Also meets Clarisse Prideaux: is quickly smitten, but makes an excellent first impression between his knowledge of French and a bit of sleight-of-hand, placing a rosebud in her hair with the quote: “An American Beauty, for her French counterpart.” Also meets a drunken Darryl, who informs Clarisse he is father to Midori’s baby. Dalton reassures Clarisse that this emotional scene has not dulled his interest in her, and offers to escort her home.
