Mei was risking her life for this, but it was a matter of impatience on her part. Normally, she would simply order any items she wanted from the internet, with overnight shipping if available, but today….no, she didn’t want to wait a whole day to have this particular item finally in her hot little hands.

She’d finally finished the last game she was obsessed over for the past few weeks….several times, in fact. Mei was the obsessive sort of gamer. The kind that played a game over and over to find out all the secrets, get all the items, all the achievements, and wasn’t satisfied until she’d finished with all the different endings a game had to offer. Now that she was done with that one. Mei was on a mission for what will keep her occupied next, for however long it ended up being.

Once inside the game store, Mei shook her head to and fro, looking for the wall of PS4 games. Once spotted, she headed over, her arms crossed defensively across her torso. There were too many people at the mall for her to be anything called comfortable…but getting this game right now was more important. She’d spend whatever time she needed getting over it later. Like when she got back outside and cowered against the wall of the large building, trying to catch her breath. For now….her eyes were on the MKX game that was nestled on display between two other games she had no interest in.

Mei smiled as she reached for it….then froze when her fingers touched those of someone else who had reached for it at the same time as her. Mei flinched back and spun to face the tall person, her straight black hair flying over her shoulder and hand pulled up against her chest. A normal person would have simply said “I’m sorry” at this point and moved on. Mei, however, was frozen. And silent. With her lips parted slightly as her eyes remained fixed on the person in front of her. She shivered slightly in her usual goth-dark attire.

A few days after purchasing a new playstation four (hell if he brought the old one, let the next occupier of that room have some fun with it) he figured it was time for some new games, and while the system had every possible game released for it on line for purchase and digital download, he preferred going to the store and grabbing a physical copy, in this case an even better option as the game he wanted came with a few extra goodies if you had the CD version. Like extra characters that otherwise would have to be bought and only came with pre-orders.. but there were always the people who pre ordered a game and never came to pick them up. Possibly due to the online function the playstation now held. But Luke was one of those who didn't have the patience to let the game download in the background, he had seen too much gameplay of it (with combos shown and fingers shown) to still be able to wait.

So imagine his smile when he saw the game in its pre order glory on one of the shells in a random store he had never gone to before. Almost running over to twist his fingers around it and throw a wad of cash in the face of the person behind the register to be able to play it as soon as possible, he chose to ignore every other game in the store and all other cool gadgets, and other people.

Until his hand touched the hand of another as he reached for Mortal Kombat X. The one it belonged to turned around and watched Lucas, and while he did offer a small ''Mi scusi.'' There was none in return. All there was was a girl in black clothing with equally black hair just looking at him as she quickly withdrew her hand, still not saying a word.

''Diggin' th' look yer rockin'.'' He hesitated as he was kinda forced to keep staring at the girl and just found the easiest thing to comment on.

Mei had overlooked the possibility that someone else might want this game as well, at the same time as her. Had she been scanning the thoughts of others(she often tried not to), then she might have heard the key words that would have clued her in to someone else vying for the same game she was in the store.

It was her own carelessness that led to this…encounter, as it were. She’d inadvertently touched someone else, someone she didn’t know. She’d garnered their attention, when she would rather be ignored. She’d been spoken to, and now was expected to speak to them back, no doubt. Just the simple action of them touching and her pulling back was enough to raise her heart rate, but added to it her inability to respond, that she just was standing there and staring like an idiot, was even more embarrassing, and quickly served to flush her pallid face a light shade of pink.

She frowned slightly at the compliment. No…no, he was not supposed to ‘dig’ her look, it was supposed to keep people away. It was meant to make people think there was something wrong with her so that they’d steer clear.

Her eyes slid down to the game that was still on the shelf. She could just take it and run to the register, couldn’t she? Get out of there as quickly as possible. She didn’t want to talk to anyone. She didn’t want excuses, or explanations, or conversation. Mei took a slow breath….then quickly reached for the game again, intending to nab it and turn quickly on her heels to the front of the store.

The game in question was something Luke had wanted for a long while, and now his path to getting it had been obstructed by a girl. Not just any girl, but a hot one at that. Her clothing scored points with him, her hair did (which was weird because he was into red hair) en even the fact she didn't quite respond to him did where it would usually bug the shit out of him. The muscle movements by this one shortly following his own words made her look all the more cute as he noticed that she was thinking about stuff and eying the game. Considering how quiet she was and how she responded to his being there and how she failed to respond to what he said he could say with certainty that she was going to try and make a run for it.

Which would be a wise move, to be honest. Luke had wanted the game since it was spoken about in hush tones, and now it was finally here. Lord knew he would do the same as this girl was, though with a bit more words.

He realized waiting for her to talk was pretty futile as her motions spoke almost everything Lucas needed to know. Aside from her name, bust and other things. ''Gonna risk a run then?'' He supposed, ''Not a bad idea.. but what if the clerk ends up talkin' to ya? Or someone else wantin' that game?'' She would have to be okay with being extremely rude if that was the case.

''What if.. an' bare with me 'ere.'' He began, looking at hter in the hopes she would at least listen. ''I take it ya don't like talkin' ta people.'' A small smile crept up on his face. ''So what if I buy that game fer me mute sister?''

Being extremely rude was quite honestly nothing to Mei. Most people found her to be exactly that for not speaking quite as eloquently and freely as her sister did. Her mother especially, though that woman was of the opinion that if she couldn’t do it, then she may as well not speak at all. It was little wonder that Mei developed such a lacking in her communication skills.

Though in this instance….Mei didn’t care. Not in any sense of the word. She was a stubborn little rose, and when she set her mind to something, there was little anyone could do to change it. Mei narrowed her eyes at the man who seemed to be patronizing her with every word that came slithering out of his mouth. The scenarios he brought up…. ”So?” she thought, though wasn’t aware of whether it was done out loud or not.

It was his comment, however, that flared her up in a wave of spite. ‘Mute sister’? Just who did this slob think he was, to be talking to a woman of her station with such obscene familiarity? Adopted or not, an ‘embarrassment’ or not, Mei Constance Seomoon was still the youngest daughter of the head of directors to a high profile business conglomerate! Regardless if he knew or not, this boy ought to know his place.

Mei lowered her hands and raised her chin to match her already perfect posture, and sent the boy a sharp glare of pretentiousness. “Do not speak to me with such vulgarity,” she asserted with a hiss. “You presumptuous piece of swine.” Mei took a step forward and reached for the game.

It was funny the way she finally talked, her posture straightening a bit to empower her own words as she finally spoke after hearing what Luke had to say. The fact she said something came as a relief though as the Texan was beginning to think he had to do everything by himself, but then when the words shot out he knew there were two people instead of one. And what she said though.. it brought a smirk upon the face of the boy.

As she spoke though Lucas imitated her stance, straightening himself quite a bit and mentally twisting his accent to something more.. suiting of her words. Why not go for something medieval or something? He just hoped the girl was bright enough to know what the speech patterns were like back in those days. Time to act his ass off, he figured.

He shook his head at her words and instantly noticed she went for the game again. ''I had no intention of upsetting a lady like the one standing before me!'' He no doubt caught the attention of the other people in the store but he failed to care. He was called swine, and swines were loud, so why not? Lucas spoke like a king, loud and well articulated. And luckily for the girl in front of him it was quite the neat king as well.

His voice sounded calm and collected, really only his volume raised to shut her up and hopefully stopping her from moving. It very well should have, it stopped nearly everyone else there. ''Please pardon me for such.. vulgar action. But pray, what does a lady like you seek in the corners of this here gameshoppe?''

He paused as he waited for an answer to a question he kind of already could dream the answer to but he couldn't help but wonder if she would humor him.

Mei knew what he was doing. Her telepathy didn’t lie, and while she normally didn’t like delving into the minds of other people, it was hard to resist when she was worked up like this. So, of course she knew what he was doing. And while it was working…Mei didn’t want to give him the satisfaction.

She stared at him with a bored, unimpressed expression. Mei narrowed her eyes, a glint of disdain piercing through them. “You are a fool,” she said slowly. “And the only one you make mockery of here is yourself.” Mei continued forward and grabbed the game, seeing as he hadn’t physically stopped her, and didn’t seem like he would. She held it in her hot little hands and smiled before granting him another glance. “Shame on you for treating any woman this way,” she spat, her voice drenched in spite. “I hope you go to hell.” Mei wasn’t exactly religious, but it sure felt good to say. She turned away from the boy and headed up to the front counter to make her purchase, the game held close to her chest.

She really needed to get out of there. But her pride wouldn’t allow her to break down until she was well out of the eyes of anyone who could witness it.

Lucas laughed, it had been a long while since any girl had treated him this way. And honestly, it was kinda fun. Slowly but surely she was breaking down, or so Luke hoped, as she wasn't really showing any sign of simmering down at all. But at least she was talking to him whereas she just froze up and stared at him before. But this was good, someone being able to fire things like this at him only meant that it was that much easier to go off against them in turn. But for this one.. the Texan wouldn't start yelling, no, he would remain calm and reply with a grin just to make her tantrum last that much longer.

He nodded at the statement of being a fool. ''I know I am a fool. An' a dick, an' an asshole, an' prob'bly a bit more'n that but I don't wanna get into that right now.'' He then leaned in to the girl. ''Ya haven't earned it yet.''

The look on her face made him pause a bit though, but not in confusion as much as joy. He was really getting on her nerves, something he very nearly forgot the feeling to. And now that he had a taste he wouldn't stop trying to get under her skin instead of in her pants. ''I always make a mockery of meself, hun. It's what makes me tick.'' And not having other people make a mockery of him was a good thing too.

When the girl turned away he felt that last comment hit him as something some people could see as the end to a situation. She had the game after all and was walking away from him, and were she anyone else he would have stopped her, but he figured he would actually try and stop tormenting this poor little soul. But not before shooting off one last comment.

“You’re also sad,” she said when he leaned in. “And pathetic, to think any of that is worth being proud of.” It was all the formal training her harpy of a mother gave her that gave Mei the composure she needed to continue the conversation. Yes, he was wearing her down, and she thought him a cretin for taking pleasure in trying to make a girl cry. Because that’s where her anxiety was taking her very quickly. Things she had to tell herself were that she had to stay strong, she wasn’t allowed to stop, if she stopped, then she lost, all so she could get out of there in the first place.

Mei needed to get away. Now. But there was no choice but to maintain, or else she make an even greater embarrassment of herself. People would stare at her and wonder what her problem was. People would stare at her and think of all the horrible things they didn’t think she could hear. She’d turn herself into nothing but an inconvenience, especially if it turned into full-blown panic attack.

She had turned and started heading towards the front when they shared their final exchange. Mei had the game. She didn’t need to stick around if she didn’t have to. “Along with you and anyone you’ve ever tainted with those hands of yours,” she replied. The moment she left the store with her game in hand, Mei would find an empty corridor to crouch in and catch her breath.

He didn't know what her problem was, but it was fun! And he was kinda proven wrong in the process because she did what she had to do to get the game which only slightly threw off what the Texan was thinking. Maybe it was just that he had been agitating her to the point of her not caring though, in which case this whole ordeal would be his good deed for the day. And with those words she was throwing at him he wouldn't be extremely surprised if that did turn out to be the case.

Lucas chuckled mentally and watched her leave the store. Should he go after her, if only to apologize for something he didn't do? (technically he did do something, but it was just too much fun to ignore) Of course he should go after her seeing as the door she just went through was the only way out of the store and- wait, he could still get the game, couldn't he? Surely that wasn't the only copy left, was it? Not that he had checked anyway, but still. Such a game with that much built up hype, a store- any store would be crazy not to stock up on it.

And he quickly saw that there were other copies of it, and also the steel case version! With the extra DLC and the free characters and..

He grabbed the game and went over to the register, paying for it and then taking his leave from the store, leaving in the same direction the girl before him had done.

''Have fun wit' th' game, doll.'' He said as he passed her, shooting a wink in her direction.
