Money was never really an issue when it came to Jayson Matthews. His parents were upper class, they had three cars, a house in Hawaii as well as an apartment in New York as well as their large complex in Los Angeles. Jayson lived a rather comfortable life, he often got what he wanted when it came to material items and often got the best things that money could buy. However, like most things in life, there is always a catch and it came with his family, specifically, his parents. They were simply never around, often on either business trips or took long vacations which Jayson was never invited to, meaning he spent most of his years either with his nanny or with his Uncle and Aunt who lived not too far away. With such a distant relationship with his parents, Jayson never made those important, early connections as a child, meaning his view on family life became a little warped, which in turn affected his relationship with other people as well. He never made friends quite as easily, especially as a child, preferring instead to keep to himself and the few friends he did make, he usually never got too attached to, never trusting anyone to stick around for too long.
This view on relationships continued in his older years, continuing to believe most people just disappoint you and can’t be trusted, his group of friends getting smaller and seeing his parents as providers and nothing else really. They provided him with money; he in turn respected their lack of interested in him, almost as if it was some business like deal. Living without his parents guidance for so long meant that Jayson had to mature rather quickly, using books as one form of escape as a young child, allowing his vocabulary to continually expand, reading books beyond his normal years. However, at the same time, that isolation also turned him into a little bit of a trouble maker, especially in his later years, skipping classes, questioning authority and generally not following the rules that most boys his age were expected to follow with little question. Despite his troubles, Jayson isn’t a bad person, he’s distant, sarcastic and perhaps a little too blunt, but most of these are simply masks that most troubled and lonely kids put up, too afraid to break down and let anyone see what they can truly be like and Jayson is no exception. So afraid of opening himself up and being honest with someone, he’d rather keep everyone at a distance and not risk being disappointed yet again with people letting him down.
He'd always assumed with his paresnts absence, that his gift would remain unknown, that he could simply choose to ignore it and life would go on as normal. But apparently, life doesn't always give you what you want and soon, he was being tracked down by people from an institution known as "Hammel". Within two weeks they managed to find him and before he even knew it, Jayson was being sent of deep into Vermont, for his new life. That all happened when he was just thirteen, four years later and Jayson is still at the Hammel Institution, but has generally kept to himself, not going to many classes or talking to that many people, it seems a new enviroment hasn't caused him to change his ways.
His power itself is a little unusual, having the ability to bring his own, and other people’s shadows to life, giving their own being and being able to control the shadow with his own mind. Since, for the most part, the shadows are completely mindless, their manners and actions depend on Jayson’s own mind and what state it’s in. However, if Jayson is to lose control, the shadow will eventually start becoming unstable and eventually disappear back into the ground. Strength wise, the shadows are not invincible, but they are generally more violent than a normal human, though again, this is highly dependent on Jayson’s own mental state, so if he was in a state of extreme anger, the shadows would grow in strength and become more violent, compared to if he was perhaps sad or uncertain. While he has rather good control of his own shadow, controlling other people’s shadows is still rather new to him and he’s more likely to lose control with another person’s shadow, compared to his own. He’s also unable to control more than two shadows at a time. When it comes to the shadow of objects (rather than people), his power works a little differently. He is able to create a replica of the object through its shadow, much like a human, but unlike the shadows of humans, he is unable to change their appearance. His power works better in the light, where the shadows are stronger, meaning at night, his power is weaker. When it comes to "destroying" the shadow, there are a few ways to go about doing so. While they are stronger than your avergae human, able to take blows that a normal man could not, they are by no means unstoppable. The best two ways of defeating them is by either first weakening by losing the daylight or artifical light in the area, the second way is to try and attack Jayson directly, since the shadows state is dependant on Jayson's mental state. Side effects for his ability including a rather strong photosensitivity, as well as having a lack of energy (faigute), something which has led way to his addiction to energy drinks, to try and keep his energy levels going. Another, though slightly unusual side effect, is a general fear of the dark. He doesn't enjoy it, especially when there is absoloutley no light, he feels powerless, alone and vulnerable.Behind the M A S K . . .Name: Connie

How did you find us?: Advert on my own forum.Show your S K I L L S . . .There was always something special at the dawn of a new day to Jayson. A moment where night and morning to clash in perfect harmony, light and darkness if you will. It was possibly because that’s often how Jayson felt himself, somehow stuck between the two, never quiet knowing to which he belonged or to which he should feel safest in. It was undoubtedly due to his power that this question seemed to circle his mind constantly, a power that used the dark, yet relied on the light for it to be strong. Peculiar indeed. Silver eyes silently gazed down at his feet, a hint of amusement tugging on his lips as he looked down at his growing shadow, the one faded outline becoming darker, more visible with the sun gently seeping over the slumbering city. Closing his eyes for a moment, Jayson let the cool, crisp morning air wash over him; leaning against the side of the rooftop, a full view of the city below him if so chose to look down. He liked to come up here in the mornings, he wasn’t much of a sleeper, so chances were he’d get the chance to watch the dawn break over the city before everyone else decided it was time to face the day. He liked the quiet of it all, almost like the dawn was just his, for only his viewing, it was an oddly reassuring feeling.
Finally opening his eyes once more, the young man looked down at his shadow once more, the amused look from before turning into a light smirk as the shadow was now in full view, tainting the ground with its presence. Eyes closing once more, Jayson reached out his hand and tensed his fingers into an almost claw like position. For a second, nothing happened, but after just a few blissful moments of silence, the earth vibrated ever so slightly, causing Jayson to open his eyes and watch as a black, animated like hand began to seep from the ground, reaching back for Jayson’s hand, its fingers almost claw like. Slowly, more of the figure began to emerge from the ground and before long, a human shape had emerged from it, completely consumed by an almost animated black, no eyes, no real detailed features, just a filled in reflection, to be specific, a reflection of Jayson. As the unusual creature stood face to face with Jayson, it became clear that while it had no expression, it was indeed modelled after the teenaged boy. They met at the same height, the curled, pushed back hair was there, though the creatures was black like the rest of its being, its body shape and posture was the same, save for the claw like fingers and the unusual way its body swayed.
Jayson didn’t look frightened by the creatures presence, why would he be? He was the one who called it after all. Taking just a moment to look at the ground, Jayson smiled slightly, seeing the ground was no longer tainted, the rising sun still hitting Jayson’s back, yet no dark outline lay on the ground below like normal. Eyes skimming back over the creature, he pushed himself away from the side of the rooftop and nodded to the door leading downstairs.
“Come on you, we should probably get going.”
There wasn’t anything quite like talking to your Shadow face to face.
