Entry One - Old English - April 4th, 2016
Google lists the definition as:
"the language of the Anglo-Saxons (up to about 1150), a highly inflected language with a largely Germanic vocabulary, very different from modern English."
Google is only partially right. I personally know the truth, mostly because I speak it. It's quite fun actually. I enjoy doing the old english words, they challenge me, well, as challenging as they get for me. I mean seriously, I already know every basic language, and I had to challenge myself somehow. Mother already misses me, but Cindy will keep her company. I do miss Cindy, my yellow lab, but I don't miss mother as much. She was always telling me to go and make friends instead of reading. She always tried to get me to do things she never got to do as a kid, those things I don't want to do. I feel alone sometimes, like I should be doing something better than reading. But without books, I'm not really the Maggie I know.
Mother would be proud of me today, though. I talked to a girl my age, she dances. Some boys were trying to be annoying, so I told them to leave us alone. Now, every time I see her, I think of how I was brave enough to speak to someone, instead of being the one who is in the background. Mother also says I use too many words in my sentences, but I want to make them rich and interesting, not like the boring simple ones she always makes me say at home. I'm going to stay at Hammel this weekend, I've made up my mind.
And in case Google is wondering, it doesn't really have that much german in it, seriously, not even close! Well, there's like a few roots that have german origins, but other than that, no, just no.
