The Basics
Name: Mary Anne Savage
Nicknames: She goes by Savage or Savvy
Age: 24
Orientation: Bisexual, but definitely prefers women to men.
Desired Rank/Job: Grounds maintenance. She’s not a janitor, more like the resident handiwoman.
Powers: Arachnid communication/control. It’s exactly what it sounds like – she can silently communicate with and control any arachnid. There is a side effect though: any animal she links to is permanently linked to her, so she feels it if that animal is scared or hurt, or if it dies. She tends to be very upset by sudden, unexpected, violent deaths. If one of the arachnids she’s connected with gets stomped, she will usually end up in a ball in the corner of her apartment crying. She has no problem with natural deaths, as they tend to happen slowly and she can prepare for them.

The Details
Hair Color: Naturally reddish brown, always dyed funny colors, though usually black.
Eye Color: Blue
Any Piercings? Yes. Lip and tongue.
Any Tattoos? Yes. Several on the arms, only.
Any Scars? No
General Appearance: The first thing people notice when looking at Savvy is that she’s wearing WAY too much makeup. The second thing they notice is that she looks too poor to be able to afford the tattoos she’s displaying on her arms, since she tends to wear pretty ratty clothes. The third thing they would notice is her chemical fried hair, whatever color it may be today. Savvy puts on the “tough girl” look, but anybody with a decent knowledge of psychology would realize she’s just begging for attention.
Her face is an odd assortment of features that somehow look good together. Her eyes are large and sunken with sleepy lids, her nose is small and china-doll like, and her lips seem to be too big for her face. This is exemplified by her love for lots of dark eye shadow and blood-red lipstick and the fact that she is almost always smiling or making weird faces. The smile is always a little manic, which pushes some people away from her and draws others in. Her hair is always in a state of disarray, partially because it’s so chemical burned and partially because she cuts it herself. (Cut is really too nice a term for what she does, hacks off chunks maybe?)
She definitely is not a skinny girl, though she isn’t “big” either. The best way to describe her would be curvy. She has a real hourglass shape, which she shows off with tight pants and cutoff shirts. She enjoys bright colors on black backgrounds because they draw attention to her.
Personality: Savvy’s main goal in life is to just have FUN. She’s got a bit of a “live fast, die young” mentality. She does what she wants, when she wants – unless it might hurt somebody else or interfere with her job. She is very loyal to Hammel and takes her job very seriously, or at least she will once she gets there. Though she would never openly admit it, she does have a soft spot for the “trouble” students at Hammel, seeing as she was one once too. She will act as a kind of unofficial therapist for those students, because she really understands what it is like to have a shitty life and she doesn’t want them to have to go through it alone like she did. If she notices a student who gets in trouble a lot or does a lot of bad stuff to get attention, she’ll take them under her wing and try to help them get through their problems, though in very unorthodox ways. Once she finds someone she believes needs help, she will never give up on them.
Savvy is not one to pussyfoot around sore topics, so she tends to be very blunt. If you ask her if those pants make you look fat, she'll tell you the truth, whether you like it or not. She is generally very open with people, and has no problems talking about subjects others might find awkward, like her past. (Well, most of it anyway. There's some stuff she keeps strictly to herself.) She is a tough girl, and if someone messes with her she will have no problem defending herself either verbally or physically. (She won't hit anyone on campus unless they REALLY push her!) Her main verbal defense is her cutting sarcasm, which she uses to hide any discomfort someone's comments cause her. If her words end up hurting someone else a lot and she finds out, she will feel really bad (unless she felt they truly deserved it) and will do anything in her power to make them feel better, as long as she can do it without admitting that she's doing it.
Oh, did I mention she’s a vegan? Ever since she began being able to communicate with animals, she just can’t bring herself to eat them. She’s felt the terror of being hunted for food from spiders or scorpions she accidentally linked to, and never wants to be the reason for any creature to feel like that. If somebody does hurt one of her arachnids and she finds out who it was, she will get EXTREMELY angry and it will take all of her self control to not punch them in the face, which she is REALLY good at. (She has an AWESOME right hook!)

History
Savvy grew up in a poor, rough neighborhood in the outskirts of Chicago. She had to learn to defend herself and make a reputation for being tough just to be able to survive. She always carried a knife on her, just to be safe. She does still, but that’s because she often needs to cut things while repairing stuff around Hammel. Like most people she knew, her parents were junkies. Her mom managed to quit meth long enough to not have an addicted baby, but that was about all her parents ever did for her or her sister. Both of her parents were very abusive both emotionally and physically to each other and to their daughters. To sum it up, it was bad.
When her sister turned 17 she moved out, and took Savvy with her. They lived in a small, rundown apartment with her boyfriend and whoever happened to be couch surfing at that particular moment. The one nice thing was that there was enough space for Savvy to have her own room. Unfortunately for her, Tiffany didn’t manage to get Savvy out of the hellish environment her parents put her through early enough to avoid any serious psychological damage. They are both pretty weird, and if one looked at a picture of Tiffany they could see where Savvy got her style.
Savvy was 12 when her powers manifested, and it took Hammel less than a week to find her. The seven years she spent there were the best years of her life, though she didn’t see it that way then. She felt as if she were trapped, as if nobody understood her. Which, in all reality, they didn’t, but only because she didn't let anyone close enough to do so. She left Hammel when she was 19 and went back to Chicago. She had almost forgotten how awful it was living in the slums. After moving back, it only took Savvy six months to become hooked on speed and cocaine. It was a downward spiral of drugs and abusive relationships from there.
She realized exactly how bad her life had gotten when one morning she woke up from dreaming about her life at Hammel to find blood on her pillow. That same day she went and checked herself into a rehab clinic, where she has lived for the past year and a half. They contacted Hammel right away when she got there, and, of course, Hammel helped out as well. Once she was clean, Savvy realized that she had been truly happy only once in her life: when she was in school. She’s mechanically inclined and when she applied for a grounds maintenance position she was hired right away. Though she is good at her job and really likes it, her main goal is to help other people like herself not follow the same destructive path she did.
