The Basics
Name: Tobias ~~~~~ Xenos
Nicknames: Toby
Age:13
Orientation: Doesn’t like to identify
Desired Rank/Job: Student
Powers: Biological Manipulation, specifically Toby can find disease and injury and heal it. In a way he takes the ailment and brings it into himself through physical contact. It isn’t a quick process and requires completely silence. He has to be touching the person and he has found that he cannot heal himself. Often Toby is very sore or feels the symptoms of people for a few hours after he heals them, like if he heals a broken arm for the next few hours he will feel like his arm his broken, or if he heals someone with a stomach problem he will be in bed for hours. He also can’t take any pain medication very much, as it often knocks him out of long periods of time, which is alright for the times when he is going to be in agony anyways but it leaves him muddle headed and he doesn’t like taking it. His power only works in humans, he can identify and manipulate the injury or illness to heal the person but the ailment has to go somewhere, and while the actually illness and injury has never taken hold in him he has become very ill with symptoms.

The Details
Hair Color: Blackish-brown
Eye Color: Dark brown
Any Piercings? No
Any Tattoos? No
Any Scars? A strange and small line that goes in a tiny wave down his wrist.
General Appearance: Toby is slight and a lot smaller than a lot of people his age, only about five foot currently. He just hasn’t reached his growth spurt yet, woefully probably won’t get much taller. He is very skinny though he inhales food like it was going out of style. He was tan, even though he spends most of his time indoors, his hair was always kept short and messy. More because he was used to cutting it himself and it was odd being able to have someone else be able to take care of it. But none the less, his hair has never behaved itself.
His eyes are dark and he likes it that way. He is good at hiding his expressions because the darkness makes his eyes harder to read, at least in his opinion. He dresses relatively neatly. He likes jeans more than anything else and likes t-shirts. The one item of clothing almost always with him is this old ratty jacket that he loves to death. It used to be black but now has adopted a gray and almost green color. It’s still a little too big for him but he always thinks he’ll grow into it. Toby loves sneakers, the ones that are knock offs of converse and such, but tennis shoes also get his attention. He likes how nice they look.
Toby is rarely seen without a smile on his face, it isn’t hard to see why but that is sometimes a façade when he is having nightmares. He is very self conscious about his round baby face. He has a hard time staying serious and not at least having some form of emotion showing on his face. Toby isn’t a very strong person but he his quick with his hands and on his feet but when it comes to feats of strength he might as well have twigs for arms.
Personality:Toby is a very curious child. He thirsts for knowledge and loved his power. He wishes he could use it more than he is able to. He doesn’t think a lot of himself in a lot of situations but rather thinks about others discomfort. He is able to hide his emotions very well but yet always seems either melancholy or overly happy. He also zones out a lot. Sometimes just from being deep in thought or imagination but occasionally he is paralyzed with a terrifying flashback or a shadowed memory. He is absolutely terrified of the thought that he might lose his memory again, he loves the life he has now and change terrifies him.
Toby is a very active lad, he is always doing something. He’s not one to have idle hands. He’s bold but at the same time very self conscious. He always needs verification that he isn’t doing anything wrong. He is pretty talkative but will fall silent at the mention or questions about his past but he generally gets angry instead. He has a lot of mood swings but does his best to hide them. His dreams haunt him sometimes so much he is afraid to sleep. He likes to get to know people but always has this internal fear that they will vanish one day. He is afraid to get close and place full trust into someone else’s hands. He is so used to being self sufficient that being taken care of isn’t something that he takes well.
Being shy isn’t one of Toby’s traits; he is outgoing and is very competitive. Toby isn’t used to the freedom that Hammel offers and often he needs extra verification that what he wants to do is allowed. He likes spending time in the nurse’s office and watching them work and helping out every once in a while. He is smart but he doesn’t rub it in because he’s pretty sure that other people are better than him at several other things. Also, he is very unfamiliar with technology for a teenager. He generally spends his time getting frustrated and yelling at it more than anything else.

History
No one can be sure of Tobias’ true origins. When he was 8 he woke up in the hospital in Ireland without a clue who he was. Not his age, not his name, not even where he came from. The doctor’s guessed age 8 and gave him a nondescript name for identification, U15. And his wake-up day became his birthday. The nurses and doctors were caught up in the mystery that the detective couldn’t even solve. The guess was that U15 was from either Greece or Russia because he could speak both languages, at least to some extent, but more Russian. Oddly though when he was upset he resorted to Greek. He absorbed English like a sponge and it took a matter of weeks for him to be able to speak with relative fluency. When no sign came that U15 was going to be claimed by anyone or remember anything about his past he was sent to live in an orphanage.
An old Greek woman ran the place, her name was Mrs. Portikianis but everyone just called her Mrs. Puffy, for she was swollen with food and always had a kind of puffy look about her. U15 at that point was asked what he would like to be called. After a while of thought, U15 was declared Tobias by Mrs. Puffy in that he was blessed and that God was good. When pressed about the name, Toby just said he liked it. Mrs. Puffy put up a good orphanage. She was not unkind. She just expected a lot and disciplined harshly. Toby and the other children ate most of their meals in the kitchen with the cook and spent most of the rest of their time cleaning and doing ‘volunteer’ work. Toby wasn’t happy but he wasn’t upset. Somehow this seemed like a step up to him. It was his first Halloween when the first signs of his former life reared their ugly heads. The kids all ran around with masks and when Toby saw them he just ran to a corner and could not stop screaming.
Mrs. Puffy took him to the doctor about it where the man terrorized him with masks and pressed him about his past. His name was Mr. Kesling. After a few weeks the man became fascinated with Toby’s memory. To Toby’s dismay he and his wife decided to adopt Toby when Mr. Kesling was called to work in California. So when Toby was 11 he was taken to America. He knew all about the land of opportunity and couldn’t help but be excited and started thinking a life with the Kesling’s wouldn’t be so bad. Mrs. Kesling was a wonderful woman and an even better mother, she defended Toby against her husband and often spent several hours with him not pressing him about his past. Unfortunately, Toby was too much stress between the two and leaving Toby with her cell phone number Mrs. Kesling left. Then he started going to school, he was the odd new kid. When teachers called roll as Tobias Kesling, he would correct them and tell them it was just Toby.
For a while it was terrible again. Toby felt betrayed, how could she leave him? He didn’t smile anymore. He didn’t go home, he threw himself into school, struggling with English and history. He joined track and became the star of the soccer team but he didn’t really like it. He just never wanted to go home. Mr. Kesling was always yelling at him for something, when his report card came home, or his clumsy fingers had dropped a plate. It was one of the nights he ran off into the darkness that a little silver cat meowed at him. He called it Zeke and it followed him back home and he begged Mr. Kesling to let him keep it, but Mr. Kesling refused, using the excuse that Toby as a terrible son couldn’t have the pleasures of a cat. But the cat was always there. Until it meowed at him in pain.
Toby was walking to school, when Mr. Kesling didn’t get up in time to take him. Zeke meowed in pain and Toby gasped in shock and sadness, it had gotten into a fight with another cat and was torn up pretty badly. He petted its head and cried. He was in shock. He didn’t know what to do and the cat was already gone by the time he had any mind to think about getting it to a vet. Unable to continue to school, Toby returned home to seek sympathy from his heartless adoptive father. The man yelled and even slapped Toby a few times for skipping school and sent Toby to his room without any meals. The next day at school someone teased him about his cat. Toby was furious and full of rage and struck the boy. Immediately filled with an undying disgust in himself and pain he reached out and felt the injury on the other boy. He felt it and took it away into himself he didn't know he felt the boy hit him and that was what he thought the pain came from. He was soon whisked away by the teacher and sent home early. He didn't want to go home and by the time he did arrive the school had called his father. Again he was sent to his room without meals. He was glad for the alone time to mourn Zeke. Toby cried alone for a few hours then late that night a knock came on the door.
He heard arguing downstairs then someone bellow for him. It was not his Mr. Kesling’s voice. Timidly he padded down the stairs. A tall and dark man looked at him with eyes made of stone. He told Toby to go pack his things. Toby was delighted. He dashed upstairs and packed the few things he had. A suitcase of his favorite clothes, a picture of himself with his friends at Mrs. Puffy’s, and without thinking he grabbed the old burned piece of rock. He never knew where he had gotten it but he had always had it. When he was little he used to just stare at it for hours at a time. He never told Mr. Kesling about it. He didn’t have much and it all fit into one suitcase. As he dragged it down the stairs after him the screaming had ceased and Mr. Kesling was sulking in the kitchen, drinking.
Only when they were safe in the car did Toby ask what this was all about. He was too excited to be out to think of anything else. Plus he had been tossed around all of his known life and so what was another change, hopefully this one for the better. Then man told him about Hammel and about his power. He didn’t completely believe the man until at a rest stop the man cut his hand and held it out to Toby. Toby looked at it for a moment then touched it, felt it and it was like there was a glow where the injury was and he fixed it. He spent the next hour in the car rubbing his hand like he had been cut, still unable to believe that he had done that. Toby felt very close and very grateful to the man after their near week on the road together. Upon entering Hammel he finally asked the man a favor. When he was enrolled officially in the office, he didn’t want to be known as Toby Kesling, but Tobias Xenos, no middle name. Mrs. Puffy used to call the orphans her little xenos, little strangers, so endearingly that the word stuck to him and he identified with it as he never had anything else. He was indeed a stranger in his own body.
But taking the name gave Toby a sense of freedom and in the couple of months he’s been at Hammel he has bloomed into a playful boy and has started acting as other little boys would. Though he sometimes does forget how old he is, considering his conscious life has only been about five years long. Toby has found an old love in Soccer, that he never really had. He always used it as an escape now it was for the pure fun of it. He lurks a lot in the health wing a lot, either just helping people or in a bed himself sleeping off the painkillers after he healed someone who got injured badly. He enjoys taking meals with the cooks and eats all the time. He is working hard in his classes and with his powers and most of the time he forgets he has no past. But sometimes there are those nightmares to remind him, but thankfully a busy day pushes it to the back of his mind.
Roleplay Example
”Where are you!?” There was a shouted name and Toby’s eyes snapped open; those were the most simple but the most terrifying words in his short life. He rolled out of bed and sighed as he looked at the clock and it showed another twenty minutes before he actually had to get up and get ready for class. He sighed and went to shower before pulling on a clean pair of jeans and shirt. He looked outside his window and felt the glass wondering how cold it was. Oh well, better safe than sorry. He pulled on his old jacket. It was one of those comfortable soft fabrics that was so old it was no longer its original color and fit him so well it was like getting a hug from an old friend.
He ruffled his hair to get it from being a short messy dark brown to be a slightly less messy dark brown. He trotted down the stairs and down to the dining hall to grab a quick bite before he had to make his way to class. Though he was in nearly remedial English and History he was in upper level math and science classes. He tripped a few times down the stairs in his weariness but nothing slowed his stride. Like any respectable young man he lived to eat and could put away a good amount of grub. He grinned at the cafeteria lady who ruffled his hair. The first time he had slipped into the kitchen he had nearly scared the living daylights out of here and it took her a full month to get it through Toby’s head that he was not to take his meals in the kitchen, though sometimes he just liked it better.
She asked him about his classes and about his power. He thought she liked him a lot, the way she smiled when he inhaled the food. He bid her farewell and went about his business. He was first to class as usual and took his seat that was close enough to the front to make him noticed but off to the side just enough to make him inconspicuous where the teacher wouldn’t be likely to call on him. He stretched and leaned back in his chair waiting for the rest of the class to arrive so this class could begin and end and he could get through the day and go to see his trainer.
