Just heard about this on my Star Wars forum. I'm genuinely concerned by this action by the US government.
Normally I'm not one to bring politics onto the forum, as it bores some of us, and doesn't affect others at all due to our being a global community. In this case however I'm making an exception, as it may very well affect our little family here if we don't do something about it. This is mostly addressed to the few of us on the site who are stateside, but it may very well affect the rest of you in the future, so you may wanna pay attention. The video link I'm providing below will cover the subject far better then I can, but the short version is that the government is proposing stricter online copyright protections that may very well take out things like youtube and facebook, as well as anything else tied to copyrighted materials in any fashion. It is a gross over reaction to online piracy, and needs to be nipped in the bud quickly.

If you feel this is a bad idea like myself and so many others do, then make sure to have you and your friends make their displeasure known by contacting your representative. Below is a link for getting you their contact info if you don't already know it (like most of us don't).

Also, on a closing note, please don’t think that these bills have no chance of passing, because they do. They have some powerful people backing it, and they’re trying to push it through as quickly as possible. Even if these bills are only used to target 'rogue' foreign sites as it states, it will establish a precedent for future bills. If we don't stop these bills now, how can we ever hope to stop them in the future?
Would you rather possibly overreact now, or have to worry about the possibility of these laws passing and what it could do to many of your favorite sites down the line?
