The Basics

Name: Ruth Nicole Edwards
Nicknames: Ruthie
Age: 16
Orientation: Homosexual (she’s in the process of discovering this)
Desired Rank/Job: Student
Powers: Super speed: Ruth is a speedster, but it’s not only running. Her power includes heightened mental and bodily functions such as reading and healing. However, she can’t control when her power is active. When it is active, she’s a super spaz. When it isn’t active, she’s pretty much just like a normal human. Not being able to control this is highly inconvenient and often leads to Ruth running into walls and such. If she’s injured while her power is active, she heals very quickly (though not instantaneously). She heals faster than normal when her power isn’t active, but not fast enough to draw attention. Also, super speed makes her perpetually hungry.

The Details
Hair Color:Ginger
Eye Color:Hazel
Any Piercings?Ears
Any Tattoos?No
Any Scars?Various scars from super speed injuries
General Appearance: Ruth is about 5’7”, but is fairly petite. She likes to wear all sorts of different colors, but often picks darker ones. She wears black Converse pretty much every day of the year, along with form-fitting leather or jean jackets to protect her arms from super speed injuries. She loves her red hair and isn’t afraid to dress in her own style, but she’s timid and doesn’t always look approachable. She doesn’t like to wear makeup because it reminds her of her mother and the life she left behind. Personality: Generally, Ruth is a reserved, but happy person. Usually when people meet Ruth they think, “Oh, what a nice girl,” and then forget about her entirely. She grew up learning that children should be seen and not heard, so she keeps pretty quiet. Except, when her power is active, whatever her present emotion is becomes greatly magnified. If she’s happy, everyone knows it and the happiness spreads like a zombie virus. That’s usually the case, but if she’s upset, stay out of the way. She never means to hurt anyone. Even though she seems collected and reserved, Ruth is still trying to figure out who she wants to be and how to fit into the world around her. She is excessively fond of those people she does care about, but the pain in her past makes it hard for her to connect with people. Ruth is smart, but doesn’t try as hard she could in her classes, mostly because she resents the fact that she has no choice in attending Hammel (she’s tired of having everything determined for her).

History
Ruth was born into an old money New England family. As the only child, she was forced into many high society events and parties. She always resented the type of people her parents associated with (the country club snobs who poured their excess wealth into charities to make themselves feel better), but she learned not to speak her mind.
When she was fourteen, her parents hosted one of those black tie charity events that Ruth had always hated. Ruth and her escort arrived at the function before Peter and Katherine, who had gotten caught in traffic. After so many of these events, Ruth had become fairly comfortable with her role as wallflower, standing away from the crowd and only talking when absolutely necessary. But this time was different. There was a boy her age and Ruth suspected that her parents as well as his had been trying to push the two of them together for years. The uncouth teenager cornered her and made various attempts to win her affection, the ast of which was a very poorly planted and inexperienced kiss. Before this point, Ruth had begun to feel oddly hungry and slightly hyper. She was actually thinking of ways to get away from him and was distracted when he tried to kiss her. Without thinking, she punched him in the chest and ran as fast as she could, which was astonishingly faster than she had ever run before, but this didn’t occur to her at the time. Ruth ran all the way to her parents’ manor house, her newfound super speed aiding her considerably.
When she finally stopped running and finally reached her home, the only thing she could think of was food. She felt like she’d never been so hungry in all her life, so she made her way to the expansive kitchen, which she had only seen a few times before, and started eating anything and everything she could find. One of the servants she didn’t know very well (was it James, or maybe Richard?) found her there, her party dress ruined and food stained, and informed her with deepest regrets and condolences that on their way to the charity function, her parents had died in a car crash. She ran again, not knowing where, until the recruiters from Hammel found her. She has lived at Hammel for two years, both resigned to this life and resentful that she has no choice in the matter.
Roleplay Example
This is basically the same Ruth, but in a different universe.
Maggie was tinkering in her lab, Disney music playing in the background. She heard the sound of someone running. Running too fast. Shit. I forgot to shut the door. Ruth ran in, power tripping and happy. Her arms were tucked in near her chest and she pranced about the room.
“Maggie. Maggie! Maggie guess what!” Maggie grumbled under her breath, something about alternators and genomes.
“Maaaaaggie! Maggie Maggie Maggie guess what!!!”
“What?!” Maggie snapped. She didn’t like her work being interrupted.
Ruth stopped prancing for a split second and grinned broadly, then said in a sing-song voice, “I’m a pony!” and zoomed off.
Maggie sighed. I’ve really got to remember to shut the door next time. She started to move towards the door of her lab, but Estelle and Hazel rushed in the door before she reached it. Panting and exasperated, Estelle said, “Where’d she go?” Hazel grinned, enjoying the game. Maggie pointed, not looking up from her work.
“Thanks!” said Hazel, and the two of them hurried off after Ruth. Maggie sighed.
