The BasicsName: Mei Constance Seomoon
Nicknames: None that she knows of, she doesn’t pay attention, but maybe they’re out there?
Age: 16
Orientation: Asexual/homoromantic
Desired Rank/Job: Student
Powers: Telepathy - Mei can hear the surface thoughts of other people and can project her own thoughts out to other people, either openly so that everyone can hear them, or privately so that only those she chooses can hear. Side effects include headaches, distorted vision, and occasionally hearing things that aren't there, neither through sound or thought, which can create a great deal of confusion and a little bit of paranoia. As said before, the thoughts which she can hear are limited to what people are thinking at that very moment, therefore reading someone’s mind to view their memories or personal viewpoints would be impossible unless the person is thinking of them at that very moment.

General Appearance: Mei stands only a few inches shorter than her sister, at 5’6”, though to the thin goth girl, the difference may as well be a mile. Even standing up straight like her upbringing has taught her to day after day along with the 2-3” boots she often wears, Mei still feels darfed by her sister’s natural height and grace, the latter of which Mei thinks she has none of. This doesn’t mean she does not try, at least, though it is mostly out of habit that her idle stance is feet forward, heels together, chin up and spine stretched from her bum out the top of her head. She has excellent posture and can walk as though she’s gliding, though still feels like she’s simply clumbering around on her feet.
She keeps her black hair straight and flat with an occasional splash of color(currently it’s one streak of brown in the underlayers of her hair). With her naturally pale face and soft features, Mei has been told she resembles a delicate china doll. If only she didn’t have this obsession with wearing black and only black. To that she would say is a lie, she also had a specific assortment of lacy white scarves and silver accessories to compliment the black skirts and tights and punk-goth blouses and dresses that she casually wears. Even on special occassions where she’s supposed to ‘dress to impress’, her gown is likely to be black, if not a darkened color at least. To perpetuate this look, Mei lines her eyes with a heavy black cole liner and shadow, and shapes her eyebrows as thin as to look like they were drawn on with a fine point pencil.
Personality: Mei is the quiet girl in the corner, the wallflower that prays for no one to notice her and for nothing to happen that makes her stand out. Granted, her style of clothing keeps this from happening, but she’s found it also makes her seem less approachable and thus, keeps her from having to talk to people, especially when she’d much rather finish reading her book or listen to whatever song is up on her ipod(or sometimes she’ll pretend to be listening to her ipod to keep people from trying to talk to her). Mei has a great deal of social anxiety and therefore puts up a very strong front to keep unwanted interactions with people at a minimum. When faced with a one-on-one interaction, she is soft-spoken and very short with her responses, though can usually manage it well enough. When the circle becomes crowded with two or more people, Mei will easily freeze up and retreat into herself, barely able to form a single word, much less a whole sentence.
Because of this fail in her ability to socialize and communicate, she is somewhat thankful for her telepathic powers. Because despite not being very talkative to begin with, her thoughts are nowhere near as shy or held back. Therefore, when she really wants to say something, she may resort to communicating it telepathically. Unfortunately, these thoughts are often impulsively made and completely tactless. And potentially spiteful. Mei most often does this towards her sister, though, and people she dislikes. She can’t help having an opinion, it’s just effectively expressing it that she has trouble with, as she often can’t speak it out loud, and her thoughts lack a filter to refine them.
When around someone whose company she enjoys and whom she is comfortable being around, Mei can be quite open, with either method. She smiles more and giggles at what’s funny and is far more expressive. She can be delightfully sweet to those she likes, though incredibly venomous towards those she doesn’t. People she’s known for a long time and have grown close to fall into this category. Her sister(regretfully) does as well. Some adults may also fit into this category, though that may just be a respect ingrained into her by her parents.
Towards her family, Mei is rebellious and resentful, especially after finding out the reason for why she was adopted into the family(see history). As such, Mei has become quite rebellious against her parents. She spends their money without thought, such that her folks are forced to put her on a limited allowance. She finds other ways to get back at her parents, though. Ways that land her in situations her sister has had to bail her out of. Her sister, Fleur, is the only person in her family she gets along with in any regard, though it’s usually over shared interests and habits, such as their love for junk food. Mei gets easily irritated and impatient with her sister, as she thinks the woman has little mind of her own and is only a tool for their parents to use at their whim. However, she also worries for her sister, that she’ll always be their puppet and never gain any sort of independence. Despite their conflicts, Fleur is the person Mei considers herself closest to, even if she never admits it.
Mei has a very analytical mind and very much enjoys games based on logic and strategy, such as chess or go. It is during these games that Mei puts to practice her mental shields, to keep her own thoughts in check and to keep herself from reading her opponent unfairly. Despite being able to do so easily, Mei is not a cheater and detests that sort of practice in others as well. Other indulgences she has involved activity on the internet, posting on forums, engaging in chat rooms, and getting into flame wars on youtube. She loves the internet and says it’s a place where she can be herself and talk to people without having to worry about actually being around them. And she can ditch the conversation whenever she feels like it.Your VicesLikes:

Mei Seomoon was born as Mei Constance Arquette on October 29, 1998 to a multiracial family from a rural community just outside of the San Francisco area. Her parents, Nuriko and Olivier were very well known in the small town where they lived. They owned a bread shop off the edge of the main road that also served cakes and pastries on sundays, holidays, and other special occasions. When Mei was born, she was the light of their life and they doted on her with as much love as they could offer for the near three years until the accident. In the summer of Mei’s third year, the family of three were on a road trip to visit family friends a few towns over when Olivier lost control of the car and drove it into a ravine. Through some miracle, Mei survived the crash, but lost both her parents and was left with a large scar on the back of her neck. She was promptly placed in foster care and about a year later, was taken home by the Seomoon family.
Mei was too young to remember the transition in great detail, but she was old enough to remember that she had a family before and now she had a new one. So it was never a secret to her that she was adopted, and she was grateful for their compassion for the better part of her childhood. Mei was given an early and fine education that was just as impressive as her older sister’s, giving her skills in singing, guitar, and piano by the time she was ten, and fluency in Korean, Japanese, and Mandarin by the time she was twelve. When she was eight, Mei made it to semifinals in a national chess competition. From the time she was brought into the family, she was given instruction on proper socialite behavior, how to carry herself, and what behaviors were expected of her, especially in public and at various social engagements. In the beginning, she was praised for her accomplishments and encouraged to try again when she failed.
Unfortunately, Mei had the tendency to fall just a little bit shorter than her sister ever did, and her mother made sure she knew it at every chance. Now, Mei wasn’t a bumbling fool or clumsy idiot like her mother would have her believe. If Fleur was a 10 then Mei was a 9.5, and that just wasn’t good enough for Kwan Seomoon. The fact that the sisters bickered like a pair of hyenas day in and day out didn’t help matters either. It soon came to the point where Mei was no longer praised for when she did something right, only when she did something wrong. Even if it was only the slightest mistake, it was seen as an embarrassment, and if Mei protested, then she was instantly shushed and told to stop her incessant histrionics.
Naturally, as time went on, Mei became more and more self-conscious in social situations and would go out of her way to avoid them altogether. And, naturally, she was scolded for being antisocial as well. This was when she started her trend of wearing black and goth-styled clothing. She found that it calmed her, if just a little, and often intimidated people too much to approach her even when out at these engagements her parents insisted she attend. It was at one of these social functions, just after she turned 13, that her power manifested. Suddenly, the room full of people and voices just seemed to become louder, as if the crowd instantly doubled. She’d hear someone say something and couldn’t determine from where it came from. When she spoke up about it, she was dismissed by the people around her. When Mei brought it to her parents, she could hear their exasperated thoughts as easily as if they spoke them out loud, and not a one of them towards her was kind. In the end, Mei was dismissed from the party and told to stay in her room until further notice.
Mei did not see anyone else for two days, save for the maid who brought her meals of whom she could hear inaudible whispers from as well. When she was finally beckoned to the family room where she met with a Hammel recruiter, Mei was told about her status as a meta-human. As the recruiter explained things, Mei couldn’t help but overhear more whispers from her parent’s minds, and ones which made her curse her newfound abilities. Mei was adopted to give the family a more positive and caring image, but she’d been nothing but an embarrassment to them thus far, and now, of all things, this had to happen on top of it. She never revealed what she’d heard, but simply gave her parents a steely glare as she left with the recruiter. Mei was, at the time, glad to leave, and hoped she’d never have to come back.
Once at Hammel, however, things didn’t improve quite the way she’d hoped. Her anxiety gradually worsened as time went on and she realized that she was locked in a place that wasn’t good enough for her family, but was at a higher level than many of her peers, which left her feeling even more out of place. Having little control over her telepathy didn’t help matters as she was invited into the thoughts and opinions of everyone who had ever had them about her. Whether they be positive or negative, Mei didn’t want to hear them. She’s worked hard with her trainer over the past three years to get it under control, but her mental barriers are still lacking in many ways. While Mei had vowed to never return to her home in San Francisco, she still does at least twice a year for holidays and vacation. If she feels like it.Roleplay ExampleNope nope nope nope nope
