The BasicsName: Kyle Erik Ward
Nicknames: Not yet
Age:16 (Oct. 31 1999)
Orientation: Heterosexual
Desired Rank/Job: Student
Powers: Super Enhanced Perception. Kyle's 5 basic senses are enhanced beyond those of a normal human beings. As helpful as this may seem having constantly enhanced senses can, and usually does, lead to some distasteful situations with most everyday objects (a pencil is certainly not smooth and doesn't always smell good, or taste good when you place it in your mouth to think). Kyle's ability causes him to suffer from severe migraine headaches, fatigue and can lead to synesthesia in later years. Also he suffers from a transient lack of attention that comes from focusing solely on a single sense, really more of a bad habit that he's hoping to work out as he continues learning to live with SEP
Kyle has gained a certain amount of control over his abilities with his time at Kocher, but they can still get the better of him at times. Most everyday activities like watching TV or movies, reading a book, getting dressed, being in public can turn into miserable disasters if given a microsecond of a chance. Most of the time Kyle has learned to focus on a single input of stimuli which helps quiet the others but can make him appear lost in though/disinterested in what is going on around him.

Eye Color: Steel Grey
Any Piercings? No
Any Tattoos? Not yet
Any Scars? No
General Appearance: Kyle stands at 6 feet even, a little taller than other boys his age, but is wiry and thin at 140 pounds. Keeps his wavy brown hair cut to just below his ears, sometimes will have the ends bleached.
Kyle mostly wears durable, loose comfortable clothing made from brushed cotton and fleece, silks and blends of those materials to keep from bothering his enhanced touch too badly. Wears colors that accentuate his eyes, which he believes are his best feature, mostly cool colors like shades of greys and blues and blacks. During the summer and bright winter days he will always have sunglasses on, even indoors if there's a lot of windows, to protect his enhanced vision. Always wears the necklace that Lily gave him with the single raven wing on it, kind of their "friendship necklace".
All Kyle's formal wear is made of silk cotton blends and suits in cotton. Suits in dark colors, shirts in white or wine red and ties in about any color. Kyle likes to look good and "dapper" especially if it's a formal affair.
Nights Kyle wears cotton and hemp blend shirts and shorts mostly in shades of blue and sometimes a green or white.
Winters and sometimes Autumn Kyle will wear scarves and a Sherlock Holmes' style trench coat that comes down to about his mid-calf on those cold days that call for something warm.
Personality: Kyle is mostly reserved and withdrawn at first but once you get to know him he can be very happy and outgoing. He's usually up for trying anything new at least once unless it's going to kill him, land him in jail or make him sick (Which has really helped with the SEP). Kyle is fairly soft spoken and is pretty likable, but doesn't enjoy being around a lot of other people, large crowds can make him nauseous due to sensory overload. As much as he doesn't like crowds he loves one on one interactions with his friends or small groups out in public, the fun times they have usually let him focus on what they're doing and to tune out all the outside stimuli fighting for his attention.
Kyle prizes friends and loyalty above all else, there is no line between family and his best friends. When they're together they're having a great time and usually can think of something random and fun to do to pass the time. It is a very high pedestal the Kyle puts his best friends on and it is a very far and painful way to fall, which usually happens when one of his friends has been disloyal or done something to betray his trust. Doesn't handle betrayal or conflict very well, he's been pretty good to people and hasn't ever done anything to knowingly harm someone so he doesn't really know how to handle it when someone else betrays/causes him harm. Struggles at resolving conflicts because he usually waits to have his friends make the first move to repair the friendship and this can sometimes be mistaken for Kyle not wanting to remain friends. Usually will do everything he can to avoid a fight in the early stages of one, but doesn't really know how to handle one that's already started.
As much as Kyle likes friends, an intimate relationship with a girl makes him nervous, not that girls make him nervous, there's just a lot of touching involved with an intimate relationship is all. Kyle hasn't had the opportunity to be in a relationship that's more than friends yet and he isn't quite sure how it will affect his SEP, whether he will be able to stay focused enough to keep from sensory overload, yet not so focused as to seem like he isn't interested in what's going on. It's a very fine line and Kyle isn't sure if he's up to walking it and the thought of trying to makes him nervous, which in turn can make him nervous around girls that he wants to be more than friends with.
All of the typical teenage vices have no appeal to Kyle, how appealing would a cigarette be if you could smell and taste each individual thing it took to make it and even the hands or machines that made it? Most drugs and alcohol are like that for Kyle, he can't even handle the smell of it in the same room much less think about ingesting something like that.
Kyle also has been OCD almost as long as he can remember, everything has a place and needs to be put in that place. This mostly applies to Kyle and his possessions or his place of residence and can make him a particularly difficult or good roommate to have (depending on your point of view). Public places and other peoples homes/dorms don't bother Kyle all that much when it comes to his OCD, he understands that it isn't is stuff and it's out of his control what other people do with their things. This certainly doesn't keep him from pointing things out anyway.
Kyle adores music, from one or two classical songs to one or two rap songs and everything in between. There hasn't been one genre that Kyle hasn't found at least one song that he's enjoyed, but his favorites would be rock (Breaking Benjamin, The Veer Union, Nine Lashes, Art of Dying, Bullet for My Valentine). Since he's manifested he's had to use some special dampening head phones to be able to listen to his music. Music, Kyle believes, is an extension of one's soul and feels that you can get a pretty good feel of a person from listening intently to their iPod/MP3
Kyle enjoys thunderstorms immensely, of all the situations that aggravate his SEP thunderstorms don't. Thunderstorms were one of the first things that he learned to focus on and enjoy. The darkness that comes from the clouds covering the sun, the cool rain that falls and the rolling thunder all combine to create a surprisingly relaxing environment for Kyle and make him feel safe and confident.
Kyle is afraid of losing his friends like he lost Lily, not that he will get transferred and perhaps never see them again, but that the friendship will fizzle out. This can sometimes lead him to hold on a little too tightly to friendships.Your VicesLikes: Thunderstorms - the more the better!

Any Other Important People: Kyle's friend from the orphanage, Lily, who he doesn't think he will ever see again.HistoryKyle was born Oct. 31 1999 on a stormy night in Germany, at least that's what he likes to tell himself, the only thing he knows for sure is that it was Germany because it's where he's been his whole life. Kyle's great grandfather, on his father's side, came from England to Germany on business and fell in love and decided to live in Germany for the rest of his life. This is where Kyle gets his English name and his German middle name is from his mother's side of the family, who've been German far back in the family tree. Shortly after he was born he was placed in the care of an orphanage where he spent most of his time.
The early years Kyle can't remember much of, they're all a blur of rules, broken rules and punishments until he grew to recognize what was wanted of him and what other people wanted to hear. The orphanage wasn't exceptionally strict but Headmistress Rosa believed in placing the building blocks for one to become an upstanding member of society, as long as that meant fulfilling her expectations in maintaining a spotlessly clean orphanage and working for your fellow orphans (serving meals, being handymen/women).
Of all the orphans that were in the orphanage, Lily was Kyle's closest friend. They did everything together and managed to pull off a few perfect heists around the orphanage and even more imperfect ones. When Kyle and Lily were together Kyle knew that they had fun times ahead and that nothing would keep them from enjoying their time together. When Kyle and Lily weren't in trouble or getting in trouble they were constantly exploring the old building that the orphanage was based out of. There was no end of nooks and crannies worth exploring for two young kids, they liked to pretend that the orphanage was theirs and only they knew it's deepest secrets. Kyle and Lily spent as much time together as possible doing any number of things that happened to come into their heads throughout the entire season, in snow and sun. They also discovered that they shared a love of books and read anything that they could get their hands on, mostly classics from the small collection of books that the orphanage had on hand. Sometimes they could go to the library, if Rosa would let them, and read books there to their hearts content. They had similar book interests, mostly Edgar Allan Poe and H.P. Lovecraft, but they did have favorites of their own. Kyle fell in love with Sherlock Holmes and Lily devoured the Greek Myths. It all came crashing to an end, as it inevitably would.
Somewhere deep down Kyle and Lily knew that it would never last, they were after all in an orphanage waiting to be adopted, and when Kyle turned 10 in 2009 that's exactly what happened. It came in the form of a young German couple that had been wanting to adopt a boy, because they had just been notified that they couldn't have children of their own. Rosa kept immaculate records on all the children in her care from health records to school records, it all was kept under lock and key in her office. One of the records she kept was their work record while they stayed at the orphanage and Kyle's was one of the most exemplary work records she'd ever had. Not only had he done well in school but he had developed OCD while working to "serve his fellow orphans" under Rosa's watchful eye. The German couple, Lukas and Johanna Wolff, were extremely impressed and decided to adopt Kyle to his dismay. The adoption process was completed after about 6-8 months, with a visit to the Wolff home for one of those months, and against all of Kyle's deepest desires, wishes and most ardent protestations. The day before Kyle would be leaving with the Wolff's Lily came to his bunk and gave him a necklace with a set of raven wings on a silver chain. The inscription on one wing read, "All I loved," and the other wing read, "I loved alone" a quote from Edgar Allan Poe, whom they had both come to love dearly. Lily removed the wing that read, "All I loved" and told Kyle that he could keep the other and they would always remember each other.
For the first year and a half Kyle and Lily continued to keep in contact with snail mail, until Lily too became adopted and then their correspondence came to an end, despite the letters Kyle continued to send. Kyle became despondent and lost his interest in things that used to make him happy, books no longer excited his imagination, not even his favorite Sherlock Holmes. Lukas and Johanna tried to get him involved at school, tried to encourage activities that would help him make friends but Kyle's performance at school continued to worsen, academically as well as socially. Kyle continued to remain detached from everything and would spend most of his time in his room listening to his music, which almost became a friend in itself that would soothe his sadness like no one could. Shortly after Kyle turned 13 his world took another drastic and life altering turn that he's still coping with.
The day that Kyle manifested he was laying in his bedroom relaxing and grateful for a day out of school when he was struck with a sudden onset of nausea. As he was stumbling to the bathroom, Kyle manifested and it was the most miserable experience of his life to that point. The world reeled around Kyle and he fell to the floor, information began flooding into his consciousness. Kyle could feel and hear the house grumbling and creaking beneath him as it settled, felt and heard water running through the pipes as Johanna was cleaning dishes, the smell of fresh bread somewhere outside wafted over his nose despite their nearest neighbor being almost a mile away. Individual motes of dust and flecks of skin cells danced through his vision, pirouetting like the dancer of a music box. As bad as the external stimuli was the internal was far worse, Kyle felt the friction of blood pumping through the veins of his body, felt the valves of his heart opening and closing, could hear his lungs work like a bellows, smelled that mornings breakfast on his breath. It was what felt like a murderous eternity later that Johanna found Kyle lying on the floor in a sensory overload stupor. Johanna rushed Kyle to the hospital where he was discovered to be meta-human and a power dampening meta was brought in to help Kyle regain control of his senses. Kyle subsequently was enrolled at Kocher a few days later as Lukas was a recruiter. Kyle was excited about his power, it made him feel much more like Sherlock Holmes, who became his hero in the years after his manifestation. During Kyle's first years at Kocher he was paired with a powers dampening school official at all times until he trained enough to keep sensory oblivion at bay. Kyle enjoyed his time at Kocher but the first years almost passed in a blur with classes, power training. Kyle still struggled with losing Lily and it still overflowed into his work at school which continued to suffer.
In February of 2015, the year Kyle would turn 16, Lukas announced that he would be taking a job at the Hammel Institute to compensate a personnel change and that all of them would be moving out to Pilot Ridge in May. Kyle was absolutely ecstatic at the news of visiting a foreign country and began ferociously studying English to prepare for his time at Hammel, his joy spilled over into his remaining school work at Kocher and grades began a slow climb from what they were. Kyle ate, drank and slept English on top of his normal school work and finally felt prepared for his time in America when they left May
May finally arrived and Kyle was finally registered at Hammel and, despite his rigorous study of the English language, had remained to himself the first few months. This habit he had developed over a couple of depressive and disconnected years in Germany proved a hard habit to break despite his joyful manner and natural inclination to friendship. Despite Kyle's lack of social development at Hammel, his school work and power training blossomed in just a few short months and the Wolff's noticed. During the summer break Lukas took the opportunity to return to his job at Kocher and the Wolff's broke the news that they would be returning without Kyle. The Wolff's had a long talk with Kyle one evening pointing out that he had done better here at Hammel than all his years back in Germany and Kocher. Kyle understood, he'd been hoping that his would be their decision and had been planning on making his own case to this end the same night. Lukas outlined what Kyle would need to do to get housing and left Kyle with enough money to see him through a couple months and promised that there was more and they would be supporting Kyle fully despite the distance.
The Wolff's left Hammel for Germany toward the end of summer vacation and classes resumed and Kyle went with the flow, his life had taken quite a few bumpy and rough turns but he was excited. Kyle had picked up enough English nuances in between May and summer break that he felt confident enough to carry on a conversation and was determined to make friends at his new home, Hammel. After all, he was effectively on his own now and very much alone in the world.
The first couple months were difficult for Kyle, it appeared that making friends was going to continually elude him his entire time at Hammel. Luckily, shortly before Thanksgiving, Kyle made a couple friends in Iris and Jordan Applegate. These new friendships must have increased his courage because shortly after meeting them he made friends with Ruby Parker and was also reunited with his Kocher schoolmate Serena Varsair and they became fast friends due to similar pasts.Roleplay ExampleKyle sat at the dinner table, enjoying the dinner that Johanna had made, his favorite, cheese and bacon pizza. Kyle focused on the smell of the aromatic food, keeping him distracted from the horror of feeling and hearing the swallowing process, Johanna had gone all out tonight! Garlic clove and basil crust, the imported Parmesan cheese, smoky hickory bacon this was aroma heaven! Kyle took another hearty and hurried bite and swallow and waited until Lukas and Johanna had worked themselves up to what had been bothering them all day.
It had all started last night, as Kyle was falling asleep, he heard Lukas bring spare cardboard boxes up from the basement and begin packing their bedroom, but they hadn't yet asked him to begin packing his bags. Kyle's suspicions had deepened when they had sat at the dinner table and Lukas's back muscles grew progressively more taught, with the sound like wind or the tide coming in, and his heart rate increased. Kyle had grown to trust the Wolff's over the years though and knew that what they wanted to say would come in it's own time, so he dug in to dinner and tried to catch snatches from the episode of The Office their neighbors had on.
Finally, once Johanna and Kyle were clearing up the table, Lukas asked Kyle to come into the dining room again and have a seat. Kyle came back into the dining room and apprehensively had a seat and Lukas sighed, "Son, you probably already know, but Johanna and I are going to be returning home within the next week. We have talked it over and decided that you will be staying here at Hammel, we've already talked with Headmistress Morgenstern and all the particulars have been worked out."
"Really? You guys are going back home and I'm going to stay here at Hammel? I can't say that I'm not excited, I really am but are you sure you're ok with this?" Kyle had secretly been hoping that he would be allowed to stay at Hammel. Kyle smirked, "It is a little intimidating I guess, being on my own.". Johanna laid a reassuring hand on Kyle's shoulder, "Kyle, we've seen how well you've done here at Hammel and we know that you've noticed as well. You haven't done this well since you were talking with Lily, Lukas and I feel that this is the best thing for you, besides we aren't going to just leave you here without any support at all." Johanna smiled and winked, "We've been saving to help you with college and we've got an advance that we're going to give you to help you get started here at Hammel.". Lukas reached into his pocket and produced a thick wad of bills and handed them to a very stunned and grateful Kyle. Kyle felt the weight of the wad and could smell the musky inks that saturated the paper, "I don't know if I can take this.....I don't know what to say, 'thank you' feels too cliche but thank you so much." Kyle had never had this much money at one time before, the weight certainly felt good and he was already going through books and CD's that he "needed". Lukas looked seriously at Kyle, "This is for school things and to keep you from dying from starvation only, I don't want you going and blowing half of it at the Book Nook understand? Oh, I've also got one more thing for you, I almost forgot."
Lukas climbed the stairs to the second story and returned with a matching set of Kocher luggage bags, "We get new ones of these almost every year at the staff Christmas dinner, so I figured you'd like a set to remember us by" Lukas smiled a sad smile as he stood the luggage against the wall. They came in a small bag and 3 different sizes of the rolling luggage bags, all black with the Kocher coat of arms emblazoned proudly across the front of the bags. Kyle was speechless, this amount of consideration and thoughtfulness he almost couldn't bear and certainly wasn't expecting, he smiled an easy smile at Lukas, "Kocher sure knows how to spoil their recruiters huh? They're awesome! I'm going to go pack them right now!" Kyle went to run off to pack his bags, now excited for his new and permanent life at Hammel to begin. Lukas stopped him, "Kyle first we have to go over what you need to do once we leave, first you will need to stop by the main office to apply for housing in the dorms..........."What About You?Name: Poe
