You my new roommate?(Iris)

Classes had ended for the day, and that meant Colton was heading for his dorm to grab a few things before he went out. He had turned sixteen a few days ago, getting his license on the same day, and he had also started the process of looking for a job. It had become a must have actually, his parents had said they wouldn't pay for anymore of the games or songs he kept buying on his phone, this left him with no option except to get a job as he didn't know anyone at the school very well. He was lucky in that he had found a job in Pilot’s Ridge, and he had an interview tomorrow so he was preparing himself for the rest of the day instead of reading. He just hoped a distraction wouldn't come along.

He had finally gotten back to the room after crossing most of the school from his final class, heading inside Colton was surprised when entered and saw a girl in the dorm’s common room. He had had female roommates a few years earlier, so that wasn't something he really cared about, but he knew that his current roommates were all male. He stared at her for a second before he closed the door behind him, walking a little closer he decided to ask the strange girl who she was, “Hello, are you one of my roommates?” As he spoke Colton noticed a little speck of dirt on his glasses and began wiping them while he waited to see what the girl would say.

Iris usually visited her brother Jordan's room for many reasons. The urge to annoy, 'borrowing' his DVDs, helping him practice his ability or, most commonly, simply to wake his unconscious ass. The red-head expected to have received a text from him to tell her that he was awake; since it was her job to wake him up; but she hadn't received any messages. What's even stranger is that he wasn't in his room. This meant that he either forgot or had passed out somewhere and so, Iris decided to wait here from him.

Iris had been playing a game on her phone whilst waiting for the text when she heard a voice. Assuming it was directed at her, she was usually in the dorm when others were out, Iris looked up from her lying down position on the sofa and spotted another student. What had he asked? Roommates?

"Nah, I'm waiting for my brother." She said, turning off her phone and pushing herself into a comfortable sit. Most would assume that this behavior was strange, being so comfortable in a place that wasn't theirs but this was normal for Iris. "His name's Jordan; usually the one that face-plants the floor every now and then." She joked.

As Colton finished wiping off the grime from his glasses he noticed how easy going she was in his dorm even after she had just admitted to not living there, believing this to be a little odd but not saying anything as he just assumed it was a strange custom among this girl and her brother. A blank look crossed the Texan’s face as the redhead described her brother to him, he hadn't really seen much of his dorm mates since his former ones had left. “I guess we keep missing each other, ‘cause I believe I would remember someone like that.” Colton spoke with a shake of his head and a shrug of his shoulders in response to the girl’s joke, looking around he asked, “So, is your brother here? If not then do you mind me sitting down?” Unfortunately for the bespectacled boy he had once again lost control of his language and had begun speaking in Spanish unknowingly, which could cause some problems as he had assumed the girl would accept his request and had begun advancing towards the her so he could sit down in the chair next to her.

Iris opened her mouth to reply to the student's question but quickly shut it as he began to speak again... in another language. The redhead had never been good at languages; she still struggled with some English words. Like regularly - how do you say it...

As the boy sat down, Iris pondered how to respond. She should say something, even if she didn't understand the context of what he said. The light manipulator decided to say whatever normal people might discuss. Iris decided to answer the question she knew the answer to first.

"No, my brother isn't here. I'm not sure where he is." She answered truthfully. Although each of her siblings keep track of each other, sometimes they simply didn't answer their phone to be annoying. "And yes. I too like cake." Iris said in an incredibly serious tone, guessing whatever the context of the other sentence was. The redhead didn't care about sounding silly or stupid. She'd rather say a slightly strange sentence than say nothing at all.

Colton let himself get comfortable as he sat down, bringing his legs under his body to sit cross legged in the cushioned chair. He listened as the girl talked about her brother’s whereabout, leaning back casually, knowing he had a few hours to spare for conversation. “Well, I've got nothing to do for a couple hours if you want to hang with me until you hear from, Jordan right?” Colton tried to sound gregarious as he spoke, but it was mostly to appear nice. He often found talking to people boring unless he found a common interest.

A confused look crossed Colton’s face as he heard the red headed girl speak about liking cake. The seriousness in her voice as she said the seemingly random sentence left the Texan feeling like he may have walked into a conversation with one of the stranger kids at this school. As this though went through his head the boy pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose before saying cautiously, “So, is there anything else you like… I'm sorry I don't know your name.” Colton tried hard to just ignore the statement from the girl before he realized a little bit of information he would need to not sound like an idiot.

"Sure, it's awkward alone." Iris said, feeling sorry for Colton as she knows that her strangeness is a curse to those around her. She draws power from confusion. Mwahahahaha.

Iris raised an eyebrow slightly as the fellow student seemed very confused at her statement. It had seemed logical to respond with something random since he had said something random in another language. Then again, it's possible he had no clue he was doing it, just like Iris had no clue that she can temporarily blind herself by bending light wrong. That was a scary morning....

"My name's Iris." She answered Colton's suggested question with a grin, leaning back as she pondered things she liked to answer his first question. "Well... I definitely like dragons and shiny things." Who doesn't like dragons? "And recently I've become really interested in ancient Greeks; especially their mythology. What about you?"

“Nice to meet you Iris, I'm Colton.” As the bespectacled boy spoke he stuck out a hand towards the red headed girl. After the girl either shook his hand or not he became a little off put by her smile, but quickly felt better as Iris told him the things she was interested in. Colton shrugged his shoulders when Iris asked him about his interests saying nonchalantly, “I like a lot of different things, but I mostly like to read, play video games, and watch cartoons.” He knew admitting he stilled enjoyed watching cartoons at his age was an almost certain way of getting laughed at, but Colton had no intention of staying anywhere near this frigid state after he graduated, so he didn't care if anyone at Hammel knew.

Iris smile softened to a some-what normal expression as Colton expressed his interests. It was nice to meet someone with similar interests; though her preferred genre of video-games and cartoons might be different to his - still cool though.

"What kind of videogames do you play? My brother and I used to play Portal together but he kept getting annoyed because I kept moving the puzzle cubes." She chuckled. Ah, memories. Specifically memories of making your robot brother fall into a pit of pollution, listening with glee to his enraged yells from the other computer.
