General Appearance:
Sure she doesn't look it, but Rene is actually 37 year old. She has kept up on her health over the years and still eat healthy and exercises on a daily basis. Rene is a short girl, standing 5 feet and 4 inches. Despite her height she is still very attractive with a nice slim face and deep, thoughtful brown eyes. Her brown eyes are considerably dark though, and sometimes can be mistaken for black. Rene doesn't have a single scar on her body, but tattoos, those are a common occurrence. She doesn't get many anymore since she's supposed to be a respectable teacher. But from her younger years as an art student she gained two full arm sleeves and many across her back, torso, neck, legs, and even a few stars on her face. Despite her outward look she dresses pretty normal for a teacher, nice blouses and skirts or slacks but they are always quirky and odd even if they are nice. She adores obnoxious and shiny jewlrey and often wear bangles and big earrings and such. She is also pretty fashionable for a woman her age, heading toward 40.
Personality:
Despite her appearance, which scream rebellious teenager, Rene is actually pretty serious and mellow. When she teaches she always gets right in with the kids, she could even be a teenager. Outside of teaching she is a very thoughtful and serious lady, but she is independent and aggressive in competition. In her younger years she was always described as the 'fly on the wall' because she could hang out with boys and girls and ever clique imaginable and fit in. She fit better with guys mostly because of her strong and tough exterior but she's really a diamond in the rough. She puts on a tough exterior because of her past but she's actually kind of sensitive. When she is outside of the classroom Rene can be described as a very intelligent woman with a strong presence and confidant attitude.
Inside the classroom it's a completely different story. As an art major and now an art professor she finds her classes are less stressful. She takes trips outside often, getting kids out of the classroom. She wants field trips all the time into town to study different types of art, even graffiti. As she teaches she lets her inner child go, she often does all the projects the students do so they can watch and get advice, she always has a keen knack for knowing when something looks good and when it doesn't. She has skeletons around for anatomical purposes. And her classroom is always outfitted with art of many forms, and also poster of hard rock bands and she always has a stereo going with whatever happens to be on. She encourages students to bring in their CDs or iPods to plug in and listen to their own jams.
Rene is a down-to-earth girl but can seem a bit pompous sometimes because of her confidence. Deep down Rene really is a lady and cares about everybody, but it's deep down there. Rene isn't mean per say, but she is a goody-two-shoes either, and if a student asks if she's done anything illegal she'll admit she wasn't the perfectionist as a young adult. She finds her faults to be what keeps her from being 'a cookie-cut image' and she likes her own individuality. She never wants to be anything else but herself.

History
Rene grew up in the dark corners of New York City, she was born to her parents, Irwin and Mina, by accident. The two were not planning to have a child, but once they did they knew how great it was to have a kid. Rene was treated like the little baby, she was a bit spoiled but loved. She began singing when she was young, her mother being an actress and singer in musicals and stage performances. her father developed her love of Jazz though, by taking her to a pub were he played the Sax with his Jazz group. She loved the spotlight but as she grew older her love of that light and singing began to fade. She had two other siblings and as her brother was still in her mother's tummy, Irwin got a divorce from Mina. Leaving Mina to take care of three children by herself. Mina got a standard job, leaving her love of theater behind. As the family slipped into poverty, Rene started liking art, it gave her a feeling of peace and control in a life were she had none.
Rene started showing her signs of being a meta-human when most kids do, around 11, she started having bad times with electronics. She should have horribly shocks from walking across a rug in socks. It got t the point were Rene would hide in her room painting because she was afraid of getting shocked again. The family dog, a Yorkie named 'Tan' was Rene best friend, but when her powers began to spring up like mushrooms, Tan didn't last very long. Like most curious 11 year old children, Rene wanted to explore what she could do, the weird things she could do. By accident she ended up killing Tan, electrocuting the poor animal to death. Of course the vet was unsure how it could have been fried like that, so it wasn't too long before a Hammel recruiter was asking Mrs. McKenlie to give up her daughter. Mrs. McKenlie was a bit reluctant. But the recruiter informed her that if Rene didn't get control of her power, it would get worse, and Tan wouldn't be the only thing to die in their house. Rene's powers could be devastating and horrific if the girl didn't learn to control them. Mrs. McKenlie had no choice, she needed her baby girl safe, and Hammel would do just that.
When Rene attended she found that she liked art even more. Dealing with her power was hard, she rebelled a lot from the school. Her training was difficult and she had a short-temper which made controlling her gifts hard, she felt like she got the short end of the stick. She went out after hours and began getting tattoos. She started showing off her own unique ideas of fashion, listened to a variety of music, sang in the choir and then began to paint on the everyday basis.
When she graduated from Hammel she took art classes at a local college, but she couldn't seem to find that one inspiration. So, she took a 3 year trip to Europe, spending most of her time in France. She became your typical 'starving artist.' But she liked how she lived. Once she found her light, she came back to the US and decided she needed to find a more... Stable life, a more stable job. But she wanted to do art as well. She wanted to teach art and show her talents to the world, and make other artists like her shine. She got a degree in education, art education really, then looked. Hammel contacted her, asking if she wouldn't mind filling the position. Of course she agreed, she could help lots of kids that way. Since meta-human teens are already unhappy, and artists take even more pressure, she knew she could help and relate to kids who she knew were like her. Special, gifted, different kids, with art talents just like her.
