Panda Cupcakes aka Wow, I'm awkward as hell (Xun)

Since the night Xun had shown up at his bedroom door and fallen asleep beside him things had... become very comfortable between the two of them. It was almost a nightly routine for one or the other to go to their roommate's room (though kissing had definitely become a staple for them) and fall asleep cuddled against each other. It was a wonder how any of their roommates had yet to suspect anything, or rather bring up any suspicions they may have had.

Perhaps it was only natural considering the steady state that they had fallen into that things would... escalate. He was still rather embarrassed and flustered despite the seemingly inevitable situation that had occurred between them only a few days ago. And as was typical for Devyn when he wasn't sure how to handle new or unfamiliar developments he felt an incredible urge to apologize, for exactly what he wasn't sure, but just /something/.

He'd enlisted the help of Bunny, and without clueing her into much had requested she make some of the treats that he and Xun had fought over only a month ago. This time with a panda theme, that went well with the various panda related items he'd given to his roommate in the past. It had been uncontrollable on his part, any time he saw the odd panda knick knacks in a store he was reminded of Xun and couldn't help but buy them. Devyn still had a few in the drawers of his desk he hadn't found the nerve to give to him yet in case he got weirded out by the constant small gifts.

Instead of a full box, he had a small one with only four delicious looking cupcakes inside. It had taken a lot of self-control to not sample the desserts and he knocked quickly at his friend's door before he was tempted further.

"H-hey..." he greeted nervously when the teen's door swung open, "I brought... cupcakes for you..." Devyn wasn't entirely sure what he was apologizing for, probably for what had happened a few nights ago despite both of them thoroughly enjoying themselves. Things had even managed to not be incredibly awkward between them... he just felt that the older boy deserved the treats.

Since the night that Xun had first dared to go to Devyn’s room to stay over, and every night since, he found that he got a much better, more restful, less uneasy sleep than he’d ever gotten alone in his room. They still slept with the night light beside the bed just because Xun wasn’t quite brave enough to go without yet, but he thought that maybe, someday, he might actually be able to do it as long as he was cuddled up against the younger boy’s broad, firm chest. Even though Dev was smaller than him, Xun always took the opportunity to curl up against the boy and take comfort in his warmth and strength.

Of course, they didn’t always just sleep, and those nights were even better to the Chinese boy, even if they actually did result in him getting less rest if only because their activities kept them up later. He never went over expecting those things to happen (well, besides kissing, because they both seemed pretty obsessed with that), but he was never disappointed when it did. Especially when it finally led to… that happening. Whereas before they felt like they were mostly messing around and enjoying themselves, that had been an entirely new experience altogether that had left Xun sore in more places than one. Even though he’d found it hard to walk the next day, it had been such an amazing experience that it was well worth the price, and he… couldn’t wait to do it again. Whatever ‘it’ really was.

He saw absolutely nothing that Devyn needed to apologize for. Not the soreness, not anything. The younger boy had made Xun feel so good that it was hard for Xun to believe that he didn’t owe Dev something. But unlike the other boy, he was not as good about going out and getting things to give to people (besides food, at least, which he now gladly shared with Devyn all the time), so it was with a surprised blink that he popped off his bed and opened the door to find the shorter boy with a box of something in his hands.

Devyn had already gotten him so many sweet things, Xun had trouble feeling like he deserved them. And now, seeing the box, he assumed that it was another panda-related gift that the kind-hearted boy had found for him. “Hi,” he repeated softly with a shy smile. “Cupcakes?” he repeated in interest. If he’d had dog ears, they would have perked up excitedly. Xun stepped aside and gestured for Dev to come in, shutting the door with a slight click behind him. “You are too sweet,” he mumbled with a faint blush, leaning down to steal a quick peck from the younger one’s lips. “I hardly ever get you anything…” Xun plopped down on the side of his bed and waited for Devyn to join him, feeling slightly less awkward about nuzzling against the side of his head now that they’d done… things. “You are at least going to eat some too, right?” His pale eyes lifted to meet Dev’s, although he should know by now that that was a silly question to ask.

There had been plenty of school days where he had arrived to class feeling sleepy, but he'd never regretted or felt guilty about staying up late with his roommate. Already the two of them were incredibly attached to each other and he wasn't so sure they even had it in them anymore to sleep separately. Devyn even studied in the older boy's room at times, rather than alone in his room, he took as many opportunities as possible to simply be near him.

Though, he hoped that didn't reflect itself in his grades considering they usually got a little distracted when they were together and somehow always ended up lazily kissing each other until their attentions were finally taken away from each other.

Devyn wasn't entirely sure what he felt he needed to apologize for either, maybe for the difficulties Xun had experienced the following day, or maybe it wasn't even meant as an apology at all. He just simply felt that he should do something for him, and it was obvious that they both had an extreme fondness for cupcakes. And Devyn was definitely abusing the knowledge of Xun's favorite animal. He might have slipped up and called him by a nickname containing both the word panda and cub, but Xun hadn't seemed to mind despite his embarrassment that it had slipped out.

One might think they were at a stage where knocking had become unnecessary, but they were both very overly polite people and still maintained knocking when they showed up at each other's door. Though it was usually very obvious who was on the other side even before they opened the door.

"Yeah," he answered sheepishly, entering the room when he was gestured in, "I thought you kind of... deserved them." Devyn leaned up a little to meet the kiss halfway, he'd gotten accustomed to the height difference between them and was able to more easily compensate for it. "No!" he protested with a shake of his head and sat down beside him, "You don't have to get me anything...." Honestly he was a little embarrassed about how often he purchased the things that reminded him of the other teen. "I only get them because they make me think of you...." Which ended up being even more embarrassing to say out loud.

Devyn relaxed as Xun nuzzled against him, leaning comfortably against him. A smile pulled at his lips and he chuckled a bit at the question, moving to press a small kiss to his cheek. "They're for you, but if you want to share I'm not gonna complain." Which he was sure Xun knew by now, he didn't typically turn down food, unless it fell under his anti-yellow distastes. "... They're panda themed.... That's probably getting old by now, huh?" He chuckled sheepishly, hoping that Xun hadn't gotten totally tired of all the panda stuff by now.

The only thing about their set-up that Xun really regretted was that they hadn’t started it sooner. There were a couple of times when he’d tried to sleep on his own, just to see how it felt or worried that Devyn would be annoyed if he came over yet again, but he always managed to get over to his roommate’s place anyway so he could cuddle up to the broad-shouldered boy and feel comforted. He’d become spoiled that way. And it did seem like their time spent together in the day was increasing as well… Which he would not complain about at all.

He was starting to feel a little guilty himself about all that Dev was doing to and giving him. Xun was planning on doing something in return eventually, he just… Didn’t know what. The pain he’d felt the day after their first “real” time had been nothing compared to how good it had felt, or how good Dev made him feel in general (physically and emotionally), so he thought allowing that sort of position was a small price to pay for everything else. As for that nickname… Xun had grown rather fond of it, even if he was the taller and older of the two.

He always grew a little giddy when there was a knock at his door, since the majority of the time it was Devyn (sometimes Nao, but he knocked less frequently). So he was already smiling when Dev came in, eager for whatever they were going to do. Especially if it involved food! “Deserved them? Me? For what?” he questioned, genuinely uncertain. “But you already do so much…” Xun’s eyes grew soft as he gazed at the younger boy, feeling an odd tickle in his chest that he’d started to notice the more they spent time together. “I want to do something for you someday too,” he promised, and then blushed profusely as Devyn spoke about being reminded of him whenever he saw pandas. “Really?” he replied with a stupid smile. “That… makes me really happy.” Xun leaned in and gave him another small, sweet kiss, just for that.

He eagerly waited for Devyn to open the box so he could get a glimpse of what he had waiting for him. “Of course I will share,” he said earnestly. “You are the one that went out of your way to get them.” His eyes widened in delight as he was told the theme. “No! Not at all!” he insisted. “I love pandas…” The collection that Dev was helping him start only heightened that love. When he did finally get to peek at the treats, Xun would squee quietly and eagerly take one out of the box, waiting for Dev to get his own before peeling down the wrapper and taking a bite. “Wo de tian na…” he moaned. “They taste as amazing as they look….” He pressed his face against Devyn’s cheek again and rubbed against him affectionately. “Thank you…”

Devyn would be inclined to agree that while it would have been nice to have been doing this all along...but he knew even if either of them had said something or tried to initiate it, he wouldn't have been nearly as comfortable with the idea. Even now he still had his moments where he freaked out over the situation, but he felt better simply because of how little time he spent with his parents and how much he spent around people he knew didn't care.

There was always a lingering sense of paranoia about them finding out, but he was getting pretty good at just ignoring that particular worry so long as it was all just between the two of them. So, for now, he was happy, and certainly never got tired of opening the door to see Xun there or walking across to his roommate's room and curling up beside him on his bed. 

They weren't dating, it didn't seem either of them were really wanting to put a label on what was going on between them, and Devyn was pretty sure he would feel absolutely terrible about asking Xun to stay quiet about everything if they had been dating. Just enjoying it and being happy with each other was enough for him at the moment, he was just glad for any second he got to spend with the older boy.

Which was why he did so much, even though it never felt like it was enough to him, he just felt like it was the best way to show how happy or appreciative of the time they spent together. He was sure he had to be interfering with time Xun usually spent on his own, and he was encouraging terrible eating habits with all the cupcakes and sweets he brought for them (which he definitely needed to cut back on unless he wanted to start working out twice as much).

Devyn shrugged at the question, smiling a bit to himself as a hundred different reason flashed through his mind, but he settled on the simplest, "Because I like hanging out with you, and I'm probably bugging you to death showing up all the time like this. Plus... you didn't seem too well off a few days ago..." More like the teen had laid in bed most of the day.

"Not enough honestly," he chuckled, and spoke what he believed to be true, "I'd do more if I could, but I'm running out of ideas and I'm terrible at figuring out gifts." As far as tickles in chests went, Devyn felt them too, especially when Xun's eyes went all soft and warm like that, or when he smiled, or... just whenever the boy breathed he felt like his heart would leap into his throat. "You don't have to," he didn't want him to feel like he did these things because he expected something from him, he just did them... It was an impulse he hadn't managed to reign in.

Devyn smiled at the kiss, honestly they never went very long without locking lips at least once (though it always grew to more than once if they spent more that twenty minutes together). "Yeah, well," he looked away in embarrassment, brushing a hand over his nose to hide his goofy smile, "Makes us even then." He held the box in his lap as they sat on the bed, using his thumbs to flip the top open and reveal the decorated treats inside. "Yeah," he laughed at his friend's reasoning, "but I got them for you. And good, I'm not sure I'm gonna stop finding panda things for a while." He'd probably end up duplicating gifts at some point. He ket Xun eat first, biting his lip to hold back an affectionate chuckle at the taller teen's reaction, "Yeah?" He took his own bite, reacting similarly with a slight hum of approval, eyes closing briefly but opening back up once he felt Xun press up against his face. He tilted his head slightly and pressed a kiss to his lips, ignoring the slight tickle of the crumbs that had hung there, "You're welcome. I'm glad you like them... I feel bad that I don't know what else to get you other than panda things and cupcakes."

Xun’s parents were completely unaware of his… romantic endeavors. For a long time, the Chinese boy had thought that he wasn’t really interested in relationships at all, but that had changed the time that Nao had come back from a long vacation looking a lot older and taller and had made Xun’s heart sputter in a way he’d never experienced before. Since then, he’d been more open to seeing people in a different way, and Devyn’s spontaneous kiss that had started all of this had made Xun very attached to his roommate from that moment on. He didn’t know what to call their relationship, or even what his own preferences really were, he just knew that he liked the boy a lot and was happier whenever he was around.

And he was perfectly happy with that. Xun didn’t know the first thing about having a boyfriend, after all. Why make this complicated?

The only slightly complicated thing, he felt, was all the gifts he was being given. Xun really didn’t think Dev should be spending so much money on him, and told him so, but loved all the gifts regardless. And he really did need to cut back on the sweets soon – CMAT was happening in about a month and a half, after all, and he needed to be in peak condition for that competition.

Xun shook his head rapidly in disagreement to Dev’s words. “You never bother me,” he promised. “The only times that I need to concentrate alone are when I practice, and you have not interrupted that time.” He was usually in one of the training rooms when he was doing that anyway. He felt his cheeks grow warm at the mention of what happened a few days ago, and he let out a small, awkward laugh as he averted his eyes to the side. “I-I was just a little sore…” he insisted. “I am fine now…”

He couldn’t believe that Dev didn’t feel like he was doing enough. “No, please, it is alright,” he assured his friend(?) firmly. “I really do not need more things, I feel bad for you spending your money on me.” Especially when Xun didn’t have a lot to give in return. “I do want to for you, though,” he insisted. “Do, ah…. Do you have a favorite animal too…?” Maybe that would make it easier for Xun to find stuff for the younger boy. At least it would give him something to work with besides just getting Devyn food.

But speaking of food…. Xun figured it would be alright if he let loose on his diet for just one more day. Just for Dev’s sake. “I can not eat all of them,” he insisted, wanting Dev to have at least half of them. “And I’d feel bad if I was just eating in front of you.” Xun kept nibbling on the treat, picking off a piece of what looked like Oreo cookie and popping it into his mouth. Mmmmm…. “Bunny should start a cupcake business,” he determined. It was hard for him to believe she made all these desserts for people for free. The Chinese boy smiled into the kiss as Devyn tilted his face, darting his tongue against the younger boy’s lips to get a taste of the sweet treat directly off of him. “Do not feel bad,” he murmured as they parted. “I really like them. Although… I should probably stop eating so many cupcakes for a while. I have a big competition next month in California, and I try to stick to a strict diet for several weeks before it happens…” Even as he said this, though, he took another greedy bite of the pastry in his hand. “I like sushi,” he offered as a hint.
