"Tell me about yourself. Start from the beginning."
"Fine. I'll go back as far as I remember. I was born to a couple of hippies somewhere in the Mojave Desert. From the beginning, they tried their best to teach me about peace and love, but somewhere down the line, they really fucked up. I won't get into that now. Anyway, I was their little princess. They put flowers in my hair and made me wear pretty little dresses. It never felt right. I grew out of that shit in a flash. I was the little girl who always beat up the little boys who tried to pick on me, which always got me in trouble. To sum it all up, I was a bad girl."
"So, is my assumption that you didn't have the greatest relationship with your parents correct?"
"Mmhmm. That's right. They ended up sending me to an alternative school that was ran like a military boot camp by the time I was a teen. I got my ass kicked almost everyday with the constant physical training and the bullies. Those boys were vicious, but in a few short months, I became worse. I was no longer known as that girl they could beat up on. I turned into the bitch that would fuck anyone up if they messed with me. For example, I took one boy into a bathroom, beat the shit out of him, and then tied him to the toilet."
"You got in trouble for that, right?"
"Hell yeah! I spent a fair amount of time in jail for it. My parents refused to bail me out, so I had no choice but to do my time. For a while, it looked as if I would be another troubled youth who would end up on the streets, but I turned my life around. I did what I had to do to get my GED and got a few jobs here and there. I spent my money on tattoos mainly. I've got a good bit of them, including a big Bengal Tiger on my lower back. It's my pride and joy. I also have a few tribal tattoos here and there along with a Buddhist Pali prayer written in Khmer script on my left shoulder blade."
"What was the next step in your life?"
"Once things were steady, I decided to join the military. There wasn't much of a need for women to be in direct combat at the time, but I still went through the training and was put in the reserves. I was thinking about being a police officer or something like that, but I quickly realized that it wouldn't be my cup of tea. I applied for my first security job at a large company. They were a bit hesitant at first, but with a little convincing, I managed to get hired. I've handled my fair share of thieves and irate visitors at that place, but I wanted to do something a little more exciting. I wanted to be a bouncer. Getting paid to bust some heads just seemed like an amazing way to live in my opinion."
"Was any bar or club willing to hire you?"
"No, not at first. I had to prove myself to get hired, which I did. Those were some of the best days of my life. The surprise on the faces of various large drunk men when I opened a can of whoop ass on them and kicked them to the curb pleasured me more than anything. It was fucking amazing! I was even given the code name 'Pocahontas' because of my Native American heritage and name. If anyone heard an employee call for Pocahontas, they knew someone was about to get kicked out. Sadly, my boss ended up firing me because people began walking in and challenging me. They didn't believe that a girl like myself could kick some ass. My boss also didn't want his bar to be known as the one with the female bouncer. Somehow, the idea wasn't very appealing to him. Oh well."
"Then what?"
"I moved to New York City. Sure, it's not the best place to live considering all the crime and shit like that, but I knew there were plenty of job opportunities there and a good bit of money to be made because of it. I learned a wide variety of martial arts during my stay. I could basically slap my military training, past jobs, and newly acquired martial arts training on a résumé and get any job in security I wanted. I felt like I had it made. Fighting's a vital part of my life, I guess. Many years later, I was discovered by a recruiter for the Hammel Institute after accidentally creating a decent sized sinkhole in the middle of a street and began working security there. They were in need of someone with my abilities to keep all the little kiddos safe. Plus, I needed some help preventing any future accidents from occurring."
"Oh, so you are a meta-human. Tell me about your power."
"It all started around the age of 11 or 12. I got these massive, aggravating migraines that annoyed the shit out of me. Coupled with Mother Nature's monthly gifts, I became one bitchy kid. That probably why I was such a bad kid. Anyway, one day I decided to ditch my parents, who were being stubborn assholes, and took a walk in the desert, not too far from my house. I was basically in the middle of nowhere, venting about typical preteen drama and parental disgust. Before I knew it, the ground was cracking apart and shaking around me. I thought it was an earthquake, so I ran home as fast as I could. When I got there, my parents looked at me like I was stupid. I quickly figured out that the ground shaking only happened where I was. It was an isolated event that only I knew about."
"Did you do a little investigating?"
"Yeah. The next day, I went to the same exact spot and nothing happened. I didn't worry about it too much after that, until it happened again a few days later. Then it clicked, the shaking ground happened both times when I was pissed off. It kind of freaked me out, but the more it happened, the cooler I thought it was. I spent more time in the privacy and secrecy of the desert than I did my house sometimes. First, I tried turning it on and off, and once I mastered that, I moved on to different things. I could control the ground beneath me and do a lot of amazing things with it. I got pretty good at it, but my time was cut short when I was sent to the alternative school. That was pretty much the end of the free run with my powers. I scarcely used it after that."
"How do you like Hammel so far?"
"So far, I like it a lot. I've been messing around with my powers again, which feel great. My job has been pretty easy so far. I haven't had to deal with anything crazy or outrageous yet (knock on wood). My favorite part of the job is intimidating the students. I love the smell of fear in the morning. I always tell them that if I catch anyone with any illegal substances on campus, I will break them. Of course I'd never harm an innocent student, mainly because I don't want to lose my job, but intimidation is just too fun to pass up."Behind the M A S K . . .Name: Tyler
