The BasicsName:Dong-sung Kim
Nicknames: Danny
Age: 20 (August 30, 1995)
Orientation: Bisexual
Desired Rank/Job: Bartender at the Rochester Inn - works two other jobs during the day at the Bubblebeam Tea Shop and a small bookstore.
Powers: Perfect Recall/Superhuman Intelligence - Danny can remember anything he’s heard, seen, or read(since manifestation) perfectly and has all such information stored in his brain much like a computer. He also has a much higher level of intelligence and capability of understanding and learning new information very quickly. Because of the way his mind is structured, he tends to think logically and make his decisions based on logic rather than on emotion.
Side effects of his power include a stunted ability to empathize and express emotions, and tendency to seem(and sound) like a robot(or AI), speaking very directly and factually. He also requires extra time to process all the information input from the day, and does this either by ‘zoning out’ or simply taking a nap(though the former typically leads to the latter). Due to his perfect recall ability, Danny often has flashbacks as well, which surface most often during his ‘processing’ period or when he’s doing something monotonous that offers little stimulation to his senses. Getting lost in trances and flashbacks, Danny sometimes becomes confused as to ‘when’ he is, especially if he is just coming out of them. Consequently, he has a poor concept of the flow of time and an equally poor ability to manage his time. Therefore, he keeps a very strict schedule listed on his phone, with an alarm for near everything from his appointments, to his dates, to when he needs to leave for work...anything you can think of, he probably has an alarm for, just in case.

General Appearance: Danny is a short man of 20 years, standing at only 5’7”, though with his regular weight lifting, he’s packed on a decent amount of muscle in his arms and abs, weighing him in somewhere between 170 and 180lbs, depending on how healthy he’s been eating that week/month/year. His thin, monolid eyes house a near pitch black in the irises, giving him a very deep and intense stare(aka. resting bitch face) which is only exacerbated by his thick eyebrows. However, those same eyes will squint and nearly disappear when he gives the wide, tooth-filled smile that he reserves for the public, mostly customers. If it’s not an over-exaggerated smile, then it’s an obvious look of confusion as he works out what exactly is going on in front of him. When alone, he tends to be even more expressionless, though when with family or very close friends, his face relaxes into something much more gentle and less rigid, his smile becoming soft and sweet.
Danny would prefer to wear more conservative casual wear, but quickly found out in high school that that, combined with his ‘super-nerd’ persona, quickly landed him with his head in a toilet. Since the first few times, he started paying extra close attention to his appearance and how it might be perceived by others. Because having one’s head in a toilet was definitely unsanitary. These days, unless he’s in uniform for a job, Danny will wear a variety of t-shirts that don’t ‘look stupid’(that is, he got Zeke to pick them out for him), and a simple pair of jeans. He keeps his ears pierced(even with gauges!) simply because that seemed to be a popular fashion trend, wears chain necklaces, and overall tries to keep himself looking ‘cool’(whatever that is, he’s had to ask people before, mainly Zeke or his little sister). While he normally keeps his hair black, Danny isn’t against dying it if he can find purpose in it(ie. Zeke asks him to). He doesn’t understand the purpose of dressing that way outside of social acceptance, so he is thankful that when at home, he has nobody to impress and can simply wear a blank white tank, or whatever feels the most comfortable. Luckily, the gym is a place where he doesn’t have to worry about that, as it seems expected to show up in something comfortable and practical.
Personality: Danny is outwardly a generally friendly person. A little awkward, and brutally blunt, but with good intentions more often than not. He’s learned the art of putting on a nice face for social situations, something he’s inherently dumb in and would much rather avoid, though his current life situation prevents him from keeping himself in isolation, therefore Danny does the best he can to integrate and appear ‘normal’. He understands what society expects from him and that it generally makes people uncomfortable to deal with him how he is normally(as in, uptight and somewhat of a clueless robot), and therefore will choose a ‘reaction’ that typically yields a favorable response from employers, acquaintances, mentors, and strangers(mostly his customers).
His awkwardness stems from difficulty in processing abstract thought, having the tendency to dive straight into the literal and logical instead. This is an unfortunate side effect of his meta-power, specifically the superintelligence portion, which strives to always comprehend and analyze matters in the most logical way possible. He can memorize things quickly, recite pi and integrate like nobody’s business, and build a (super)computer from a pile of scraps, but he can’t for the life of him figure out what someone means when they quip a “That’s what she said” joke. Every situation he finds himself in, Danny is processing as many details as he can at once to come up with the best possible answer. Unfortunately, this also means that he tends to disregard emotions in that equation. That isn’t to say he doesn’t have them at all, but they are incredibly suppressed. And that also isn’t to say he will never consider them, he simply tends not to. It’s a matter of weighing which is more important to him, and in situations involving strangers, typically logic prevails over feelings.
In his personal relationships, there’s not much of a difference regarding his emotional expression, but he is more likely to make a decision based off them, what’s more comfortable for him, or what will make that other person happy. If confronted with this lack of logic, he will argue “[this person] is important to me, and [this thing] is important to them, therefore it’s important to me that it yields favorable to what [this person] wants.” This is evidence that Danny cares very deeply for those in his personal life - his mother, his best friend, his little sister among others - and is willing to do whatever it takes to make sure their lives run as smoothly as possible. As such, he works three jobs in order to support his family instead of going to college, where he knows he is likely to do well and create himself a ‘brighter’ future. Furthermore, this thought process of putting his loved one's wishes before any of his own can make him do things that seem incredibly out of character, such as dying his hair, or getting a piercing(or tattoo, though he's more wary of that so hasn't done it yet), or eating pizza four times a week.
Danny isn’t an idealist, nor is he a dreamer; he is a realist. He understands the difference between doing what is necessary and doing what is ‘smart’. He is also not so pathological in his ‘logic’ that he cannot discern right from wrong, or a good choice from a bad choice, and has no problem pointing out when an action doesn’t make sense to him and the reasons behind it in an effort to dissuade someone from making a ‘bad’ choice.
As said before, Danny understands that he’s a little more strange than not, and that’s why he strives to be a healthy, independent individual, at least on the outside. Therefore, he forces himself to have a social life. Once a week, in some way, he will go out with either a small group of friends or a singular person(on a date) in order to get this social experience. He’s said that if he didn’t force himself to go out, then he would only ever be working, sleeping, or sitting cooped up at home with his roommate, Zeke, and his ferret. Research tells him this is not healthy, hence why he goes to such an extreme. The same logic is applied to his sex life, though he has no intention on getting attached to anyone he dates and would rather keep all those interactions casual.Your VicesLikes:

Secret: He claims that he stayed in Pilot Ridge to work, rather than going back to NY to take care of his mother, so he could be there for his little sister, but the truth is that he just didn't want to leave Zeke behind and alone and helpless and alone and lonely and helpless. Danny tends to obsess over taking care of his best friend.Family TiesFather: Nicholas Hirukawa

Sadie Kim was best friends with Soonbok Moon(her married name) since high school. They graduated together. They went to college together. They found love together(not at the same time, of course). And then, as fate would have it, they became pregnant within three months of each other. So of course, they would raise their children together, by the sides of their husbands. Danny was born to Sadie and Nicholas Kurokawa on August 30, 1995. Danny was a cheerful boy, running around as any toddler would, and was pretty much bound at the hip with Soonbok’s little boy, Zeke Moon. They was like peas and carrots they were. And because he was older(by a whole two months!), Danny would say that it was his job to take care of the younger boy, and he often did, standing up for him against bullies, holding his hand when they crossed the street, and looking for him whenever Zeke would get lost on his way to the bus stop. While as a child Danny was aware of Zeke’s PAIS condition, it was more of a background piece of information that seemed more matter-of-fact for him than an actual issue to be concerned about. At least, until they both entered high school while at Hammel.
Danny’s manifestation wasn’t something noticed overnight. He was eleven years old and already reading above his grade level. He already did well in school. Probably the only noticeable event was when he solved his father’s sudoku puzzle at breakfast, while the man had taken a break to the restroom. By the time the recruiters showed up nearly two weeks later, Danny hadn’t really done much more than solve more sudoku puzzles before school. He accepted having to leave fairly quickly, but was sad to leave his best friend behind. Danny gave Zeke a smile and said they would definitely see each other and the Vermont wasn’t so far away. As promised, Danny came home for breaks, and while that was fine for both of them, it still wasn’t the same. Two years after Danny left for Hammel, word was sent that Zeke had manifested as well and was coming to join him. It was a happy reunion and they were even able to get the same dorm room together.
It was soon after that, however, that Danny’s father decided to leave his mother for another woman. It was a more or less clean separation, but it was also the first significant sign of the emotional side effects caused by his power. Danny accepted it fairly quickly when most children of 13 years would have responded more negatively to the sudden change. His reasoning was “it makes him happy and he’s going to be paying child support to make up for it, so it’s fine. Besides, it’s already happened and there’s nothing I can do to change it, so there’s no point in worrying.” From then on, his power’s side effects became more and more obvious, reaching to the point where Danny rarely smiled anymore. Not because he wasn’t ‘happy’, he would say, but simply because he didn’t think to, his mind being so preoccupied with other things at any given point. Besides, it was people’s actions that mattered the most, he’d say. That said, little changed regarding his behavior, especially towards Zeke whom he still took upon himself to look after as much as possible.
The second blow to him came shortly before Danny was supposed to graduated from Hammel. Danny received a notice from home that his mother wasn’t doing well. Danny returned home to assist her with her sudden condition, delaying him from graduating on time. One doctor’s visit after the other resulted in just another referral for a ‘second’ opinion. It wasn’t until they met with a person who’d worked with the disease before that they got a final diagnosis of MS, aka multiple sclerosis. From there, things only went downhill. The onset had been incredibly severe and require a lot of treatment which, consequently, required a lot of money that they just didn’t have. There was the child support, but that was for taking care of Danny and his little sister Amy(who had transferred into Hammel just that year), and would continue for each until Amy finished college and Danny turned 21. While that would be enough for Danny to cover most living expenses, it was still trumped by the expenses required to take care of his mother at the same time. Danny’s mother couldn’t work, after all, and Danny was still technically in school, so for that first year while Danny was taking his hiatus from school, and until Danny finally graduated a year late, they borrowed from friends, took out loans; they did what they could to make ends meet. Once things became a little more stable, Danny returned to Pilot Ridge to at least get his high school diploma.
Danny had reservations about returning to New York to take care of his mother, who needed nearly 24/7 care at the moment. He didn’t want to leave either his sister or Zeke behind, the older of the two being a little more helpless than the younger. Therefore he made arrangements for his mother to enter an assisted living community. The cost was ‘reasonable’ but still more than he could afford with just a high school education. College was out of the question for the moment. So Danny decided to stay in Pilot Ridge and work as much as possible, not only so he could pay for his mother’s living expenses in addition to his own, but also in the hopes of slowly saving up a fund for Amy to attend college when she finally graduated. At first, he was working four part-time jobs, but that was incredibly taxing for him, so much that he came home every day nearly exhausted and getting almost no sleep. As soon as he turned 19, though, Danny quit two of them and instead took up a job as a bartender at a semi-high class lounge, which provided him with a generous amount of tips. He’s been living this way for about a year now, cohabiting with his best friend in a reasonably priced two bedroom apartment.Roleplay Example
