Name: Alexander Orion Sparrow
Nicknames: Alex, Sparrow
Age: 14
Orientation: Heterosexual
Desired Rank/Job: Student
Powers: Alex can temporarily take on the properties of inanimate objects while touching them. For example, if he is touching stone he would be able to take on the property of its hardness so that his skin/body would become as hard as stone. When he stops touching it or deactivates his power, he would lose the property of the object. Properties and objects he’s tested successfully so far include the hardness of stone, lightness of a feather, heat of fire, elasticity of elastic, flexibility of rubber, and transparency of glass.
Side-effects of this power include relative permanency of the properties he takes on, the more he does so.

The Details
Hair Color: Blonde
Eye Color: Hazel
Any Piercings? No
Any Tattoos? No
Any Scars? No
General Appearance:
Alex is pretty casual in terms of his appearance. He likes to keep his hair a little shaggy and often runs his hands through it when nervous. He doesn’t like to dress up if he doesn’t have to, and feels most comfortable in jeans and a T-shirt. He particularly likes jeans that are a little worn and torn- new jeans are stiff and constricting. In the winter or colder weather, he’ll add a hoodie to the ensemble.
He especially likes pants and jackets with a lot of pockets. He likes to keep materials on him for using his power- different kinds of rocks, a feather, a piece of elastic, a match, etc. He likes to experiment with different kinds and keeps the best ones in his pockets in case of emergency. Sometimes he even gets extra pockets sewn into them so he can carry more stuff on him.
He’s not particularly tall (yet, he hopes), about 5’6.5”, and a bit on the scrawnier side at 110 lbs. He likes to keep pretty active- he was on the middle-school swim team and he goes hiking with his family at least once a month.
Personality:
Alex is an easy-going guy. He’s quick to laughter and slow to anger. He is laid-back and likes to have fun with life. If he experiences any sadness or disappointment, he doesn’t stay negative for very long. No matter what upheaval, challenge or triumph he is confronted with, he is good at keeping positive and bouncing right back into things.
Unfortunately, he can sometimes be a bit too laid-back. Because he doesn't feel very anxious about getting things done, he can be a little irresponsible and forgetful. He sometimes finds himself missing important deadlines for homework or other assignments. He also is not very good at being punctual. He likes to sleep in and to take his time in getting stuff done. Because of this, he usually arrives late, even to important events.
Alex is an extravert and likes to get to know everyone he meets. He likes to make people happy and is pretty good at making people feel comfortable. He hates conflict and is usually the person trying to play mediator or lighten the mood in the midst of arguments. Alex is also a very loyal friend. Once he is committed to a relationship (romantic or otherwise), he is totally devoted and faithful. Despite his light-hearted attitude, he takes relationships very seriously and will always be there for a friend when they need it.
Alex is a nature-lover and likes to spend time outdoors. He practically grew up outside- it was always their family’s “thing” to go hiking and camping. They took Alex with them before he could even walk, strapped to his mom’s back. He feels most comfortable surrounded by nature and will often go outside to take walks or just to think.

History
As far as parents go, Alex’s were pretty unusual. Instead of being completely freaked out that their children had metahuman powers, they were intrigued and fairly delighted. They were both academics, scientists specifically, and were excited to have metahuman children. Of course, they didn’t brag as the rest of the world wasn’t as excited about metahumans as they were and they didn’t want their children taken away by the government. Hammel was the perfect option.
His brothers both went there, after the powers manifested when they were around 11. Alex is much younger than his brothers- they are 8 and 10 years older than him, so he had to wait awhile until he would start showing some kind of extraordinary talent as well. They expected him to start developing his meta powers around the same age. Alex expected it too, until he didn’t. It was a source of great frustration and shame for Alex. He had always looked up to his older brothers and wanted to be just like them.
Despite the fact that his parents reassured him they didn’t love him any less because of it, he couldn’t help feeling like he was a disappointment to them. How could he compare to brothers who could create magical forcefields or blast energy from their hands? This was made worse by the fact that his parents hadn’t planned to have him. It had never bothered him before. They had always referred to him as their “happy accident.” He thought it was kind of endearing, though also embarrassing in that way parents could be. When he was about 12 and a half and still hadn’t manifested powers, they stopped saying it. He guessed they probably didn’t want him to feel bad since he wasn’t special like his brothers. But that almost made it worse.
In the end, it turned out that he was just a late bloomer. Over the summer he was on a hiking trip with his family. He and his brothers were goofing off near the edge of a ravine, and Alex accidentally got pushed off of it. The fall would have at least broken a few bones, if not done more damage, but Alex floated slowly down to the bottom. It was the cause of much celebration. They were literally cheering as he floated downward. At the time they guessed he might have the power to fly or something. Later on, he realized it was the eagle feather he had picked up from the trail earlier that had saved him.
The Hammel recruiters didn’t even need to find him. His mother called up the school as soon as they got home and told them that, as she was expecting, their third son had shown meta human abilities and when could he start? His parents even threw a party for him. They even invited the neighbors and his friends, explaining that he had gotten into the same private school as his brothers. He had the summer months to figure out a little more about how his power worked before he went off to Hammel. Alex was pretty excited to go. He felt like he finally fit in properly with his family.
Roleplay Example
((I know in general you don’t RP another character’s actions, but this was a forum I was an ST of and played both of these characters))
Admiral Venn sipped at his third glass of champagne. Although the party had been going on for only a little over an hour, many of the people he had talked to insisted on toasting him and it would have been rude to refuse. He was pleased that, despite the large quantity required for the party, the champagne was decent. Not expensive enough to be something he would order for himself to be sure, but decent. If the toasts kept coming at this rate, he would have to convince one of the servers to start bringing him sparkling water. It wouldn't do to get noticeably drunk in front of the guests.
A young lieutenant he hadn’t met yet approached him. She had short, spiky hair that had been dyed purple and red. This was quite at odds with her pristine blue uniform—almost as wrinkle-free as his was. He frowned briefly at the hair. Despite that it seemed to be awhile since she had last dyed it, judging by the few inches of chestnut brown showing at the roots, he was pretty sure these colors were not military standard. He would need to make a note of her name and discuss it with her later. He didn’t want to make a fuss at the party, but he did want his crewmembers looking sharp
She stuck out her hand for him to shake, which he did. Her handshake was firm, which was somewhat surprising at first given her slight frame. Then he saw the small silver fist pin on her uniform’s collar, indicating that she had a physical-type power. He knew that everyone with a physical power had to undergo rigorous physical training in the Academy. After graduating, most of them usually kept in impressive shape.
“Lieutenant Kairen Tanith, sir.” She introduced herself, and saluted him. “It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
“And you as well, lieutenant.” He replied, smiling. Venn repeated her name to himself in an effort to remember it later.
She raised her glass in a toast and he inwardly groaned. Pretty soon he would lose count of how many lower-ranking officers had toasted him.
“Congratulations on your appointment, Admiral Venn.” She blushed, a mix of embarrassment and awe, as she asked the next question. “How did you come about it so late, if you don’t mind me asking?”
“Not at all,” He replied, though he did mind; he had heard the question more times than he’d been toasted this evening, “Though I fear you’ll find the answer rather dull. The appointing committee merely called me in to meet with them and informed me that they had reconsidered their choice of Admiral. I suppose they just found me more qualified to the position.” It was a lie, of course (except the part about him being more qualified). He had played a part in Ace’s removal as Admiral. But he would keep his end of the bargain and keep his mouth shut as to the reason.
“Of course.” She responded politely. “I think everyone was a little surprised that someone so young had been appointed.”
“Indeed.” He saw his First Officer, a bright young man by the name of Damien Masterson, waving to him from across the room and sighed. “It seems I can’t get away from business, even at my own party. Excuse me Lieutenant Tanith. It was a pleasure meeting you.”
