Super-moon for Super Kids (Open to the Astronomy Club)

Zeb had always been a night owl. So it was only natural that he had learned to love the stars. At least once a night he was out walking around the grounds, his head craned back to stare into the heavens, usually with his pipe in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other. There was something about the stars that tended to put things in perspective. And it was this perspective and love of the stars that Zeb hoped to share with the students.

He tried to have some sort of event at least once a month. Sometimes mother nature didn't have anything particularly spectacular going on, so he would take them on a trip to the observatory or something similar.

But tonight he had really lucked out. A super-moon. And clear skies. Hopefully the kids would enjoy it. True, it was getting a little chilly in Vermont late September, but Zeb had made coffee and hot chocolate. Ferris had also gotten word and offered to make some space themed baked good as well. And in case it got really chilly, Zeb had dragged out some blankets from his apartment.

"Anyone need more treats?" Zeb asked the students who were gathered around. "Or a blanket? I know it's a little chilly, but trust me this will be worth it."

Naozumi had been looking forward to this even for quite some time now. He was glad he started getting involved in the astronomy club again when he did, otherwise he might have completely missed it. Despite his interest in the field, Naozumi was still terrible at paying attention to when these sort of events happened, and by the time he realized they were there, it would have already passed. There weren’t many times when they could view a super-moon, and especially not on such a perfect night.

Vermont as moving into the colder days of the year. Nao dressed accordingly for it, in an orange sleeveless hoodie over a white, long-sleeved t-shirt. He couldn’t afford to come out in shorts, so denim was the default, thought Nao still remained stubborn when it came to his footwear, wiggling his toes in the grass through his black-strapped sandals. Nao turned to Mr. Hayes, the club adviser, and shook his head. “I think I’m fine, Mr. Hayes. But thank you.”

Nao held a cup of that hot chocolate between his two hands and sipped it’s warmth in slowly. Mmm, the taste of sugar tickled his appetite, as usual, and he turned back to the adviser. “Actually…” he started with a slight blush. “Maybe I’ll have another after all…” Of the treats. He was trying to regulate himself, but it was difficult. If allowed, Naozumi would probably eat every single snack that they’d brought out by himself. He could do it too. Wasn’t that terrible? Nao reached over to take one…no, maybe two more, and started nibbling on them. Slowly.

Min was a part of a club.

He didn't expect any friends, more or less a decent acquaintance, but he just enjoyed the night. Min was too used to being a loner now, it was more of his unwanted nature.

Looking up at the sky, he enjoyed as the stars truly came out. It was rare during the modern time period, the night black was always filled with patches of dirt. It annoyed him.

The teacher began to call out to the students, 'Anyone need more treats? Or a blanket?'.

Min just continued to stare at the night sky. His teacher was a bit too far from him after all, he was atop a tree branch, alone again. It was, indeed, a relaxing sight. One that took him back many years into his past, where the country-side assured a clear sky during every night.

Hammel was fine. It was a fine institute, with a fine dormitory, with a fine community, and a horrifying sky. That was probably the only thing he did not like of this school. Something he had to endure for three years.

His branch began to creak a bit, however he gave no attention or thought towards the idea of danger. He would be fine.

Trevor was late. Well not really late but not exactly early either. He'd taken far too long digging through his things trying to find long pants, since he hadn't needed anything but shorts all through the summer. He'd found a pair of black sweats that he paired appropriately with a t-shirt showing surprised Patrick riding a cat through space. He wore an unzipped hoodie too, due to the chill of the air.

He greeted everyone with a rather excited 'hello' and grabbed a few snacks from the supply. It wasn't cold enough yet to warrant a warm drink though that would change after a while. Clearly, Trevor had been looking forward to this. He plopped himself down on the ground nearby Nao, looking over to him with a grin. "Wonder how many people think it's odd that we're willing to sit here and stare at the moon for a few hours..." he mused, letting out a bit of a laugh at his own question.

Damien could see, out the corner of his eyes, his fellow club members talking to themselves or to each other about one thing or another. It didn't matter to him, he was outside, that is all that mattered to him right now. He enjoyed the night, his usual hoodie was rolled up into a ball and placed behind his head to give him something soft to rest his head on since he was laying in the grass. His eyes weren't focusing on anything in particular, Damien was just reveling in the feeling of the night cool breeze against his arms and face.

He remembered hearing something about coffee, he had known there was coffee somewhere close but the thought of having to get up from his current position made him have to mentally think about it. He debated with himself for a few moments and the call of the coffee was stronger than the need to bask in the rays of the slowly shifting moon light. He grunted silently and stood to grab a cub of the sweet nectar, never really looking away from the moon. He took a careful sip and savored it happily.

"Help yourself Mr. Makiguchi," Zeb said, gesturing to the treats. He had wished he had thought of staring a fire and roasting s'mores as well. But he hadn't realized how chilly it would be. Maybe next event. "Wouldn't want them to go to waste," he added with a grin.

Zeb gave the young student perched in a tree a glance. "You okay up there?" he asked. He had a feeling the kid didn't want any extra attention, but still Zeb couldn't help but ask.

He grinned when Trevor approached. "They'll only think it's weird if they don't know how awesome the moon is going to be," Zeb said as he helped himself to some more coffee. "I wanted to thank you all for coming too. I've been hoping to have a club activity for a while now so I'm glad you guys could join me out here." He couldn't help but grin at the students.

"Can you guys think of anything you'd like to do as a club in the future?"
