[/color] Marcus, Demitre, Hawthorne
[color=0
A1B2A]Name:
Nicknames: Elmer, Glue-Stick, Post-It, Kermy (only Elaine), and he calls Elain Snuffy as in snuffleupagus.
Age: 46
Orientation: Heterosexual
Desired Rank/Job: Husband/ Physic’s Teacher at Hammel
Powers: Tactile Adhesiveness. Marcus can emit a chemical compound from his sweat pores that makes him sticky. He can cling to walls, climb vertical surfaces, or hang from ceilings. Unfortunately, this also means portable objects stick to him- pens, pots, pans, spatulas have a nasty habit remaining in his hands at the least opportune moments. And let’s not ever talk about paper products.
This adhesive gel evaporates once it leaves his skin in a matter of seconds, and has a force release threshold of about 200 lbs. Because of the evaporative nature of the gel, Marcus can’t remain motionless on a wall or ceiling for more than a couple seconds.

The Details
Hair Color: Brown Fading to Gray
Eye Color: Blue-Gray
Any Piercings? None
Any Tattoos? None
Any Scars? None
General Appearance: Lazy is the vibe Marcus gives off from his appearance. From his wrinkled suit jackets, typically unshaven face, to his disheveled hair, a first impression would lead a person to think that he’s just plain lazy. That would be a gross misconception. Marcus isn’t lazy about his appearance, he just has the uncanny knack of being unable to focus on a single task long enough to finish it. That being said, when he does expend the effort to clean up, Marcus looks very handsome and (almost) respectable (but there’s invariably a button undone or some part of his outfit missing). He stands at about 6 feet and is slightly overweight. Marcus never exercised, instead relying on his fast metabolism that has since slowed. His strong attachment to cheap American beer (read Bud-light with lime) shows in his midriff.
Personality: Marcus is a typical flake. He is charismatic, kind, humorous enough to fascinate people and become a friend, but he doesn’t have the drive and conviction to follow through on his promises or the mindset to keep track of dates. It doesn’t help that Marcus avoids emotional situations like the plague. When given the option between right and wrong, Marcus bases his decision on whatever is easier and requires less personal risk. Marcus isn’t amoral or evil, he is afraid of responsibility. His roguish grin and smile have melted hearts and gotten him even more free meals.

History
Marcus Demitry Hawthorne was borne to a military family rooted in traditions and responsibilities. As a child his father ruled the house with an iron fist and military doctrine. His mother did her best to coddle the young boy and give him a normal childhood. When Marcus was sent to Hammel as a youth, he escaped from his father’s driving rules and responsibilities at a time when he was discovering how to rebel. He did so in spades, almost failing out of Hammel and barely graduating with the minimum GPA.
Just prior to his graduation, Marcus met a young Elaine and was smitten. During the summer after his graduation his emotions grew for the young woman (for she was a woman, in his eyes she was wise beyond her years even then). One summer night he pulled out all of the romantic stops: flowers, Cyndi Lauper, moonlit dancing, and dinner by the fireplace; and the young couple decided to take their relationship to the next step. He’d known about his allergies to latex, and told Elain he’d gone to the clinic earlier in the week for a special spermicidal treatment (which he actually forgot to go to) and Elaine became pregnant. Upon learning this, Marcus skipped town the next day in true fashion without a word to Elaine.
When he left Pilot Ridge and abandoned Elaine and her child, Marcus traveled the world on his father’s money as a rapscallion, passing on his charm and good looks when daddy’s money wasn’t forked over. He started and failed several business ventures, and eventually settled down in Montana. While he was there he met Elizabeth Courts, a born and raised Montana farm-girl and started a relationship with her when he was thirty. She died from lung cancer less than a year into their marriage.
Elizabeth’s death shocked Marcus out of his whimsical delirium just long enough for him to realize that he’d done nothing with his life over the past thirty years and wanted to set things right with Elaine. He attended community college and eventually worked his way up to a Master’s in Physics. (He didn’t finish his doctoral thesis.)
He’s returned to Hammel to get a position as a teacher and hopes to find some clue of what happened to Elaine and his child. Marcus knows that he doesn’t have a place in his child’s life, but he wants to meet him or her as a man or woman and know them as a person since he failed as a father, husband and dad. *cue gasps of shock and awe*
Roleplay Example
So…what now? Marcus thought to himself as he stepped into the terminal in the Newport Airport. I can’t believe I’m doing this. He situated the backpack on his shoulder and rolled the suitcase against his leg. His hand back through his disheveled hair and caught for a second as the sweat from his palms attached to the graying strands. He’d always found airports comforting because of the anonymity they provided. Here, he wasn’t a derelict deadbeat father that abandoned the woman he loved. He wasn’t the son of a rich politician. He was just Marcus, another person going places for the Holidays. His six foot frame was lost in the streaming foot traffic of people deboarding.
“Sir, I’m going to have to ask you to move. You’re blocking the exit.” Well maybe not all that anonymous.
“Oh, I’m-I’m sorry. He slapped his hand onto the side of the suitcase, clapped the other hand onto his fedora and moved out of the stream of people in an awkward lump of limbs and baggage.
In every other airport he’d been in over the past several decades, he’d felt calm. Every single one except this one. This airport reminded him of who he was and what he’d run away from. He pulled the suit jacket closed and tipped down his hat and hesitated as his thoughts raced along what ifs of turning back down the boarding ramp and leaving Vermont. Nothing says I have to be here. No one is forcing me to do this. His hand tightened on the suitcase.
This was the hardest thing Marcus had ever done. He wasn’t running away from something. He was running straight towards it. Oh, that’s right. I said I have to do this.
