Mom: That lazy kid really needs to get out and do something for once! He's always just sitting at that desk on his computer typing! I tried reading it once and it was nothing but jibberish. I asked him about it, and do you know what he said? 'It's programming mom! I'll make lots of money doing this!' The nerve of that kid. He's gonna get a crude awakening when he finds out how common his so-called talent is.
Dad: Well, yeah but have you seen some of the stuff he's done when it was competed? I mean, sure, it might not look like much when it's all text like that, but when it's actually done, it always does things I haven't seen someone his age do. He really does have talent. Maybe we should give our son a chance.
Mom: You know, it's just like you to defend him like that. I should have known better than to talk to you. You teach this stuff for crying out loud! Of course you think he's got talent, you've always coddled him. He needs to get a paper route or something to get him off his lazy butt!
Dad: Alright, alright. I'll talk to him about it.
Mom: Da** Right, you will! I will not have another lazy, good for nothing who never actually does something constructive around this house! When was the last time you did something active, hm? At least we know where he gets it from. Maybe if he had a brother or sister to play with, we wouldn't be having this conversation! You've done nothing but coddle and spoil him.
Dad: Now, that might be going a little too far.
Mom: Too far, nothing! You are the one who got him into all this technology, now it's your job to get him out.
Dad: I said I would talk to him, but he is going through a really awkward stage in his life. You could cut him a little slack...
Mom: I don't care! He needs to grow up! I'm going to the store.
Dad: Alright. Have a safe... [Door Slams] Trip... I wonder why she's in such a bad mood...
Midori: Hello. Um, my name is Midori Hawkins. I'm a recruiter for the Hammel
Dad: A pleasure to meet you, but I don't think we would be interested.
Midori: Um, I'm sorry, but it's not really a choice... Hammel is a school for meta human teenagers.
Dad: I'm afraid I don't quite know what you are talking about. Our son isn't a metahuman. He's just an ordinary kid.
Midori: He was flagged on our system as a potential meta human. May I please come in? We can talk about it.
Dad: If only to clear up this matter, yes. As his father, I would think I would know if he was a meta-human. He's never hid anything from me, afterall.
Midori: Sometimes the kids are afraid of their own powers. I was. And with the stigma placed on meta humans in the media, it's not surprising. But I can do a simple test, to show if he is or isn't.
Dad: Well, I don't think he would react like that... What kind of test are we talking about, anyway?
Midori: A very simple, quick blood test.
Dad: Alright, well I suppose you will need him for that, won't you? He's in his room. What makes you think he is a meta-human anyway?
Midori: We have a system. Doctors, teachers, that are trained to recognize budding metahumans. He would have done something to be noticed, I'm sure.
Dad: Well, I do hope you are good at explaining things...
And this is how I found out I am a metahuman. I was being forced to move away to this school somewhere out east, losing all my friends and my life as I know it. All this because some machine said my blood is weird or something. Mom took it kinda hard. Even though she was always saying I had to do this better, or I was doing that wrong, she put up more of a fight to me leaving than I ever could have imagined. As my dad does in every situation, he just caved in. Now, a new chapter in my life is starting. One in Vermont. I can already tell things are gonna actually get interesting for a change.

Some days, you just want to go back to bed and wait for the next day to start. This was definitely one of those days for Jeremey. Of course, he was too stubborn to admit defeat and go to bed! Sure, he was late for class again. Sure, he was still having trouble finding a place to fit in, but he wasn't going to give in! His life was finally interesting! He was always wondering why he was so tired but he neglected to admit it could be because he spent almost all of his spare time in a training room.
He was breathing heavy, his legs felt like lead weights and he couldn't feel his right arm. Yep... Maybe he was going too far again. Clenching his right fist yet again, he tried to focus on his hand and concentrate as much electricity as he could to it. "One more..." And he fell face forward onto the floor, sprawled out and eyes closed. He did it again. If only I wasn't so hungry! He thought to himself as his stomach grumbled. My stomach will be the death of me yet...
His eyes closed, figuring he would just let them rest for a moment while he caught his breath. Of course, that thought only lasted for the next few seconds afterwards before he went off to dreamland. He didn't snore, or anything else so obvious. Instead, the only way you could tell the stubborn kid was alive was by the slow rise and fall of his chest as he breathed.
