((This thread is an open, one-post per character thread in honor of Mother's Day. However your character celebrates the mothers in their lives, feel free to post it here. We always need more love and feelings here at Hammel!))
Sunday had always been Nik's standard day off. Not because of religious preferences, but simply because it meant spending time with her family.
And sleeping in, of course. The doctor was not an early riser normally, and today was no exception. Therefore, it was somewhat of a surprise when she woke up before ten, her bedroom brightly lit but flickering from the very light overcast outside. The house was somewhat eerily quiet, so the mother of two simply laid about for a moment before stretching and going about her routine.
After a shower, stepping out of her bathroom revealed a small bouquet of white flowers and a baked apple rose. The card with the flowers made her laugh, dedicated as it was from her younger daughter with lots of doodles and cheerful faces. Considering the warmth of the treat, it must have been left for her just before she finished drying off. But there was no one in sight, so...
Taking the flowers and "rose", Nakia walked about the house, but her family was mysteriously absent. A card was left for her on the table (signed by Appoline with a lovely note added), as was breakfast - homemade crepes and coffee, also still hot. Suspicion drew over her, and blue eyes glanced around before the albino woman finally sighed in exasperation. "Come on, everyone," she called out, laughter edging her stern tone. "I do want to see you all at some point today!"
With a prelude of laughter, Cassi burst into the open from the sliding door, hugging her mother with the full force of an excited teenage girl. The pale woman laughed as well, hugging her back, and grinning up at her husband, who leaned in the doorway smiling at her. "Let me guess; your idea?" she asked ruefully.
He shrugged, nonplussed and unspeaking. But his glance to their younger child said more than his silence hid, and Nik gripped the girl harder. "Thank you, Cassi - this was a wonderful idea."
Little did she know that there was more to come.
