On the night of March 15th

So what if he'd just met her that night? She seemed like a nice enough girl to him. It couldn't hurt to spend one evening with her, particularly when luck broke his way and her plans fell through. Rhys was taking that as a sign in his favor, and now he had invited her back to his apartment for a bite to eat before doing whatever they decided afterward. Rhys hadn't planned very far ahead once he invited her to his apartment. 'Guess I'll have to wing it,' he thought on their way to his building.

He took her up to the second floor where his apartment was. Quickly unlocking the door, he stepped inside and held the door open for Sawyer. "Well, this is my apartment. Not much to it, really. Living room, kitchen over there, bathroom and bedroom around the corner over there. It's pretty small, but I don't exactly host big parties or anything. I find it big enough for my needs anyway. Make yourself at home."

Rhys shut the door after Sawyer stepped inside and moved past her into the kitchen. "I'd offer you a beer, but you've already said you don't mess around when it comes to drinking," he said, opening up one of his upper cabinets and pulling out a few bottles to set on the counter with some glasses. "Feel free to fix whatever you like." He flashed her a smile before getting to work on the food. "Oh, on the subject of food, how spicy do you like things? I'm usually a little heavy handed spice, but I can hold off if you'd prefer something a little less over the top."

Hurrying along side him, Sawyer let her mind go entirely blank. Why bother over thinking anything tonight? Her plan had worked. So what did her brain have to do at the moment that was so important? Not a whole lot. And Sawyer found that it was a good thing to just shut it off everyonce in a while. Actually the world suffered less imagination leaks that way. Of course, Sawyer never left it off for very long.

As they aproached his appartment, she looked around the neighborhood. Quaint. Small houses clearly. And she was correct. His appartment was very small. A dirastic change from the house she grew up in. Then again, she was living in a dorm with three other people and a cat. At least she thought they still had the cat. It wasn't hers so she really didn't pay that much attention. "Don't worry, mine's not much bigger. And, Since I just moved in its not furnished at all and its just a mess." She chuckled a little and shrugged off her coat.

Moving to the bottles she eyed them individually. Separating the scotches from the bourbons and the vodkas from the rums, then organizing them all out. "Oh I have an Idea." She pulled out of her pocket a silver flask and grabbed some cocktail glasses. "It's called the 6 wise men...." She grinned before mixed a few of the bourbons, one type of scotch, a bit of Jack Daniels, and from her flask some Jameson Irish Whiskey. Batting her eyes at him she pushed one of the glasses his way. "I like spicey. I've killed my tastebuds a long time ago." Taking the glass in her hand she brought it to her lips and nursed it politely.

Rhys nodded his understanding. He figured Sawyer was a little younger than him, twenty or so, maybe nineteen at the youngest. She was probably on her first apartment; this was his first place of his own too. He'd just lived there since he graduated, more or less. A couple of years in the same apartment wasn't too bad, was it? His rent had gone down a little for not being an issue and staying around so long. "Get your place cleaned up, and I might crash on your couch sometime after a night of drinking."

After turning his stove on, he went back and forth from cabinets and his fridge pulling things out. Soon enough, he was searing chicken in a pan with one of his preferred spice mixtures. It usually worked out well enough. He left the chicken alone to get the drink she'd fixed for him. "Someone knows their way around a liquor cabinet," he said with a touch of amusement after tasting the drink. He splashed a little of his into the chicken for the sake of it.
He'd cook a few breasts of chicken, more than enough for him and Sawyer right then and some for him to eat later in the week.

"And I'm glad you like spicy food. It's certainly what I prefer to cook. Let's me have something for lunch tomorrow," he said, carefully watching the chicken and flipping it when necessary as he sipped at the drink. Suddenly, Rhys was a little worried he was talking too much about things that were just too unimportant. It probably wasn't the best way to be winning the girl over.

Watching him cook she sighed very quietly and and rested her palm on the counter. Leaning against it a little smile came to her as she watched him. This was going to be fun. She senced security in him and also a very good time. Which was a nice balance change for her. Sipping her drink she listened to him talk and stored it away in her brain. Any time someone talked to her she made little mental notes about what they'd said or done.

"We need music. Do you happen to have a stash of CD's or playlists or something?" He wasn't old so she never mentioned vinals though she had a few. Reaching into the pocket of her coat which was draped neatly over a chair, Sawyer pulled out a small stash. Stash of Mike N' Ikes that was. Tropical flavored this time. She Very much enjoyed the green ones. Looking back at him flipping the chicken she shook her head. "Never mind the music just now... You need help."

Walking into the kitchen she looked to the chicken, he seemed to be doing just fine with that but working her way around the kitchen she pulled out a pot and a box of couscous. She's spent a fair amount of time watching the cooks and nannies prepare meals. And the absorbant brain of the little girl had impressed all this knowlage at a young age. While she very much didn't care to eat a lot, she did know how to cook. Bending over in the fridge she reached for some brocoli. But of course, she looked over her shoulder, still bent at the waist, at Rhys and gave him a little wink before starting to steam the brocoli. "No sense in not making it an entirely balanced meal just because you're sharing it with someone." Smiling she hopped on the counter and crossed her legs while watching over the couscous.

Rhys raised an eyebrow as she walked into his kitchen and started pulling out things for cooking. He found that a little bit forward of her, but it didn't bother him. The girl probably knew what she was doing if she was willing to just step in and help rather than offer and let him accept or decline. All the same, he couldn't help but reply. "I'm not sure I'd say I need help, but if you're willing to cook, I'm not going to stop you."

Granted, he fully approved of her choice of what to add to the meal. Couscous and some greens were a nice addition to the chicken, particularly with its spicy flavor. "You have a point though. Might as well make a good meal out of it. Nice selection." Feeling a little overconfident, he leaned over and gave her a playful swat on her butt while she was still bent over. "Now get out of my kitchen and let me fix you some food, dammit," his tone light and joking.

Obviously, he didn't expect her to actually get out since she was taking care of some food. He was just being a little flirtatious with her. He sipped at the drink she'd made for him while cooking the chicken, transferring the cooked meat to a plate before dropping in a few more breasts to cook. Rhys didn't think using only one hand was the best idea, but it seemed to be okay for the most part. He just hoped he didn't accidentally drop any and look like an idiot.

Wrinkling her nose in a playful way she grinned at him. "Pretty girls don't always do what their told." taking a long drink of her whiskey she made a more dangerous bad girl face at him. "And naughty girls simply never do what their told." Which one she was he'd be left to decide.

Poking at the veggie of the evening, Sawyer watched him cook the chicken. Hadn't burned anything so far. And nothing looked underdone. "Brocoli has a while longer. But the couscous cooks quite quickly." She laughed "Say that five times fast." Grinning she hopped back down and searched for silverwear for them. Quickly drinking the rest of her drink she shuffled through the bottles. A nice light schnaps would go well with their chicken. Or Vodka with lime.

"And what am I supposed to take from that?" he asked, enjoying the back and forth between them. "Are you supposed to be the pretty girl, the naughty girl, or the pretty naughty girl who needs the threat of restraints to behave?" While mostly joking, Rhys did have a few things back in his bedroom that could be used to follow through on the comment should she happen to have an interest in them. They certainly tended to add to his entertainment.

He continued shuffling chicken from the uncooked plate to the pan and then to the cooked plate, enjoying the smell coming up from the meat as it cooked. "Chicken, couscous, broccoli, and whatever Ms. Bartender manages to whip up. Not a bad meal, particular since you just met me." The last few chicken breasts made their way into the pan, and Rhys pushed the empty plate into the sink to wash the chicken juice from it before going back to the sizzling pan of food.

"Eat here at the counter or go crash the couch to eat? We can turn the TV on and watch whatever junk is on." Eating on the couch was his usual routine, but after eating, they'd be able to set their plates to the side and relax, possibly enjoy some dessert. Rhys was certainly believing she liked him, at least enough for her to stick around for the night, and he was positive she'd be more entertainment than he'd had in a while.

He wanted to watch TV with her? A little puzzled, Sawyer blinked but shook it off. "Why don't we eat at the counter so we don't have to talk over the tv? We can get to know eachother a little better?" Grinning she found a lime in the fridge and put the vodka on ice. Mixing in a little of the lime juice and puting a little twist of the peal in it for him, she passed him the glass.

"Besides, nothing on that tv could ever be half as entertaining as talking to me." flashing him a smile she took the couscous from the stove and put a little on each plate for them. Followed by the brocoli. "So... You obviously aren't married. And if you are, then you should be ashamed of yourself." She laughed. "Or not. Ifthe wife is a witch then find someone younger and prettier." taking a drink she sighed. "Beside that point.. Do you have family? Kids? Brothers or sisters?" Getting to know him.... this was so weird. Sawyer never had to do this with anyone else she slept with talked to. What the hell was she supposed to say when he asked about her?

Rhys shrugged a little. "TV has a mute a button," he pointed, not really intending on watching anything in the first place. He finished off his first drink before serving out some chicken onto their plates, dropping three of the pieces on his own plate. The man put back food like a machine; it was a side effect of his power. He could always eat huge meals, sometimes even needed to. He stepped around and added some extra couscous to his plate too before taking a seat at one of his counter stools.

He looked at the next drink she'd made, shrugging and starting to drink it. Couldn't hurt to let her get him drunk. On second thought, he'd probably just burn through the alcohol without trying. "I'm certainly not married," he said with a smile. "I'm only twenty-two. Doubt I'm ready to be that settled yet. As or my family..." he made a few non-committal motions before continuing. "Well, I don't have any siblings, and I'm a little estranged from my parents. They were more than happy to ship me off to a private school at a young age."

"How about you?" he asked, shifting the conversation toward her. He knew the girl's name...and that was it. Well, that and she knew her way around liquor. She could certainly mix drinks. Oh, she has a brother that was more than willing to ditch her on their planned night to hang out. He'd have to thank the guy being a douche at some point.

Putting a piece of chicken on her plate, Sawyer supressed the urge to wrinkle her nose at it. Not that it would taste bad, just that she wasn't fond of eating. But he was talking. About a mute button. What was the point of watching TV if the sound was off. Actually, she used to do that often enough and just make up what ever she wanted for their dialogs. However she thought doing that on the first date sounded imature. Which compaired to him age wise, she was.

Twenty-two, eh? That wasn't much older. And since girls matured much faster than boys, it put them at almost equal. So, he wasn't married and was not looking to be married. But the family parts she could relate to. "Well..." Picking at her food she took a bite but mostly pushed it around on her plate. "I am not married, and also not quite to that point in life." Grinning she shook her head. "You've heard I have a rotten brother. Actually. He barely talks to me without blaming every little horrid thing in life on me alone." That was a strange thing to admit. "And my parents are filthy rich. So when my brother and I were adopted by them, we were mostly raised by care takers. And pretty much just seen as trophies to my parents. They were elated when we told them we were moving out here."

Push push, shovel. She continued to move things around on her plate non-commitally. Taking bites here and there again but still making it look like she was actually eating stuff. "This is fantastic by the way. Where did you learn to cook?" She smiled at him and took a sip off her drink. This was a little awkward. They'd deviated from her games. She'd told him actual stuff about herself. They were having a nice dinner. Talking... Usually she had moved on to the next guy of the night by now. It was strange the way he kept her so entertained.

Rhys was eating his food at a rather embarrassing pace as Sawyer answered his questions. Since he typically ate two or three times as much food as other people just to keep his body functioning, he'd developed the habit of eating rather quickly to keep people from having to wait for him to finish. It only took him a few moments once he'd cut up the first piece of chicken to practically inhale it. He realized he was eating a breakneck pace and intentionally slowed down.

Rhys would have been greatly entertained by her thoughts on maturity, particularly if he had known how old she actually was. Now that he was making sure he wasn't shoveling food into his mouth, he was paying more attention to what she told him about her family from the brother that seems to practically hate her to the rich parents that didn't seem to care about her as much they cared her 'value.' Rhys was curious why her parents would consider her and her brother trophies. Maybe he'd missed something. "So, why would you be like a trophy to them?" he asked, wanting to clarify that point.

"Thanks. I'm glad you liked it. Most of my learning on how to cook was by trial and error after I moved into my own place. Needed to eat, so I tried a lot and made looooads of terrible food. Eventually I picked up on a few ways to make the food more edible." He shrugged and ate some more of his food. Sitting down for a dinner with a girl in his apartment was outside of his normal pattern. Normally it was a meal out or drinks at a bar...something NOT in his apartment until later.

Looking at her plate she surveyed how well she'd done at making it seem like she ate a lot while only eating a little. And she'd done really well actually. Taking a few more bites, she set her fork down and took to her drink again. This was getting uncomfortable for both of them and she knew it. "Well... My parents saw us as a way to uphold their social standings. Sort of a keeping up with the Jones's thing. Mom figured if people saw her adopting orphans and compleating their little family, she'd be seen differently by her social circle. Dad just let her."

Moving on Sawyer knew she had to step things up a notch or this would end in the "It was really lovely... We'll have to do this again sometime... I'll call you." thing. And she did NOT want that to happen. At least not until after breakfast. Sawyer had made up her mind that if they were going to sleep together that she would deffinately end up sticking around. There was too much invested into him now. And he was moderately entertaining while sober.

"We should put some music on." Grinning she leaned over the counter at him just a little. "Then maybe we can finish our drinks and have some dessert on the couch?" The dessert of course was going to be her. He wouldn't need pie or ice cream after having a little taste of her candy sweet lips. Smiling at him she slowly blinked a few times letting her eyes do all the convincing.

Rhys nodded, not really understanding the competitive family aspect Sawyer's family seemed to have. Maybe he'd understand where she was coming from eventually. Probably not though. It would likely remain an enigmatic concept to him. "Seems unfortunate for you. Not the best of childhoods, though it likely could have been much worse. Your parents could have despised your very existence."

She was having yet another thought process he would have found amusing. She felt like she had a lot invested in him already? They'd shared a meal in his apartment and had some light conversation. They'd invested an hour or so in each other's company. Rhys certainly wouldn't have called it a lot by any means. Apparently they had different views on certain aspects of life.

Rhys was finishing up his food as she suggested turning on some music and having dessert on the couch. "I suppose that would be a good idea. Give me a minute." He got up and dumped his empty in the sink to wash it later. "You can toss out whatever you aren't going to eat then put the dish in the sink," he said before hooking up his iPod to the small stereo he had. "Come find something you like on here." He'd downloaded all sorts of music, most legally.

Sawyer chose to ignore the "It could have been worse." The way she saw it, if they didn't love her enough to come to visit the time she'd almost drown because swimming while very highly intoxicated sounded like a good idea, then they didn't really love her at all. Actually having even the murmur of something scandelous happen had sent her mother into a fit of joy. She finally had something to gossip about at lunch with the other ladies. Of course at the expence of Sawyer. Grand. Her father on the other hand had given her a fully restored Buick Skylark for her to keep her mouth shut about how and where and who she got the illegal substances from. It was a very important invester her father treasured very much. Seeing him go to prison for this and many other things would have cost her father tons of money. So in addition to the car, Sawyer struck a deal with them. He kept supplying her and never asking questions and never charging her, then she wouldn't tell a soul about this, the imbezzlement scandles or that woman who he saw regularly for "massages."

Yes, things for her could have been much worse. But they could have been much better. Nodding to him she scraped her plate in the trash and even went so far as to wrise it off when she was done. Washing her hands she studied the way he moved. Even something as simple as the way he pulled out the ipod or put his plate way. She watched the muscles move under his skin. He was strong no doubt. He'd very easily beable to handle the likes of her scrawny frame. She found herself thinking of how his muscles would move while dancing. Dance was Sawyer's one very true passion. She'd been dancing since shortly after being adopted. Once her mother was convinced there was nothing to it. And she had an incredible talent for it. Granted she had other talents.. like being very scary smart. Sawyer got top grades in almost every class. Save for history. That was the dumbest class she'd ever taken. Science was her favorite.

But ballet had been there for her when nothing else was. Her head was swimming with what they would look like dancing together. Lifting her would be a cake walk for him she was sure. But he wasn't so big that he would look cumbersome or even hostile dancing with her. Shaking her head she put the dancing thoughts to rest and took up his ipod. "You have...tons of music...." She smiled and took a sip of her drink. Lots of diverse music was a good thing. It ment anything she liked he'd most likely heard of. "Ahh.. This is a good one." And it set the mood perfectly. She turned on Death Cab For Cutie's album Plans and turned it up a little. Moving to the couch she smiled and let her body sink into it's cushions.

That was a lot of information it was good for Rhys to not have at the time. Had he known that to begin with, Sawyer likely wouldn't have seen the inside of his apartment, let alone taste his cooking. Drugs and blackmail? These were not things that would go over well with Rhys, and since he didn't know her well yet, it probably wouldn't have gone over well with him...at all. She would have been lucky to be friends that never saw or spoke to each other with him.

Rhys leaned against the cabinet that his stereo sat in and folded his arms across his chest, looking over toward Sawyer as the music started flowing through the speakers. He raised his eyebrows slightly, surprised to hear some music from his iPod he wasn't familiar with. 'Perhaps I should either cut back on the music I buy and put on here, or I should start listening to more than the few things I already know I like," he thought. The music was alright with him, certainly not something to complain about.

After the music played for a minute or so, Rhys decided he could live with her choice in music for the time being. He walked over to the couch and sat down with his arms spread out across the back of it. "Somehow, I haven't heard this before," he told her with a bit of a laugh, thinking she might get some level of amusement of him not knowing some of the music on his own iPod at all. "But I suppose I have something more or less new to turn on now."
