Jared will manifest in June of 2016 with the power of Glitter Manifestation. He will be able to produce glitter from his fingers, either by wiping them on a particular surface to glaze it with glitter, or shoot streams of it from his index. Shooting streams of glitter will typically cause dizziness and aches in his fingers, while there are limited effects for simple brushing it on, unless done in excess. Eventually, he will be able to control what color the glitter comes out as. He cannot make it disappear again, so yes, it will get everywhere.

General Appearance: Jared is a stocky sort of guy. Though for a kid just barely in high school, Jared has some pounds put on him, and all of it in muscle, as he is incredibly active in sports(football primarily) and weight lifting, giving him a bit of thickness in his arms, shoulders, and neck. While currently a bit on the short side(5’7), he still has quite a bit of room to grow as he passes through his teens.

His face his youthful and very expressive, his eyes often giving away every emotion that passes through him. Jared couldn’t tell a lie to save his life as it would show obviously on his face in the form of a strained smile and worried eyebrows. Though when he’s happy and having fun, he holds nothing back in his smiles and laughs, grinning wide and bright while his eyes sparkle in childlike innocence. If asked, Jared would say his lips were his most prominent feature, as they are graced with a natural rouge shade that have often gotten him accused of wearing an enhancing lip-color.

Jared’s style of dress is very hip-hop inspired. He wears oversized shirts, both because he likes the look, and because his mother doesn’t want to bother buying him a new wardrobe every couple months during his time of rapid growth. He likes blue, black, and white shades, and has an affinity for stripe patterns. Jared can usually be found wearing a backwards baseball cap, as he often has trouble finding a hairstyle that suits his uncooperative dark brown hair.

Personality: Jared is a guy who likes to be in charge and in control, not to mention the best. He hold himself to incredibly high standards. While that’s for his own sake as well, it’s primarily he’s always been expected to and pushed into excelling at the things he does, both in school and in football. He’s a lot more competent than what is expected of a stereotypical jock, and Jared is the sort who likes to boast about it. Not for things like cooking and cleaning, because who the hell cares about that? But for his ability to sprint, and tackle, and manage a C/B average despite always moving around every 6-ish months. He says that if they actually stayed in one place for more than a season, then he’d achieve a perfect line of grades.

Due to him being raised by a single mother who was often busy with her political activist activities, Jared had to learn how to do a lot of things for himself. It’s not that she fell short as a mother or neglected him, but it was always just commonplace for him to do his part for the household. Jared’s ‘father figure(s)’ were from the men Joyce knew in the NRA, who would take him out to teach him ‘manly’ things like hunting and gutting fish, how to change the oil on a car, and how to fix a busted pipe under the sink among other things. At home, when she whenever she could, Jared’s mother would baby him to death a million motherly things, from always making sure he was enrolled in the local school, to raising a fit when he was treated unfairly by the teachers, to baking him and his team cookies. Jared loves his mother, and all that she’s done for him, but he easily gets exasperated by her intensity sometimes.

His vices are in football and basketball, and he always played on the team of whatever school he went to, or whatever peewee league was available in the community. He’s an active fellow and can’t stand standing still for too long before needing to get up expend his energy in some way. He’ll fidget and make jokes in class, rough house with his friends, and just overall act very silly, drawing as much attention to himself as he can. Sometimes he can go a little too far in his physical playing, though, and will end up hurting himself or someone else if he does. He can go too far in his joking as well. Jared has the bad habit of putting down other people and pointing out their flaws or things they may be sensitive about in a scathing, yet joking manner. Those with a meek demeanor who won’t speak up for themselves are the most susceptible. Some kids just make it too easy! Jared doesn’t see it as bullying, however, and thinks that those who react so sensitively to a few jokes just have no sense of humor. They take things too seriously!

Jared can be a bit of a spaz when he’s worked up, often giving in to irrational thoughts and paranoia(mostly when it comes to meta-human stuff). He’s a sensitive boy with a wide range of emotions, and who often (over)reacts to things with his whole body. He is prone to discouragement and feelings of inadequacy, though he tries to cover up these negative emotions with jokes and silliness. Because of his mom’s acute anti-meta position, Jared has developed a very strong fear of meta-humans, having believed all of the horror stories that his mom has told him over the years.

Secret: He has some pretty bad body image issues, on account of pressure from his football coaches from the public schools, and his mother. He’s resorted to binging and purging before to keep himself ‘healthy’, especially after high calorie meals or when accepting sweets from people(he can’t exactly be rude and refuse, right?)

History

Jared’s story starts out tragic. He was the unwanted child of a prostitute who got knocked up on the job, and was promptly given up for adoption right after he was born. That is, he was left in the baby drop box at a hospital. He was later adopted by Joyce Glasscock and given the name of Jared Dylan.

Jared grew up not unlike most kids. He went to school and made friends, and whined about having to do his homework. The only thing unusual was that these things would often change every six month to a year. The longest he and his mom stayed in one place was two years in Houston, Texas, just right before they moved to Pilot Ridge. The reasons for these moves was in his mom Joyce’s political activist lifestyle. Due to a bad experience in her youth, she grew extremely conservative and enormously anti-meta, such that she sees it as her personal mission to protest their existence and push towards a meta-human registry.

For a long time, Jared didn’t think there was anything wrong with this. This was just how they lived, and it was perfectly normal. When he was of elementary school age, he would often help her in her ambitions, making posters and flyers for the protests and rallies she would organize. It wasn’t until he started getting older(around early middle school) that he would get teased for his mom’s eccentric attitudes(in addition to the fact that he was so obviously adopted, a fact that Joyce never hid from him). Jared would react poorly to anyone speaking badly about his mom, because he loved her obviously, but the more and more it went on, the more and more he would become embarrassed by her antics, to the point where he would often wander off when she started and do his own thing until she was came looking for him. Often times, he could be found at the closest arcade or pizza place(which he would get scolded for being at).

Joyce wasn’t neglectful, but she did get carried away sometimes. She always made sure he was financially supported(she had a trust fund and an oil pension check giving them income), had plenty of food and snacks, and made sure to register him immediately in school once they found a place to settle. She encouraged him to keep up with his studies even between moves, so he wouldn’t get left behind. But a boy can’t be healthy with only doing schoolwork, so she enrolled him in the local youth sports teams as well. It would, at least, give him something to do after school while she was off doing who knows what, though she always made sure to attend his games and give the teams plenty of snacks and lemonade.

It was because of this that Jared found a passion in sports activities, primarily football, though he didn’t do too badly in basketball either. It was all casual up until he got into middle school, where the teams started to get slightly more competitive and training much more intense. It wasn’t until he finally hit his first year in high school that football pretty much became his whole life, always striving to do better at the urgings of his mom and his coach, who always seemed disappointed in him when he fell just a little bit short of his other teammates..

Jared was thankful when the season ended, but knew he couldn’t allow himself to slack off while he waited for it to start up again in the fall. Fortunately(or unfortunately?), it was during the late winter of 2016 that Joyce decided it was high time to move again, as something in the distance called to her. Something that demanded her attention! Jared didn’t know what it was, and quite honestly didn’t care. All he knew was that they were heading to some backwater town in the middle of Vermont called Pilot Ridge, where he was going ot have to get used to yet another school and community. Oh, well. He was used to it, so it was no biggie. Since it was still off season, Jared could relax a little while he adjusted to his new environment. But not too much. Football tryouts for the fall were just right around the corner, after all.
