What is your plotting philosophy?
I prefer to set up starters rather than lay out plots, as characters can be unpredictable. Relating some hopes for the future is fine, in the interest of giving posts some direction. But plotting in a very specific fashion is too much structure for my taste.
What types of plots are you interested in playing?
Funny scenarios. Intellectual scenarios. Casual social situations. Friendships. Parties. Performances/lectures/seminars/etc.. Outdoor activities (biking, swimming, hiking). Meeting in residential areas. Meeting in shops/markets. Meeting in cafes, restaurants or bars. Contact through the internet. Haters. Scenarios in which my character mentors another. Probably more?
What types of plots are you not interested in playing?
Excessive grittiness, which includes a focus on hard drug use, abusive scenarios, poorly-maintained businesses, etc.. 'Troubled' characters who are intended to remain on that path regardless of others' influence. Meeting in club settings. Combat heavy plots.
How often can you reply to any given thread?
I can all but guarantee a reply within a week. Replies more commonly come anywhere from immediate - 48 hours, but sometimes I suffer various distractions that prevent me from replying as fast as I'd like.
What is the longest you're willing to wait for a reply to a thread?
Two weeks, unless warned of a longer wait. Ideally they'd come with 48 hours or so, though.
Are you open to RPing over instant messengers? If so, what's the best way to contact you and what times are you generally available?
Yes. I mostly use Skype these days; my name's on my profile. Lately I tend to be available between 11 AM - 2 AM ET, since I don't have anything expected of me at the moment. I'm also on a couple of chat RP sites and will provide character names upon request.
Are you open to post volleying?
Yes. If you see me active in the c-box, mention it there. Otherwise, Skype's probably the best idea!
Anything else?
I'm super excited to receive IMs or board PMs expressing interest in playing! I don't ignore people, so assume that I'm AFK or otherwise oblivious if I don't reply promptly.
PLAYER LIMITS
What are you limits regarding powerplay/godmoding?
It depends on the character/s involved and what's being done. If one character's speaking a lot and is unlikely to leave room for real responses, assuming a nod or other acknowledgment is OK to keep the scene going, within reason. Tommy here's the only guy I got so far, and his life has not prepared him for violent conflict. So there's a lot a larger or better-powered character could do to him without him having much of a say in it. Feel free to snatch things from him, throw him around, dominate him in arm wrestling, whatever. As long as the only assumption required is that your character's able to do something relatively unimpeded and he's not suffering serious injury, it's probably fine. Don't assume an entire series of actions, though! Basically, if in doubt, ask. I don't mind.
What are your limits in regards to romantic situations?
Relationships should happen organically. With Thomas, it's likely that your character will have to make the first move, unless there's a lengthy friendship plot beforehand. Relationships may happen with any gender, but he's more inclined to pick up signals from women than men and, most likely, will only pursue women himself. I don't intend on focusing on romance on this board, but am not opposed to it, as long as I have other plots going.
What are your limits in regards to sex (within the TOS)?
Honestly, I come from communities where it's normal to write it out in detail, so I'm not entirely sure how I'm going to do it if/when it comes up. I'll want to write it in such a way that acknowledges the characters' unique sexual behaviors and how they can be expected to interact. This probably means that one person will write a PG-13 summary post of the encounter, if necessary. I'd only want something like that for the first encounter or so, though - once we have a good grasp of how the characters get along that way, sex is better insinuated than addressed directly within a thread.
What are your limits in regards to violent scenes (within the TOS)?
I don't have the stomach for excessive gore and generally want it to be plot-appropriate. I'm unlikely to want to start plots guaranteed to contain extensive bodily harm (loss of body parts, massive wounds). Meta-human powers with gory/unpleasant effects are fine.
What are your limits in regards to abuse/rape in plots?
I feel as though, as a backlash against idealized characters, many people include an excessive amount of abuse and/or rape in their plots. So I'm skeptical of its inclusion in an RP. It does have its place, though, particularly considering that Thomas often mentors troubled people. Brief episodes of abuse are fine to be played out - drawn-out scenes are better summarized. I'm honestly likely to lose interest if rape enters into a plot but, if it must, I'm more comfortable with it being implied than occurring in the middle of a thread.
Anything else?
Forum RP is still going to be an adjustment for me, so please forgive me if I fall short of decorum or am otherwise awkward. I respond well to criticism and guidance, so don't be afraid to help me out if it looks like I need it.
