The French Mistake [Cat]

Rhett wasn't the best at reading yet. Thing was, when you've lived on the streets practically your whole life, you don't get to learn to read much. Just basics here and there, but that's about it, so entering a high school from one moment to the next one was like receiving a crash course on pretty much it. Thankfully, he did learn to read and write pretty fast, at least in French, anyway. English was a little bit different and it had been taking some time. Since he entered Hammel, he were thankful that most copies of the books they were using on class had a French translation and today was one of those days he had to look for a translated copy of his literature class book.

"Merde..." He said softly after checking the library's computer to see if there was a french copy of it. "Now what am I to do?" He softly punched the desk and got up quickly yo attempt to search the librarian, maybe he could be of help. "There's no one at the desk... NOW what..." He sighed. "Why am I talking to myself anyway?"

Cat was walking around the library picking up the books that people had forgotten to place back where they belonged and shelved them. She had a few more to do before she would be done with this. Cat sighed and looked up. She had bumped into someone nearing the front desk of the library. “Oh I’m sorry” The boy looked mad for some reason. She heard him mumble, “now what am I to do? And “there’s no one at the desk” “Is there something I can help you with? I’m not the official person here but I basically know where just about everything is if that help you any.” Cat looked up at him. He was considerably taller then her. Well most people were. “I’m sure I can find hat you are looking for.” Cat smiled hping that he would forgive her for bumping into him. "I am sorry about bumping into you."

Where did she come from? The girl was talking in this sweet, rather annoying, tone. Helpful people made Rhett sick. Why would they help random people? Rhett steals from random people, and he liked that. Not that he would prefer the girl steals from him instead of talking, but it wasn't certainly better. She must be one of those bookworms that only hang in the library. No, wait, cliché says that she reads everything including minds. That couldn't be good. She wouldn't ask what I need if she could read my mind though, but maybe she's just being polite. But maybe... This isn't going anywhere, let's stop it. Yes.

"Well," He took a step closer to the girl...

A voice whispered to Rhett's ear softly, almost non-understandable.[/center][/size][/blockquote]
"I am looking for..." He said slowly as he assimilated the echo's voice in his head. "Or you know, forget it. I already know the book isn't in this library." He scratched his head a bit while looking around him. No-one else around. She must be either Leila or Catherine. She doesn't look like a sixteen and pregnant type of girl, though... "But do you know where I could get books in French, Paige? Besides online. It hurts my eyes..."

Cat looked up at him as he stepped closer. He seemed to be doing something yet nothing at the same time. Cat sighed He seemed to be making a mental decision and was confusing her. How would he know if something was there or not? He was only looking around for a few minutes. The French thing threw her off, she searched her mind to see where they were kept. “Actually I do. Most people don’t know about the room but its beneath the First floor and has most of the books in French, I stumbled upon it when I was lost. And I am not a page actually, just a student, I don’t actually get paid for my work, My names Cat.” Cat nodded at the online comment. “It is quite a bear on the eyes. I really do prefer books, to electronics.” she blushed. He was just standing there staring at her. Why?

Cat looked up at him again, “Do you want me to show you the way?” Cat looked down at the few books in her hand and set them on the counter. She could always come back to them. Cat began to walk a bit then turned around again. “Well are you coming?”

A hidden room filled with books in French? Weird... Rhett raised an eyebrow while Catherine spoke. Why would she think I think she's a page, she's not flat and inside a book. Hah, that was a good one, I should find an opportunity to say it later. He then nodded at Cat's comment on electronics, it was indeed a pain in th ass and Rhett wasn't used to it yet. Yes, he had to spend a couple of minutes a day in front of a computer to check email an stuff, but it bored him just so much. He couldn't understand how people could spend hours in front of it. Oh, right, porn. I forgot that. Now it makes sense.

"Huh?" Cat was now a couple of step a way calling him to go with her. Oh right, she said she would show me the way. How helpful of hers. He shrugged an walked towards her. "Thanks Paige." He started following her a couple of steps behind. "Oh, and I'm Allex. Hey, fun fact did you know your last name means novel in spanish?" He smirked to himself. "And your middle name is that of what books are made of. The only thing not literature-related is your first name." I'm so stalkerish, I should stop doing this sort of thing. "There are, though, a lot of cats in literature. Ever read Poe?"

Cat was walking towards the stairs when she looked back and noticed the boy was dazed. He seemed to really just be thinking to himself. That was fine except that he almost walked into the shelf. Suppressing a chuckle Cat watched as he realized she was moving and started to walk towards her again.

When he insisted on calling her Paige Cat looked at him more then a bit oddly, and stopped short when he was talking about her last name. Cat searched her mind. She never told him her last name. Nor her middle name she realized. Cat smiled and looked at him. “Well Allex im guessing your ability is something to have to do with names. And yes I do know about my name being related to literature.” Cat turned around and led the way down the stairs. Turning at two different places she eventually found the room. Opening the door she said, “Yes I have read Poe. I would have to say that I enjoyed The Fall Of the House Of Usher the most. Though, the movie was horrendous.” Cat sighed and looked down shaking her head. “Now what are you looking for exactly?”

"It has nothing to do with names." He quickly replied.

She talked about one of Poe stories, however Rhett didn't know which one was that and the title didn't sound that interesting either. He didn't care anyway. As he followed her, he felt like in a labyrinth. How was it that this girl found this room? It looked scary, he couldn't stop thinking why a library needed so many underground passages and room. There must be a hidden purpose, right?

"The Kama-Sutra, I think is called?" He answered Cat as the entered the room, quickly positioning himself in front of her and looking at her eyes. "Among the hundreds of books you've read, have you read that one?" He chuckled. "But in a more serious tone, though, not like the last two questions weren't serious," They weren't. "why does a high school library need so many underground... rooms and... hallways? How was that show called... Like in the x-men, do we have x-men facility below this thing or what?"

Cat sat down at the table in the middle of the room. It was sort of dark and gloomy down here but with a little lighting it would benefit the room greatly. She looked up at Alexx as he told her what book he was looking for. Cat blushed and looked down at the table. She had heard of it but really did not want to read it. Getting up she went to the place it was stationed and pulled it out giving it to him. “Here.” When he chuckled she realized he was joking. Smiling Cat shook her head. “No I haven’t read it but I am sure that you might enjoy it.” Standing up at putting the book back into place Cat smiled. At Alexx’s next question Cat Answered him in all seriousness. “Well probably for storage issues… I don’t know.” Cat openly laughed at the x-men comment. “I don’t think we are on the set of the x-men Alexx. If we were then we would have less people for one and everyone would basically hate us. At least in today’s society we are viewed as normal. I highly doubt we have a secret facility underneath the school, but, hey with Hammel you never know.” Cat smiled at him. “What was that book you needed?”

Oh at some point I'll know... Rhett suspiciously glanced around after Cat's comment, pretty much ignoring the fact that she thought he was being serious with the Kama-Sutra, even if he had enjoyed it quite a bit. Maybe it was time to get serious? Maybe. Just maybe, though.

"L'Île au trésor." The French accent flowed as perfect and natural as it should. "Treasure Island. Some book about pirates or something I guess." He started walking around the room, eying the books' titles. "Not like there's something better than that flick, Pirates of the Caribbean, though."

He walked behind some shelves, away from Cat's view, while still browsing through the endless dusty books. At some point he felt the need to sneeze, yet he didn't. He hated that, but then again, which human in their right feet doesn't hate that feeling?

"You should stop thinking about me, you know?" He smiled out of reflex. "Your boyfriend might get jealous." After walking around the room, behind shelves, Rhett decided to jump out and maybe scare Catherine, however he didn't know if she was still in the same position, so he slowly and softly walked to peek. "You know, Cat..." He spoke slowly, hoping the echo in the room might hide his position. "I most seriously think..." He spotted her, he was ready to do the scary part. "That you and Xavier..." Rhett jumped out, trying to land as loud as possible and taking a breath to make his loudest and most annoying voice. "IT'S NOT GONNA WORK!"

Cat, once he said what he was looking for turned around promptly and began to look for it. She, after searching some, found it at the end of a row, in the very corner, at the very last row. Pulling it out, Cat blew the dust off of the cover. She smiled at Alexx’s comment on pirates “argh matey tis been found.”

Wait. Where was he? She heard him talking. She decided to sit at the table. He would find her eventually. Pulling the book out she began to attempt to read it, but it was in French. Not the easiest thing to do. Cat laughed at her own attempts. She was failing miserably.

When Alexx began to talk she looked up and decided to have a conversation it the books, seeing as how he was hiding. She smiled at his next comment. Laughing she said, “ I don’t think Xavier gets jealous, and frankly that’s between us.” Cat looked down at the book again and held it out anticipating that he would emerge somewhere.

Hearing the Footsteps and his voice Cat felt herself tense up. She smiled when he jumped out in front of her and yelled. “Alexx, you should be quiet in a library.” Cat’s smile went away with his next comment. “That’s between me and Xavier, Frankly I don’t care what you think about it.” Cat stood up and handed the book to Alexx. Here. One Treasure Island.” Honestly he reminded her of a little kid. Cat looked at him with his sheepish smile and laughed. “I hope you enjoy it.”

"I won't." He received the book with a crooked smile and walked up to the exit, turning around just before crossing. "You're awfully calm for... a normal person." He slowly walked back to his last position, stopping just after a couple of steps. "It's refreshing, but it also shows that either you must have bigger problems to focus on, or that you save it all to explode later on." He smiled a bit as he started to softly throw the book the book upwards to flip it in the air. "Let's hope is the first, or you'll have one emotional breakdown sooner or later." Words said, he grabbed the book strongly and walked out the room. "Goodbye shadowcat!" He yelled from the mazed hallways which he exitted moments later, getting to the main library, which he quickly left too.
