The Basics
Name: Nonie Holt
Nicknames: Lil’ Holt, Lil’ Mouse
Age: 16
Orientation: Unsure
Desired Rank/Job: Student
Powers: Size Alteration: Ability to change the size of one’s body. Nonie is capable of reducing herself down to the size of a mouse at most (roughly 15cm or 5in). Any smaller than that and she will start to have issues with internal functions (breathing, heart rate, etc) as they start to reduce to a size that can’t properly support her body. In addition, shrinking down to smaller than this comes with the increased risk of her possibly getting stuck at that size. Which means she could get stuck in a very dangerous situation where she's far too small and isn't breathing well or something similar.Though she is capable of maintaining any size between her limit and her regular size, she cannot make herself any bigger than her normal height. After using her power, her limbs often feel stiff/sore for a while in whatever new size she takes. This is especially true when she shrinks down to extremely small sizes, or goes from extremely small to her normal immediately.
For the most part she has somewhat semi-decent control over changing her size when she intentionally tries. However, she has difficulty keeping her size at times and when she is frightened, nervous, or anxious she will usually shrink down unconsciously. She also can, on occasion, get stuck at one size for varying amounts of time (from 5 minutes to 4 hours).

The Details
Hair Color: Brown
Eye Color: Blue
Any Piercings? None
Any Tattoos? None
Any Scars? Plenty on her hands and feet; little scraps and nicks that have built up over time to make the skin calloused.
General Appearance: Standing at a petite 5’1”, Nonie’s nickname of “Lil’ Mouse” is one well earned. She has brunette hair that gets darker in the winter and far lighter in the summer. For the most part it’s in a messily cut short style, but sometimes it manages to grow out past her shoulders. Although usually it’s covered up by a hood when she goes anywhere. Her facial features are fairly plain; her face is rather round with soft curves rather than striking edges and angles. The only thing that pops out somewhat are her eyes: they are an incredibly light blue color that can light up further when she smiles.
Beyond that Nonie is pretty scrawny. She’s got a delicate looking build to her without a lot of obvious muscle. Despite that she’s an incredibly faster runner though. Typically the kind of clothes she wears are whatever she could get her hands on, ranging from mostly intact jackets to scuffed up jeans. She doesn’t have many clothes, so it’s highly likely for her to repeat outfits frequently. However, she does her best to keep them clean. With recent events, that’s been made a little easier.
Personality: How Nonie acts depends on who she is interacting with. With most people- strangers and others she is still relatively unfamiliar with- she is nothing more than a mouse. She is the very definition of a Nervous Nelly and is about as skittish as a deer. Those blue eyes of hers (when they aren't being obscured by the shadows of a hood) are often wide and fearful. She is a very paranoid individual who approaches most, if not all, conversations with strangers with the same amount of caution as she would an upset animal. She's a coward as well, and when things feel too dangerous or uncomfortable it's not uncommon for her to outright flee entirely while shrinking down to the size of her nickname.
But with her friends or her so called “Family," she is entirely different. When Nonie actually feels comfortable, she relaxes. At her core, she is a very caring individual with an exceptionally strong big sister complex. She is extremely loyal to those she considers friends/family. For them she can be brave even as her heart is trying to pound its way out of her chest. With them she laughs and jokes and smiles far more frequently, and is much less prone to stuttering and stammering her way through all her sentences. When you actually know her, she's really quite sweet and protective. Even if it means she has to push aside her usual cowardice.

History
(I apologize as this ended up much longer than expected)
Nonie was literally born homeless. With no biological parents in sight, she was found as only a baby in the South Bronx of New York by an elderly woman simply referred to as “Nana." The homeless woman decided to keep the little baby she'd found for her own, rather than turn her in. Perhaps a selfish (and more than slightly illegal) act, but not one Nonie ever came to resent. After she'd been given her name, Nonie, by her Nana, the elderly woman spent the next few years raising the small child she'd found.
They didn't have much; next to nothing really. The place they originally called "home" was nothing more than a back alley ramshackle shack they threw together using a tent and a few other things. It was small and cramped, made even smaller by the frequent visitors Nana got. She was a very caring woman, Nana, and the other downtrodden members of the society often came in to check on her as she fussed and cared for them to the best she could. Most, if not all, of these visitors soon became the true “family” Nonie had. They might not have been blood related, but the hardships they faced everyday trying to survive bonded them together. Eventually one of these frequent visitors convinced Nana and Nonie to move in with them into an abandoned building. The “house" wasn't much and was located in the slums, but at least they could have stone walls instead of fabric ones.
During all this time, Nonie learned how to survive on the streets. It wasn't easy. Small gangs littered the Bronx and going into a different block could put Nonie face-to-face with hostility. She got incredibly swift from practice; not for fun, but for necessity. She wasn't a fighter; she had no desire to hurt others. So she ran instead. The few times she got caught taught her that speed and dexterity were extremely important if she wanted to survive this way. So she adapted. Learned how to be stealthy and get about unnoticed, while also avoiding trouble.
Even with all the danger though, there were good parts to her life. "Home" was a warm and loving place. Her "family" of fellow homeless were wonderful in her eyes. They all had their own individual problems, yes, but Nonie knew them well. Together, they protected each other and strove to help one another. What had originally just been an offer extended to Nana soon became an offer extended to a few others as well. Their "home" became a haven. A place where they could find shelter, food, and decent company while working together to keep it that way.
However, Nana's age soon caught up to her. One day when Nonie returned, her Nana was not there to greet her. Instead she had passed peacefully in her chair, and found by other members of their tight-knit family. The news was devastating to Nonie They managed to pull together enough funds to hold a proper funeral for the woman. After that, Verney Holt took Nonie under his wing and essentially adopted the girl. He'd been by her side when she was very young, and was the closest thing Nonie ever had to a father or brother figure in her life. And so she took on the last name of Holt, and has been considered part of his family ever since.
But one day something strange happened. When Nonie was 16, she’d gone to bed completely normal one night. When she woke up, however, she suddenly found herself completely covered by some sort of cloth. In a blind panic she started trying to claw her way out only to realize that she was still at home. But everything had grown around her. Or, rather, she had shrunk in size. Absolutely terrified, she had rushed out of her room (opening the door while being only roughly 8 inches tall had been quite the challenge) to find Verney or anyone else. When she finally did find Vern, they were all properly freaked out by the experience. Nonie was stuck like this for a few hours, but eventually did go back to her normal size.
It was a horrifying experience for Nonie personally, but fortunately her family wasn’t disturbed by her manifestation. In fact upon discovering Nonie was a meta-human the whole family got even more protective of her. Their life was already hard enough as it was without meta-human persecution. Nonie was one of them: human or meta-human. She’d helped them all survive just as they had helped her. But even so, she had little control over her powers. When she grew scared she found herself unconsciously shrinking, and she was scared very often. In one particular case she ended up shrinking down to escape being chased. Which was what got her caught.
Only eight days later recruiters arrived on her doorstep asking for her. The entire affair was rather hectic. Under no circumstance did Nonie want to leave her home. It might not have been the best by any means, but these people had become her family. Now these strangers were there to take her away from what she’d known her whole life to a place she’d never seen before and where she would know no one. It was completely and utterly terrifying to her. In the end, she ended up sneaking out through her window and running like her life depended on it as Verney and the rest argued with the strangers invading her home.
However, it wasn’t the recruiters that found her first. It was Cayden Sherman, a woman Nonie basically saw as one of her older sisters, that caught up to her. They had a very, very long chat with each other, discussing what the recruiters had said and what that would imply for Nonie moving forward. As much as Nonie didn’t like to admit it, the school could give her a better education than what she currently had- having been “home-schooled” her whole life by her fellow homeless family members. It was also, as Cayden pointed out, a far safer place for her to live in. One where she wouldn’t have to fear for her life every day she stepped outside.
It took a lot of convincing, but eventually the two returned home. Another long discussion followed. Nonie was beyond nervous and still greatly against leaving her adopted family behind. She didn’t want to be all alone in some weird new place. But “no” wasn’t really an option. So with promises to see her family again and keep in contact with them, Nonie set off to Hammel Institute.
Roleplay Example
As Ethan finished up paying for his own items, he sighed.
Ethan wasn't a man that got angry often. It simply wasn't in his nature. Yet as he gathered up his things and turned back towards William, his expression had gone surprisingly cold. Memories were playing in his head. Of a figure bursting into his room. Of a tearful explanation given to him by a loved one. Of the hours spent consoling someone he cared very, very dearly about.
"You played with her heart." Ethan replied. "You used her so you could get a connection to our family name. You didn't love her the way you should have. You didn't even really love her at all, from the what I was told." His tone was a far cry from the typical jovial one he had. His dog seemed to sense the change in emotion, as it nuzzled into his side. The currently icy stare Ethan was giving William finally broke as he glanced down.
After petting his worried canine, he looked back at Will. His expression wasn't quite so icy, but he definitely wasn't smiling. "....I don't really understand the whole importance around family names. My dad seems obsessed with it too. And hey, it might be something really important to you or your own family. I don't know." He shrugged. "But what I do know is that you hurt my sister by doing that to her. My dad might not care that much, but I do. And while I'm open to people trying to make up for mistakes, you're definitely going to have to earn your forgiveness. Not just from me, but Rowan too."
