Niko loved to see things in a natural restful state and things in constant, predictable motion. The watery surface of the pond was no different, and since he seemed to be the only one interested in the pond at that precise moment, he found himself transfixed by it's unchanged surface. It seemed to relieve him, to relax him. That certainly would not do for long! So Niko grinned, the moment lost.
Now it was time for a new game. Niko decided that he was going to build a makeshift toy boat, and after looking around for things to use, he raced off only to return to the pond a few minutes later with a twig, a rather large leaf, and a handful of grass. He began by tying the grass together, but that was soon abandoned when the grass kept breaking. Niko's enthusiasm disappeared in an instant at the realization. Plan B was next implemented as Niko ended up setting the leaf in the water, then placing the grass on top of it, just so it could float. Sometimes improvisations were okay. In order to get closer and to be able to reach the now drifting leaf/boat of his, he laid down at the water's edge, oblivious to the moisture that clung to his skin and was absorbed by his clothes.
It was as Niko was laying there that he first noticed the movement. Something. . .He leaned closer to the water, forgetting about the leaf. There was another movement, and then a fish appeared at the surface. Niko screamed in fright, quickly attempting to push himself up and away, only to have his hands slip on the wet surface. He ended up with his head in the water for a few seconds before he managed to sit up, sputtering as if he'd got too much of the water in his mouth. The water itself did not bother him, not at all. The fish? He was eying the pond pretty suspiciously now, so it was fair to say he wasn't a fan. As the water began to fall from his hair down to his eyes, Niko shook his head as an animal might, ruffling up his hair, but also shaking away excess water.
Niko wasn't dressed in anything he wasn't ready to pull off and never wear again, given he couldn't get the pond smell out. He was just wearing a navy and yellow striped polo shirt with a pair of jeans- the jeans were light in color, and it was evident that they drug on the ground by the way the material was torn up at his heels. His hair had been brushed and he had put gel his foster mother had packed, but it wasn't a stretch to say that he couldn't apply the gel nearly as masterfully as Miss. Bri could. He tried, anyway. And had he come to the realization in that moment that the effort he'd put into gelling his hair was for nothing, he may have been upset. As it was, he was blissfully unaware. Not that it would have changed much- he had bigger fish to fry, as it were.
"Dumb fish,"Niko scolded in much the same way that he'd been scolded all too many times before."I didn't want to get wet, and you scared me!" The way he was speaking wasn't really proof he was crazy. In fact, he was trying to justify his annoyance."And when you want to be friends, I'll say no way. And when you're sad, I won't care." Niko continued to watch the water, but he seemed done speaking- at least for now.
