It was a well known fact that Rob lived to spoil Mitchell. He loved him, and though his ways of expressing that could sometimes be a little... expensive, in his mind, it was worth every cent he parted with. This was especially true around holidays, as well as Mitch’s birthday.
This year was no exception. Though he’d initially wanted to start the celebration on Friday evening, a last minute surgery added to his schedule, he hadn’t gotten out early enough to make it a reality. But his weekend was cleared, someone else was on call for emergencies, and after slyly making his way down to the car with overnight bags for both of them, he was ready for his surprise. Dinner reservations were made, a hotel room was booked, and his gifts for Mitch were wrapped and ready to go.
Now he just had to convince Mitch to get up. He’d already gone out and run Emma, tiring her out enough to keep her out of trouble for now. Coffee was made, pancakes were stacked on the kitchen counter, along with syrup and hazelnut spread. The medical side of him wanted to twitch at the sight of it, but he shooed that logic away. This was for Mitchell’s birthday weekend, and damn it, he was going to make sure he had a good time.
Slipping into their bedroom, Rob perched on the side of the bed, enjoying the view of his sleeping husband for a moment before reaching out to shake his shoulder gently. “Mitch?” Smiling, he leaned down to gently kiss his earlobe. “It’s time to get up. I’ve got a surprise for you.” He honestly felt like a little boy with a big secret that he was bursting to share. Which he was. He’d said nothing about their plans for the weekend, only that Mitch should keep his schedule clear. He was excited about the surprise, and was holding out that Mitch would like it too.
