Look at That (Marnie)

((OOC: This is back dated to closer to when Marnie’s college semester ended.))

The summer was soon to be upon them, and the weather in Pilot Ridge had turned towards warm and humid as it always did in May and June. Hammel was weeks away from their summer break, a time where the students and faculty received a month-long recess from classes before the summer term began).

Unlike Hammel, the colleges were not on a full-year schedule, and recessed in mid-May until September, typically. This put the college students on a different schedule than Hammel (and both on a different schedule than the local public schools).

Marnie had signed her lease to rent Josh’s house for a full year, rather than an academic year, and so Sean knew that she was going to remain in or around Pilot Ridge for the summer. Still, with how she had not been able to return home for Thanksgiving, combined with the affection that the psychiatrist felt for her, he decided to call one Saturday morning while Josh was at Temple and Sean had some downtime waiting for him to finish.

Since he wasn’t sure if Marnie was at the house, he opted to call her cell phone rather than the landline. After dialing her number, he held his phone to his ear, listening to each ring and waiting for her to answer.

Marnie hadn't had this much free time on her hands since she was twelve years old. Her exams had come and gone - three A's and two B's for the spring, hallelujah - and while she hadn't totally settled on which classes to sign up for in the fall, she'd been through the course catalog a few times with a red pen.

The first couple of days of "freedom," Marnie attempted to sleep in, luxuriating in her days off. By the third day she missed her morning runs too much and abandoned the idea. By the end of the week she'd finished cleaning the house from top to bottom, made a dent in her to-read list, and called both her parents and her aunt multiple times. When the weather was nice she rode downtown, window shopping and drinking iced coffee to avoid cabin fever. Of course Marnie wasn't going to complain about having a full summer break, but what was she going to do for three whole months?

With the volume turned all the way up, the chime of Marnie's cell phone was loud and obvious. She sprang from the floor where she was organizing her books into piles - again - and snatched the phone up. Maybe it would be her first callback!

"Hello, this is Marnie Sullivan speaking," she answered brightly, more than her typical "hello?" Even over the phone, first impressions were a big deal, after all.
