With the change of the season, the flowers coming out of the dirt, the sun starting to show its face to the world, and the bright blue skies filling itself with big, puffy clouds, Annabells figured it would be a good time to create some change in her life as well. It was a beautiful 70 degree day, perfect for a walk outside, or if she so chose to, a great day for a run. But the more she thought about running out in her sweats in front of everyone, the more daunting it seemed to her, and the more she didn't want to do it. Perhaps she'd only go half way on that change and decide to go swimming instead. Yeah, that sounded like a better idea. She'd get to that eventually today.
What was really on her mind was something totally radical, something she hadn't had for quite a few years, since she came to Hammel Institute, in fact. She couldn't fulfill her top desire in this category, as they weren't allowed, but she did find out that she could make a compromise, as stated in the rules and regulations for dormitories here. With her mind made up, she grabbed her shoulder bag, double-checked for her wallet, and made her way down to downtown Pilot Ridge area. This side of town was cozy and quiet, an area that Anna wouldn't mind living in perhaps if she saved up enough money and rented out her own apartment. But what she had come for was the corner pet shop, General Pet Store.
The door swung open, and she grasped the knob behind her, preventing it from slamming behind her, instead, gently pulling it closed. This place reminded her much of her childhood, when she would always go to the pet store, since it was closer than the zoo, with her sister after school. They were the two most frequent customers, using the change they collected to buy their dogs bones and chew toys. It would be awesome to go back there once she had all her stuff together.
Walking through the few aisles the warm store had, Bells heard squawking parakeets and chirping canaries in all their bright and beautiful colors. It would be awesome to have a bird, but she would much rather see birds out flying about than stuck in cages. It would probably make her far too sad to have one that couldn't get out...perhaps a different animal would be better. How about a ferret? Fernando, a name she gave to one of the ferrets back home was one of her favorite critters in the shop. He was always so slinky and amusing, yet stinky at the same time.. but look how cute this one was! It was a true fact: the ferret was one of the more interesting varieties that she'd seen yet. It had black legs and feet, but a nearly white body, yet a head that looked like a panda bear. And it was coking its head right up at her. She looked around at the other animals in similar cages..but they were all up in each other's business, not even noticing that she was there. Still, when she returned her glance onto the panda-faced ferret, he was looking up at her patiently, inquisitively. It was love at first sight.
After waving down one of the employees, she asked about the ferret, the sex of it, finding out it was indeed a male, and the price of the whole sha-bang. She didn't have a cage for it yet, and wasn't even sure if Hammel would allow ferrets, because they certainly were bigger than hamsters (and way much cooler too), but she wanted to take the little guy home. He would be her compadre, and she would be his best owner ever. A match made in heaven, and for only $40, she got his cage, a small bag of bedding, his water bottle, food bowls, and of course, the cute little ferret himself. Now all she had to worry about was making sure not to drop the cage on the way back to the dormitory. Looking into his face, Anna searched for a name for him. Dimitri? Perhaps. Panda? That was an obvious one wasn't it? Carlos? Too old. How about...Furetto? It had a nice ring to it. Plus, if anyone asked what it meant, that was an easy giveaway. Furetto simply meant 'ferret' in Italian, her favorite language, aside from French. Furetto was sticking, and Furetto it would be.
