Not true empathy, since Gene could barely even dream about what kind of life Kodi had lived up until now, but definitely sympathy. Pity. Maybe something closer to compassion? Gene wouldn’t say that he wanted his family to meet the dentokinetic…but he had no reason to think that they wouldn’t welcome him and be kind to him and provide for him if Gene asked them to. It was his grandmother who taught him that they had more than enough fortune to share with those who needed it. Why wouldn’t he for Kodi who was…..well, Gene didn’t know exactly who Kodi was to him, but he was someone in his life at this point, and someone Gene had grown accustomed to being around in the short time they’ve known each other. Kodi’s absence would be…uncomfortable….probably.
Gene doubted he would find anyone else in his so-called ‘circle’ who would be this….Gene didn’t know what to call it other than aggravating. Though it wasn’t exactly in a negative way. Maybe. “Fine, assface,” he agreed with a small smirk. Gene didn’t intend on losing. Though he wasn’t half as clever as Kodi was when it came to these sorts of things, so he was definitely going to have to consult the internet.
The fort made of blankets and pillows was one such example of Kodi’s cleverness that towered over Gene. He never would have thought of doing this himself, and probably only would have done it on a small scale if he had. “An architect? Maybe,” he said, eyeballing the design of the structure. “You really do have a lot more going for you than I initially thought,” Gene said. “You’re smart, you’re great at acting and reading, and then this….I bet you could do whatever you wanted when you grow up!” Because Kodi clearly wasn’t a grown up…yet. Once inside, Gene continued to look at the place in wonder, twisting his head up to see the light reflecting off the sheets. “Okay, then. Where’s the throne?” he asked. Gene deserved a throne if he was going to be the king(queen) of this palace. At the compliment…Gene shied away slightly, his aura suddenly shrinking down in embarrassment. “Does it…?” he asked unsurely. Gene still didn’t think his aura glow was anything but a nuisance. A blush reached his cheeks and he dipped his head, suddenly feeling even more shy. “Uh…no….I don’t need one after all…” Not one like that…probably.
