Hello Hammel people! Nice to meet you all.

Well, as you can see, I'm new to this place and I really, like seriously, have no idea where to start. ._.

I play Hyun on here, a really awkward and confused girl from South Korea who hears voices all the time. How's that for a character?

So, like I said, I'm not really sure where to start, so if anyone would just be willing to thread with me so I can get the hang of things, I'd really appreciate that.

Seeing as Hyun has only lived in the US for about one year before she was sent to Hammel, she has some difficulties with the English language. She can understand and speak it decently, but she has a pretty heavy accent and occasionally mixes words up, so any potential friends would have to be pretty patient with her at first.

Hyun really doesn't like living in the US, so if your character is overly patriotic or insensitive about her homesickness, she really wouldn't like them.
She also struggles with her telepathic powers and would try to be alone as much as possible, so if you have a character that would try and prevent her from becoming completely isolated from everyone else, that would be great.

Welcome to the Hammel Institute! It's nice to meet you.

I play Sean Neville. He's the resident psychiatrist at Hammel. More importantly, he's 52-years-old and a telepath himself, so he's very familiar with how one struggles with telepathy. If she's having trouble, he would try to arrange meetings with her to help.

She sounds like how he was as a child, so he'll be sympathetic.

Also, he's very sensitive to individual's feelings, and has some opinions about modern culture that are counter-patriotic so that should be fine.

I play two boys on the site, both students. One's Jared and the other's Zac. Haha. But since Hyun seems to be too young and reserved for the jerk that is Zac, I give her Jared first.^^.

Jared, for all his quirks and oddities, is also South Korean, though he is what other Koreans may consider a kyopo as he is born and raised in Canada. And while his grasp of the language and other customs is a bit on the low side, staying with his grandparents for around 8 years did help in enriching him, if not totally submerging him in the culture.
That being said, Jared can be a great friend if Hyun needs some help. He’s so used to being the youngest kid that people take care of – Hyun can come as a challenge for him to finally grow up. Also, I see him wanting to learn more about his motherland (he’s never been there his entire life), so he might love pestering the kid with questions upon question. He’s a cheerful and perky kid, and he loves pulling people out of their boxes.
(And he’s a superpower enthusiast – he loves other people’s powers more than his – and telepathy is among his top 10, or 20. He’s probably say she has a wonderful power over and over and over again.^^)

As for characters, I have a herd, some of which she really wouldn't be in contact with. But there are one or two that might be good.

First: Eli! He is the genius librarian, and his ability is the mental capacity for all of human knowledge, coupled with perfect recall. He is fluent in Korean (and pretty much everything else as well) and hangs out in the library. So if she ever needs someone to talk to, but who won't pressure her to be more outgoing, maybe she can build a friendship with him? He's a good guy, and friendly, so long as she doesn't hurt his precious books.

And that's really it for now, though once she's settled in a bit, she might meet Oberon (the school's accountant) or Conrad (a researcher)[/justify]

Ingrid is the elderly biology teacher with an attitude. She's a caring person but has a really harsh way of showing it. Her personality often unintentionally frightens new students but she doesn't mean it. Ingrid just takes getting used to. She's actually pretty motherly, having been a teacher so long and having raised three kids.

Emma is a student at Hammel. She's a little older then Hyun, but Emma's pretty easy to get along with. She's generally nice and tries to please the people around her. Emma's not all that good with other females, being a tomboy raised in a very masculine environment, but she won't turn down anyone willing to speak. You mentioned in her app that she's worried about her parent's getting divorced. Emma's going through that right now and she might try to be comforting to the younger Hyun (if Hyun ever disclosed that, of course).

I hope you have a happy stay here!

Hey! Good to meet you. Sean seems like a really amazing character, and I can already think of a way for them to meet. (If you're not overworked with other threads at the moment, that is) Maybe I could use my RP sample from my profile as an opening post? I'm guessing a psychiatrist would know what to do when someone's having a panic attack, and he'd likely be able to calm her down and have a first session.
If that doesn't work for you, maybe she could've been sent to his office by another teacher who witnessed her breakdown?

Jared sounds like a person Hyun would really try to hang out with, if only because he's South Korean (Even if he was born and raised in Canada). She'd love to tell him everything about Korea and seeing as she was quite cheerful before the move and her powers manifesting, she'd more than likely enjoy his company.
All in all, he's like the perfect character for Hyun. What are the chances of that happening? It's fate I tell ya. XD
As for a thread, maybe they could meet in the cafeteria? Hyun would try and sit as far away from people as possible because she just doesn't want to hear them, maybe Jared could come over and sit with her and talk (Focus won't be on just her, promise )? Or it could be that all tables are taken and he has to sit with her maybe and he'd just be like "Hi!"?
Just a thought, if you have any other ideas, I'd love to hear them too.

I'd love for Hyun to meet Eli! She likes reading, and she was raised to respect other people's property, so she wouldn't intentionally mess his books up. <_<
Maybe for a thread, it could be that Hyun doesn't know where to find something and says something in Korean, he responds, and she's just like "WTFBBQ?!" and see where it goes from there?

Hey Kiki. I really love your name, I knew a cat named Kiki once and it was an absolute sweetheart, so I already like you. ...Random bit of useless info, sorry.
First of all, Emma. I think Emma and Hyun are actually in the same dorm room, so that could be a great place to meet sometime! Maybe something like, Hyun goes to her room, sees Emma there and Emma just explains a few things to her about Hammel (Seeing as she's been there longer), they discuss their powers and such? If the dorm is quiet, Hyun will likely be less awkward because she can't hear that many voices then, so she'd more than likely be nice to Emma and try to make friends. Also, Hyun doesn't love typical girl stuff at this time either, so Emma wouldn't have to worry about make-up talk.

As for Ingrid, she'd be perfect too, seeing as Hyun loves Biology. Maybe they could meet in class or Hyun could come to her with questions or something? I can't really think of any other way for a student to meet a teacher. XD

Hey! JennyBird here. I play Dimitri Spade, Piper Crumin and Ivan Avlang here on Hammel. I would offer all of them up, but...
A. Dimitri is really popular right now, and I really want to write more with my other characters
B. Ivan is a bastard and very evil and he hates all people under 20.

BUT! Piper is close to Hyun's age, being fourteen, she also misses her home, and she doesn't have enough going on right now. She's a little antisocial, but she'll warm up to anyone if given in the chance. She's pretty tough, and doesn't take crap from anyone and is notorious for attacking some kids in town when they call her unpleasant names.

I'm new to this site as well as Bells is, and I can see that they're both already having a hard time dealing with homesickness. I suppose it is a natural occurrence for most people at one point or another, but having more than one thing to bond on could help create a connection between both of them. She loves her country yes, but she also loves to learn about the world around her. Maybe Hyun could tell her a bit to get her mind off of everything else that's going on.

Hey Sarah! Thanks for the response, and welcome to Hammel! I hope you'll have lots of fun here.

Bells sounds really sweet, and I'd love for Hyun to meet her. I think they're both in Art Club, so that could be a good oppertunity to meet and chat.
Also, Hyun is still stuck in the whole Asian manners thing where she bows rather than shakes hands, so I'm guessing Bells would like that too.
Oh, and Hyun loves Korea, like seriously, so she'd talk her ear off about the people and the food and such when given the opportunity, so whatever she'd want to know, Hyun would happily tell her.

Oh wonderful, a daily fix of culture would do Bells well. And yes, she's in Art Club, on the Dance Team, and is in that "Not A Victim" group too, so she's doing all she can to put herself out there, within the limits of her interests. Bowing would actually work out better than hugging or shaking hands, since Anna's on a no-touch policy, if you know what I mean.
