General Appearance: Meiling stands at 5'4" with an average frame. Her eyes and face are almost always expressionless unless greeting you with a timid smile. Her black hair is long and straight and usually kept parted down the middle and left cascading over her slender shoulders. Very rarely is Mei found in clothing other than business casual. High-waisted skirts, button-down blouses, and high heels make up the majority of her ensemble. Her makeup is often striking, but not overly so. Her skin tone is fair, and considered pale to some others. With sharp bone structure and icy eyes, Mei quite often looks cold and unrelenting. This of course, is not the case.
Personality: Calm, calculating, and meticulous, Mei has grown to be a rational thinker with a knack for making sound judgments. She is soft-spoken, which is often mistaken for shyness. Mei is not afraid to speak her mind given the right circumstance. She is a curious individual with a thirst for knowledge. Mei is a practiced meta-human and has long since learned to control her power of Precognition. She can 'fish' for glimpses of an individual's future upon whim, though interpreting these visuals has always been her greatest challenge. Mei does not consider her power a lifestyle, nor does she consider it to be a tool. She much rather prefers not to exercise her power at all, as she sees little use in it. Mei's honesty coupled with her sound rationale make her a reliable source for advice and wisdom. Her personality can be easily compared to that of a feline's. Mei is aloof and rather disconnected to the individuals around her. She is sensitive to a fault. Mei finds it difficult to dole out forgiveness and finds herself holding grudges that stand in the way of progress. She finds little incentive to make an attempt to engage others. For this reason, Mei is very much a loner and is often mistaken as being boring or uninteresting. She believes it just takes the right personality for her to be able to identify and connect with an individual. Mei is a vegetarian.
Your Vices
Likes: Reason, logic, certainty, and her privacy.
Dislikes: Religion, redundancy, meat, and flowers.
Strengths: Mei considers her practicality and level-headedness to be two of her biggest strengths. Logic drives her reasoning and as a result, has always made sound decisions. She is a meticulous individual and because of this she has excellent resolve.
Weaknesses: The rigidity with which Mei lives her life makes her incapable of trusting many individuals. No, doesn't have a traumatic past or anything like that. Her weakness is her difficulty to identify with any given individual. Her precognition allows her to see into the futures of the people around her, and despite being an intimate gift, Mei finds herself unable of developing meaningful relationships with anybody.
Fears: Death, bees, and weight-gain.
Secret: She prefers to keep her power of precognition a secret, however the people who must know, know.

History
Being a meta-human, Chinese-American girl growing up did not prove to be as problematic as one would think. Fortunately for Mei, she had a rather uneventful (maybe even mundane) life growing up in upstate New York. Both her mother and her father were hard working individuals. They did not dote upon their daughter for having displayed her talents at an early age. Mei's precognition began to manifest itself when she was a young teenager. She attended The Hammel Institute at the age of thirteen.
Much of her time at Hammel was spent learning to control her ability, and interpret the results. In retrospect, Mei took for granted the time she spent at the Institute, having left making zero friends. She managed to get herself a boyfriend or two as a young woman, however she failed to make lasting relationships with anyone there.
Upon leaving Hammel, Mei immersed herself in more education. She soon found that precognition was not her only talent. Mei had an uncanny ability to understand and psychoanalyze people. This was no meta-human power, but rather the result of a keen mind and logical thinker. Meiling worked as a thereapist for humans for some time, concealing her her meta-human status.
Life for Meiling hums along, consistent, and certain, but lacking the flavor she so quietly yearns for.
Roleplay Example
Meiling touched two fingers to her right temple and squeezed her eyes shut when she felt the beginnings of a migraine.
It was only mid-morning, and yet Mei had felt as though she had been at the clinic for ten hours. Her last patient was a troubled boy of sixteen who refused to eat what his mother cooked him. Hardly a legitimate reason to admit someone to the psychiatry ward! Meiling had half a mind to storm out of the room and slap the boy's mother across the face and explain to her the complexities of being a teenager.
Instead, the twenty-seven year-old woman leaned back in her chair, opened her eyes, and began to scribble something close to illegible onto her clipboard. 'Another day, another dollar' she would tell herself, though the words were not nearly as encouraging as she had hoped. Sighing, Meiling stood, clutching the clipboard, and walked decisively towards the door. Two hours in and ready for a break already? Hell yes.
The dark haired woman opened the door and almost immediately she caught glimpse of an old man exiting a door further down the corridor. He was definitely a patient, that much was easy to tell. The decrepit man, who looked to be in his eighties, turned and for one fleeting moment, made eye contact with Mei. She paused and the eye contact made a muscle in her right arm twitch. Despite the eye contact only lasting a second, Mei found that enough time had lapsed for her to find out just how this man would come to die.
Being able to tell the future, was Mei's gift. Precognition, which is the more scientific name for it, had been a part of Mei since she was a teenager. Even now, despite having learned to control the ability, Mei felt the urges to exercise her power, and do what comes naturally to her. She blinked and looked away, still frozen in place. She kept her mind focused, and concentrated her efforts on dissuading her mind to do what it was created for. Her migraine intensified for a moment at the sudden exertion, then recoiled.
Mei gathered herself, and looked towards the old man once more, who was making his way down the corridor towards the receptionist. She did not need to know how this man would die, nor did she want to know. Suddenly repulsed, Mei forced herself down the corridor, realizing that she would have to stifle her ability several more times til the day was over and she could go home.
Apparently Mondays were shi**y for everyone, human and meta-humans alike.
