Shade hated school. Hammel, in a matter of days, had turned her previous dislike into a strong, burning hatred. It wasn't anything to do with the social aspects of it, though she couldn't say she loved those. Being crammed into a room with twenty people she didn't know wasn't exactly her idea of fun. What got to her was that she knew nothing. She'd been placed in low level classes for an individual of her age, considering she should have been graduating that year or at least the next, but it still wasn't enough. Coming in the middle of the year wasn't helping her much. She knew nothing of a very scholarly nature.
It was the end of the day, a blessing if such things existed, and Shade lagged behind the others to gather up her meager things. Coming prepared to class wasn't something she did well. She remembered what they were taught. She simply didn't understand most of it. Biology wasn't as embarrassing as English, but it was pretty darn bad. She would have been out of the classroom like a shot if the crowd around the door had been anything but thoroughly unappealing to her.
Shoving her notebook into her ratty backpack with more force than was necessary, Shade started to shuffle towards the door, keeping her eyes and their lack of whites fixed on the ground. She saw everything out of the corners of her vision, making her a touch jumpy, but looking at people felt unnecessary to her. Half of them would take it as threatening, which was dangerous unless she actually wanted to threaten them, and the other half would think her either odd or want to talk to her. All in all, she just wanted to get out of the classroom alive and without catching the attention of their crazy biology teacher.
