Germaine had always been a good athlete. So why, she wondered as she woke up that morning, did it hurt for her to lift her arms. They were stiff, as were her legs and back. It wasn’t fair.

But that was what she got for not listening to her coach. Again and again she had been told about the importance of stretching, and why they always had to do it at the beginning of each practice and game. Gerri would always abide by the coach's warnings in his presence to stay in his favor and to avoid having to run extra laps, and so she had never had any soreness problems during soccer season. Whenever she was practicing in her free time, however, the girl rarely did any preliminary stretching. Usually, she didn’t have any of the problems her coach warned about, thus she had never actually taken the warnings seriously.

Obviously, that was a mistake.

Deciding that the best course of action was to partake in an early morning workout (fight fire with fire, right?), she hopped out of bed and raided her dresser for her gym clothes. Germaine pulled off her PJs, and threw on her jersey and shorts. She picked out a vibrant pair of orange knee-high socks that totally clashed with the rest of her blue colored outfit, and then pulled her hair into a ponytail using an equally vibrant hair tie. As she laced up her tennis shoes, she noticed how atrocious she must have looked...but shrugged it off and skipped out the door to the gym. She was still satisfied with her choices.

As soon as she arrived, Gerri sat in the center of the gym and threw her legs out in front of her. This time she was going to do it right and stretch first rather than going straight into a game. It may have been a last ditch effort, considering there wasn't much she could do about her soreness anymore, but at least she could avoid being even more sore the next day. Besides, this workout was suppose to help.
