ASPEN TURNER is by no means a normal young woman. plagued by the hatred of her mother since she was a child, she is focused on giving to those around her and refusing to take for herself.
As much as she desires close relationships with the people around her, growing up on a farm did little to hone her social skills. It takes an immense amount of courage to step forward and start just a regular conversation for her, and she is easily discouraged from the act if you show any form of aloofness or boredom.
Now 21, graduated and interning at the library, Ms. Turner leads a quiet and uneventful life. And, if you asked her creator, it's about time that it got shook up a bit.[/size]

ME BESIDE YOU
If you are interested in friendship, you should know, as kind and naive as Aspen is, she is easily scared by confrontation. She will avoid using heavy communication and tries to cut conversations short.
If you are persistent and can garner her trust (this mostly involves proving to her that you are not evil), then she has a way of blossoming. She is a loving friend to both men and women. Despite how most women surround themselves with other women, Aspen has always felt more at home with guys. Regardless of gender, once you're her friend, she will value you like a jewel. Her naivete may get a little annoying at times, but it's really just because she cares about your opinion.
As a friend she would act as both the role of child and mother. She would tend to anyone she loves for if they needed it, over the smallest things. Yet, if she is struggling with something, she is always quick to ask her closest of friends for help. She is an easily confused person if you try to deal with her in anyway outside of books. The role of her best friend will be an arduous task to uphold, but rewarding in the same measure.
She can't stand a manipulative, accusatory person, nor one who will try to assert dominance. A calm, peaceful person who is strong of mind will most quickly will her friendship.

LOVE DOESN'T LIVE HERE ANY MORE

Enemies are a difficult thing to find for Aspen. She believes heartily that there is good inside people, even when they don't recognize it. Many people find her idealistic immaturity silly and she knows that it is.

However, she still believes it.

She's not the type to try to change a person's decisions, but a person's actions always have a worthy purpose in her mind. She is willing to forgive even the worst of them.
However, it is not difficult to become someone she will avoid. If you insult her, make a joke that could easily be taken the wrong way or make a blatant sexual innuendo towards her, don't be surprised if you never spot her again. Since one of her most prominent fears is verbal abuse, she takes automatic dislike to anyone who uses a foul tongue (this includes swear words, insults, rude jokes and all alike).

MY SPECIAL SOMEONE

Aspen is in love.
HOWEVER, She has yet to figure out with whom she is in love.
Aspen is a hopeless romantic. Despite her abusive childhood, her father had always protected her from her insane mother. Thus, as a child, she fell in love with the image of a strong, heroic man.
Despite her romantic, girly nature, Aspen has never been in a relationship. Sure, she's had a chaste kiss or two, but never anything beyond that (ie; she's a virgin).
She can't flirt and she knows it, so she doesn't try. Though she knows it's silly, she dreams of a man rushing in to the library one day and sweeping her off her feet.

An idyllic man for Aspen would be handsome, strong and generally perfect. However, this truly is an inadequate statement, as she has never been in love, thus has no clue what type of person she would fall for.
All she knows is that she wants to wake up next to someone who will love her and protect her as her father did (they say that every daughter ends up falling in love with their father).

(I would love for someone to step forward to fill this role! I myself am a braindead romantic and would die from joy to locate the perfect man for her. I may be picky, but I'd be more than happy to discuss it with anybody willing to give it a shot.)

[Kali Caraway]

Wazzup?!

Something tells me that Kali and Aspen would get along great, for two main reasons; they both like to cook, and if Kali loves meeting friends, and if she is ever met with a shy person, Kali works to get them feel comfortable.

Kali tends to be loud and quick to express her opinions, but she isn't obnoxious. She is nice to those who are nice to her, and I just see the two of them being interesting friends since they are "polar opposites."

ahh, that'd be great!
i can easily picture Aspen being friends with some boisterous like Kali. She grew up on a farm, so she finds familiarity in loud-talkers. She would reconcile the two and develop a quick adoration for Kali, methinks~
Once they grew closer, Aspen would develop a gigglier, goofy side. It's the initial meeting that Aspen struggles with. If Kali were persistent, she could definitely dig up quite the litle child in Aspen.

Of course, if Kali is in to the social scene, she's going to run in to a few problems with Aspen there. As much as Aspen loves being around people, she is easily overwhelmed and scared by large groups of strangers. So be prepared to force her out the door every once in a while, if push comes to shove!

[Conrad Manne]

Well, let's see here.

First of all, Eli Morrison. Bio here. He's 23, and her boss in the library. He's been at Hammel since he was 12, so she likely knew of him prior to getting the job. He has the mental capacity for all of human knowledge, and is calculating and aloof on the best of days.

I'm not sure how they would get along, to be honest. He was abandoned by his mother and abused by his step-father as a child, and hasn't been good at making relationships since. He's got a best friend, and a dog, and he really doesn't see the need to forge an emotional connection with more people. But since they'll be working together, he's going to have to suck it up.

And I also have Conrad Manne. Bio here. He's not perfect, but he's a good man, kind and protective and just about her age. I'm not sure if they'd be perfect together, but I could see them getting along pretty well.

[Ingrid Barnes]

Ok, I've been staring at this awhile trying to think of how my characters would interact with Aspen.

Emma's a student who spends a lot of time in the library, so they might run into each other from time to time, but I'm not sure they'd have all that much interaction.

Ingrid's been a teacher here since the stone age, and admittedly she was the one who I was struggling with answering this about. Ingrid's loud, heavily opinionated, bored line (and sometimes just plain) insulting, and can generally be quiet unpleasant around those not used to her large personality. Honestly, with they way you describe Aspen, she might be a little (or a lot, actually) put off by the crazy old woman. But if Ingrid got her eye caught on the librarian, she just might not heed the girl's donotwant! and spend time bugging her anyway. So it might end up a case of Aspen not liking her and Ingrid not caring and trying to force Aspen to like her. Which if you're fine with, I am.

In any case, I bid you a rather belated welcome to Hammel. And though my girl's might not mesh with her, I have to say Aspen's adorable.

I have to say I'd believe their relationship to be almost too platonic. Unbelievably efficient in the work place, but past that, they know next to nothing about one another. Still, the whole deal with Eli's mother would give them something to share, if she was ever to learn of that information.

Conrad Manne
Well, he seems like a kind enough fellow. If he's patient with her and they happen to meet (in the library or by coincidence) I'm sure they could found a good, lasting friendship.

To be honest, Aspen would be rather conflicted in her opinion of Ingrid. The loud, boisterous personality would be familiar and welcoming to her, but her insults and general crudeness would push Aspen away. I think they'd have, quote unquote, moments of friendship.

[Annabelle Coronova]

Horrible dancer, Disney movie fanatic, and wonderful cook

Aspen seems like the wonderful mix of character to compliment Bells. Annabelle is also a huge bookworm, and when she lived in Maine, one of her favorite places was a must old coffeeshoppe lined with ancient, dusty books and a warm fireplace for the pure enjoyment of its patrons. Now that Annabelle is at Hammel, I can see Annabelle attempting to find peace and belonging, but when she gets discourage or feels alone, she comes to the library, which is the closest thing to what she remembered from home. From there, I can see her politely talking to Aspen, asking for reference and direction, and possibly, after coming to that library for an extended period of time, she might try and get to know Aspen a bit more. As they're both introverts, or at least that's what I'm getting from your ad, it would take a bit for them to warm up to each other, but friendship could be a possibility.
