Percie sat surrounded by shopping bags of various sizes, textures and colors but holding the same things...clothes, shoes, toys and other things that would make the little girl eating goldfish crackers across from her happy. Lainey reached for another cracker, ate it thoughtfully and then took a drink out of her sippy cup. It was the quietest Percie had seen her since she'd brought Lainey home a few weeks ago. "Sweetie are you okay?" she asked gently as she wondered what was going through the little girl's mind.
"I like my new sheets," Lainey said in her "matter-of-fact" voice. "I won't get them wet!" she continued with some urgency. Percie was puzzled until she realized that Lainey must be talking about her bed wetting. It wasn't a nightly problem but it was often enough that Percie quickly realized that two sets of bedsheets were not going to be enough.
"Oh, Honey it's okay," Percie reassured her daughter (AAAAHHH HER DAUGHTER) as she reached over and smoothed a hand over Lainey's hair. She was actually a bit more concerned about Lainey's nightmares, those happened almost as much the bedwetting and posed a slightly larger problem. "I know you'll do your best to keep them dry, but if you make a mistake it's okay," she explained patiently. She'd already red up on bedwetting, spending hours trying to figure out the best way to handle it. It was hard being annoyed though when Lainey was so genuinely upset that she wet the bed.
"Can we have macaroni for dinner?" Lainey asked suddenly, completely changing subjects withing seconds, there was the little girl Percie was more familiar with.
