A Different Aspect

She'd already said her final goodbyes, sealed with a kiss upon a gloved hand, from both her lips to their hands and vice versa. The fact that she couldn't even embrace her family without going into a mental whirlwind was tearing her apart, especially now. Sure, she knew that this was indeed a place where she could thrive, where she wouldn't necessarily treated like a freak or a test subject, but she still felt completely out of place. It was shallow and quite naive to think that she would get along with all of these people just because they all had unique abilities that separated them from the rest of the general American population. Their personalities should be what they define them, not their abilities, per se.
But then what was she doing? She was leaning on this crutch with remorse, this crutch that she found out would never go away. She had to give up friendships, any chance of a real relationship with a partner, no more first kisses on the front porch when he dropped her off at the end of the night, no more holding hand. She couldn't hug her friends if skin touched skin, and no signs of endearment could be shown to anyone she cared about without her flashing into a flurry of past memories. Taking this away from anyone would obviously get them down and dampen the mood. She had always been a physical person, in that given aspect, and now all was flipping over on top of her, her life turned sideways. But she wasn't following her own advice, and instead was letting this .. ability control her, she was not controlling it. But then again, that's what the man who found her had told her she was going to do here. After he had given the family his nice and rather convincing speech on Hammel, he had told Anna on the car ride down that this school wasn't just for 'normal' academic classes and clubs, but there were to be special courses where she'd learn how to control her abilities. She'd even been told that her skills closely matched one other student at the school. "Well, that would be a start," she had thought.
But now she was here, sitting on her bed, one of four in the room, although hers was the only one occupied. She'd never lived anywhere outside of her own home, and now she was miles and miles away from everything she knew, thrust into this new environment, and she'd yet to even meet the people she'd be spending quite a long time with. Anna could only hope that they were kind. She was more along the lines of sensitive, especially now, and introverted. If they were extroverts, maybe they'd squeeze something out of her, but her main concern was if they were going to accept her into the dormitory. She could only hope.
Night appeared outside of the window, the moon high in the sky and shining in through the window. She must get up, and make herself comfortable in her new living conditions. Annabelle hadn't the slightest clue how long she'd be staying at Hammel, but she knew this was the first step at trying to get accustomed to the new life.
