... Can't see me.

When Jenni was a little younger, she had believed that if she couldn't see anyone, that no body could see her. She only wished that was the case with hearing. Though how Jenni could stop herself from hearing something when it went straight into her head rather then through her ears, she did not know. So she did the next best thing though, when it all became too noisy.

She fled.

The Gym wasn't the first place Jenni would choose to go. She didn't hate sport, she just didn't love it either. But it was the first empty place she could find, and empty meant quiet. The thirteen year old sat on a bench, and placed her head on her her knee's. The headache was already building, but it wasn't at head splitting strength yet. She sighed, sitting up, the one problem with needing peace and quiet, was boredom. Now Jenni had no one to talk to. But then she was in a gym...

Smiling slightly, Jenni jogged to the store closest, and grabbed a basket ball, she used to play with her dad, just not very well. She bounced the ball a couple of times, and then tried to dribble it up the court. She had a little success, and when she reached the hoop, she aimed and watched as the ball bounced of the back board. Laughing happily, she chased it as it escaped to the other side of the gym.

Oh, gym. While it was the bane of many kids’ existences, Gerri reveled in the time she got to spend there. Although her favorite sport, soccer, consisted of being outside on a field, she still enjoyed playing other sports. Even the indoor ones. To be frank, she lived on sports and didn’t really care what she was playing as long as it involved lots of movement. It was on hot summer days that she appreciated the fact that Hammel had a gymnasium, because while it was deadly for the teen to run around in the heat, she could still play indoors.

It was to the gym that she headed now, already dressed in her usual athletic attire. She wore nothing special—just a soccer jersey, shorts, and tennis shoes—but it was what she wore whenever she exercised, which was practically every day for at least a few hours (please note that she doesn’t wear the same exact thing, just the same exact type of items, and she washes her outfits frequently). In any case, she was ready to play.

Not surprisingly the place was pretty empty. Few students willingly came to this place after hours, and even fewer came to do anything sports-related. That wasn’t necessarily a good thing, seeing as it was absolutely capitol BOR capitol ING to play by oneself. Gerri smiled when she realized that she wasn’t alone, and there was a girl on the opposite side of the gym chasing after a basketball. A playmate! Yay!

“Hello-oh!” She shouted, the greeting echoing slightly in the large, empty room. She ran closer to the girl, stopping about half-way across the court, her smile broadening into a ridiculously wide grin. “Mind if I join yah?”

Jenni had caught up with the ball and scooped it up. Not letting her miss deter her, Jenni did another half-dribble up the court. She managed to loose the ball a few more times in process, but she just laughed and grabbed hold of it again. She reached the shooting area again, took aim, and "Score!" Jenni leapt into the air, cheering.

She was doing a lap of honor when another girl entered the gym. She didn't resent to company, oh contraire, she was happy for it. Only moments ago, she was taking note of the fact being on your own was pretty boring. With this in mind, Jenni jogged closer to the girl, a grin on her face. "Sure!" she said, throwing the ball to her. She pretended to dodge her way up the court, giggling slightly.

Unlike her companion, Jenni was not wearing what one would call gymnasium attire. The tee-shirt was OK, but the jeans? Hardly comfortable when running around. Luckily for her, this didn't bother her all that much. Later they would, but for now... well, she was having too much fun. She did take note of what the other girl was wearing, and decided maybe she should carry similar clothes for future gym possibilities.

"My name's Jenni" she telepath offered in a half shout from across the court. Though she had headache, sound heard through her ears didn't particularly bother her, nor did the light, for the moment. But as more and more thoughts entered, the worse it got, until she feared to move it in case it exploded or something.

The fact that this other girl was wearing casual attire instead of the athletic getup you might expect of someone in the gym didn’t bother Gerri. She hardly noticed, if fact, being that she was more focused on getting to play basketball than anything else. Catching the ball as it was passed to her, she started to dribble towards the hoop, giggling along as the other dodged around.

“I’m Germaine Annika Sharpe, but you can call me Anni,” she called back in her usual long introductory way. Then she maneuvered closer to hoop, pretending there were other opponents that she had to get around. She imagined it was the fourth quarter of a state championship game, and the clock was ticking down to zero. They were just one point behind. If she made this basket, they would win and go to nationals. The whole team was depending on her.

She shot…and missed.

The ball just barely tipped the edge of the rim, ricocheting off to the side. “Aww,” she cooed, slightly disappointed. “I guess I’ve gotten rusty.” That wouldn’t keep her down, though. Gerri snatched up the ball and checked it to the other girl. She smirked, “Your turn.”

As they continued to play, Germaine eased into her normal nosey self. “So I guess you don’t play in here much. I mean, I haven’t seen you here afterschool before.” Even if she had, she had forgotten all about it.

"Nice to meet you Anni." Jenni said, smiling brightly. She watched as the girl dodging around imaginary people, and she laughed loudly, happy to have someone who would play imaginary game with her. She ran up to mark the girl, pretending to try and take the ball.
She whirled around to avoid another 'player', and then froze to watch as the ball arced towards the hoop. She help her breath in anticipation, but the ball hit the rim and bounced to the side.

"The crowd goes wild, The Jenni Team now has a chance to take the lead." Jenni commentated as she ran around the court with her arms in the air in celebration. She grinned at Anni, but then pulled a sympathetic face for her. "You still have a chance to beat me." Jenni replied, jogging toward's the other girl to lay a hand on her shoulder.

Jenni ran back to where she had been, and caught the ball clumsily, nearly dropping it. She saved it with the edge of her finger tips however, and then proceeded to play the game, imagining the crowds roar as she dribbled back up the court. It was slow going, as Jenni wasn't all that great at the game, but she didn't let that faze her in the slightest.

Jenni took aim, and let fly, watching it go wide. She groaned a little, but otherwise paid no heed to her miss. Oh well. Still a chance. Jenni 0-0 Anni. The game had just started.

Catching the ball from its rebound of the wall, Jenni paused to answer her question. "Um... not really. I only came in here to get away from all the thoughts." She said this as if it were a normal occurrence for people to escape thoughts. She simple assumed everyone knew what she was talking about. "Do you play lots? You're better then me." She added, as she threw the ball back to Anni.

Seeing Jenni travel around the court in her victory run made Anni grin. She nodded as the other girl put her hand on her shoulder. “Yep, and don’t think I can’t keep up!” She giggled back with a wink. The first shot was a miss, but she wasn’t going to let that get her down.

She clapped when Jenni caught the ball, even if it was a little on the clumsy side. “Nice catch!” she shouted in encouragement. It didn’t bother Anni that the going was slow for the other girl. She herself wasn’t well versed in the game of basketball, even if she did play it whenever the soccer field wasn’t an option.

Taking up the task of playing defense, she shuffled around Jenni and waved her hands in the air with little thought as to how she might actually block a shot. Anni’s eyes stayed glued to the ball as she watched it soared over her head and miss the basket. She looked back at the other thirteen-year-old with a smirk. “Told you I’d keep up.” It wasn’t so much her keeping up as Jenni staying behind, but whatever. It meant that they were still tied anyway.

“Thoughts?” she inquired while catching the ball. “You must be telepic then?” Germaine wasn’t a very clever person, but she had been at Hammel long enough to know that some people had the ability to read thoughts, and they were called telepaths. “I’m not. I can generate acid, though. Through my fingers,” she rambled, instead of answering the other girl’s question. Balancing the ball on her left hand, she held up her right and wiggled her digits. “Just the tips, though, not, like, along the whole thing. But you don’t have to worry about getting acid on you ‘cause I’m very careful,” she continued with a giggle.

Oh, right. They were supposed to be playing basketball. She began to dribble back towards the hoop, speaking as she went, “I don’t play lots, but more than most people.”

Jenni tilted her head to one side and regarded the girl. "I think you will win." she said very seriously. She didn't mind though, it was nice to have someone to play a game with in peace, she didn't mind loosing, so long as Anni stayed friends with her.

She grinned her thanks at the other girl, glad to have hung on to the ball. "Catching is my middle name!" she sang, doing a little twirl in her excitement. Of course, catching wasn't really her middle name, her middle name was Marie, but she didn't think Anni would take her seriously anyway. Unless of course, for some reason she thought Jenni was telling the truth, then she would take her seriously. Jenni shook her head to clear away the confusing the thoughts.

"Only 'cause I missed." Jenni replied smiling. She was only teasing, and hoped her new friend would take it as such. But then, you never knew with new people.

Jenni shrugged, not really caring about the correct name for her powers. "I can read minds sometimes." was all she said. It seemed that the girl hadn't spoken about anything other then her power lately, and she was getting sick of explaining it all the time. She hoped Anni wouldn't ask any more questions about her powers. "Thats cool, I guess." the Telepath mused, "Just as long as you don't acid me." She ginned. She didn't really know what acid did to someone, but she guessed it hurt. A lot. Mainly because Anni had promised not to get any on her.

Jenni giggled at her, "I used to play with my dad sometimes." she said, marking the other girl as she dribbled the ball. She hopped up and down in front of an imaginary opponent. She loved imagining things, and mixing imaginary with real life was the best fun ever.

She shot the other girl a cocky grin. “Would yah bet on it?” she challenged in a less-than-encouraging way. Anni was stuck in competitive mode, and she wasn’t being as mindful of anyone else’s feelings as she should have been. The outcome of the game didn’t really matter. She definitely considered Jenni friend already—her willingness to play secured that—and Gerri was always looking to add people to her social network.

Unfortunately, Anni was thick enough to take Jenni’s comment seriously. Catching is a weird name, she commented to herself. Her play paused momentarily as she pondered the circumstances of naming a kid with a verb, but she inevitably shrugged it off and resumed her defensive maneuvers.

Gerri graciously took the answer as an affirmative, grinning when her own power was complimented. “Thanks, and don’t worry. I won’t acid nobody.” She reiterated. She never hurt anyone with her power before, and she didn’t want to start now. Although admittedly, she didn’t know what acid did to other people (despite her frequently telling people she could probably melt someone’s face off, which mostly happened when she got that competitive itch), but she was told it wouldn’t be pretty. It also didn’t sound like a very good way to make friends.

“Oh! Fun!” she said gleefully. In her opinion, the only thing better than getting to play with friends was getting to play with family. When was the last time I played a game with my dad? She asked herself. The thought made her slightly homesick.

With a wink she smirked at the other girl and sped off to the foul shot line. Lining up with the hoop, she made the basket easily, and jumped in celebration with her arms above her head. “I scored!” she shouted, giggling as she spun around to face Jenni. “Guess who’s in the leeeeeeaaad.” The taunt was meant to be harmless boasting, dragged out in a song.
