The Basics

Name: Kane Thane Woonren
Nicknames: Daemon, Dragon, the Demonic Teddy Bear
Age: 32
Orientation: Heterosexual
Desired Rank/Job: Other staff member (Teaching Cooking.)
Powers: Dragonic Appearance: Dragon-like features that set him apart from the rest. His bones in his hands and feet are pointed and sharp, not quite sharp as a blade, but enough to cause cuts and scars if he's not careful. He also has a long lizard-like tail and a pair of dragon-ish wings. The wings are strong enough that they don't rip or cut on their own, but they can't really stand up to anything puncturing or anything like that. He has no fire ability of note, but he runs hot (about 102 instead of 98). His canines are slightly longer/sharper than the average person's, but not to the extent that anyone would really notice without close examination.

The Details
Hair Color: Brown
Eye Color: Left eye is blue and right eye is green in a condition rarely effecting twins.
Any Piercings? None
Any Tattoos? None
Any Scars? Kane is covered in various nicks and scars caused by his claws covering various parts of his body. Across his back, there are twin massive scars where his large wings unfold from his body. He has a circular scar at the base of his spine where his tail comes out as well.
General Appearance: : Kane is often told he has an intimidating stance likened to that of a prison guard, usually with his hands behind his back and standing very straight. He stands at just over 7 feet tall, in the 220s of his weight. This is often offset by the kind smile that usually dawns his face. He usually wears T-shirts or muscle shirts, not particularly paying much attention to what he wears, usually saying that if someone is going to judge him by how he looks, it isn’t going to be by his clothes. His most common outfit is a slightly tight white t-shirt with a small teddy bear on it.
His voice is soft and kind, but deep. He usually has a some kind of stubble around his mouth due to not shaving. He says he doesn’t like shaving, but also won’t grow a beard. He has a kind gaze, however, at times he has been told he can have a stare that seems to go straight through someone, able to see into their soul. Which was something he and his brother both got, even though the pair didn’t meet until they were adults. He has short brown hair usually combed back. When he’s in a hurry though he tends to leave his hair in whatever way it was when he got out of the shower. He has average white skin, he doesn’t tan very well but he can get a little color from time to time.
He often gets comments on his eyes, and he’s more than used to them by now. Although, he does get annoyed if to many people ask about them in a row. In the winter he tends to wear a large black winter jacket with an image of, what would apparently be, dragon wings on the back. He seldom dresses very warmly, but not to the point that he wears shorts in the middle of a blizzard. Kane has been tall for most of his life, and at one point of his life he was rather thin, however, he’s become more muscular over the years, and now has a muscular build that fits on his frame.
Personality: Kane is the definition of a nice guy most of the time. picture. He is a kind person who is more than willing to do whatever someone needs of him, so long as it is legal and so long as it is within reason. He doesn’t like to fight, and for the most part he’ll avoid it at all costs.
At times can be a bit distant, and he suffers from random bouts of depression and insomnia from time to time. He is very fatherly, and likes to spend his time with kids. He is not a pedophile and he gets very depressed when people call him that. He enjoys teaching about anything he is knowledgeable about, but doesn’t do well in crowds of more than ten or so people. He is still somewhat traumatized by some of the events of his childhood, including being abandoned by his birth parents, among several other things.
Kane is a very protective person, but he can have a very violent temper, although it takes a LOT to provoke him. The quickest way to do this, is to harm someone he cares about. However, he will not raise his voice, and it is usually a very quiet, or even silent, fury that strikes out at the cause. He is an affectionate and sentimental person, and has still has keepsakes given to him by some of the people he has met over the years. He doesn’t like giving bad news, and will usually do about anything to avoid it, usually preferring to be the bearer of good news. He doesn’t mind if people call him about anything, so long as it isn’t an insulting nickname, and has been called ‘the demonic teddy bear’ on more than one occasion.
He has a good sense of humor, and likes to make jokes about different situations, loving to laugh and hear other people laugh, although only when appropriate. He can occasionally have a sarcastic sense of humor, and finds that sometimes something’ll slip out without him noticing it or without thinking. He’ll usually apologize if it’s bad though.

History
Kane and his brother were separated by the foster system pretty much just as soon as they were born. John was adopted and Kane went into foster care. As he grew older, he helped out with the cooking and the cleaning and taking care of the younger members of the family. He was always a tall child, . He had a bit of a knack for cooking and his mother often gave him lessons, able to send him to a cooking class once or twice. He had no knowledge of his brother and no interest at all in finding out about his birth parents, perfectly content to help out his foster mother with his foster siblings.
Not to say that Kane's life was anything even remotely resembling paradise. They lived in a few steps ahead of a slum and usually had to scrape by, the sounds of the train and gunfire constant companions during the night. Two of the foster children Kane had known when he was in the single digits of age died, the first killed in a shooting not far from their home, and the second of an overdose. Kane didn't let it get him down, and he kept close with his fosters sisters, until they eventually were sent to somewhere that could take care of their needs more. After his last sibling went off to live with a family who could offer her more opportunities, Jami decided that she was getting too old to be able to run after kids, so she didn't take on anymore children, focusing her attention around Kane. Which was probably a good thing for what started happening as he grew up.
About halfway through his 13th year of life, Kane was sent home from school with a temperature of a hundred and two, even though he himself didn't seem to notice it. His mother took him to the doctor to get some sort of opinion, and they just explained that he probably ran hotter than the average person, as 98.6 was just an average. Still, they took some bloodwork and sent them home. He was back the following day, when his back was racked with an incredible amount of pain. The doctor's couldn't figure out what was wrong with him, so they had him stay overnight in the hospital. The following day, while he was doped up on plenty of pain killers, a man came and talked to his mother about a school that could help him cope with a unique medical condition that the doctors had found in his blood. His mother was confused, and waited until Kane had come down to talk to him.
The pair slowly agreed that he should go, after being talked through it a little by the man, although Kane had a feeling that he had been holding something back from his mother. So when she left to talk to one of the nurses for a little while, he asked him what was really going on. The man explained, showing him his ability and looking at what he would really be going to the school for. Understanding what exactly he would be able to do would take time, although the fact that his body temperature made him think that it was something to do with fire. Imagining himself catching fire and accidentally hurting, or worse, his mother, he agreed to go. Kane was racked with pain, nearly every minute of the day, but he refused pain killers, remembering the overdose of a similar medication that had killed his older brother. He moved from New York to the school, starting regular classes there and going to daily appointments to the doctor about his pain. It was during the walk to one of these appointments that he started shouting in pain.
He dropped to his knees, two long dragon-like wings ripping through his flesh and cleaving his shirt in two. Discovering this ability, he was given an X-Ray, to see if there was anything else within his body. It was discovered that he had been cutting himself, accidentally, for the last few months (since around the time his body temperature had begun to raise) because the bones themselves had become claw-like and sharp. They also discovered a tail beginning to form, which would probably have the same painful results. But, aside from soreness and some initial un-comfortableness, Kane's pain faded for two years, until the tail was ready to go through the same process. He trained with his wings, and slowly learned how to fold them back into his body. He didn't particularly like doing this, as it was rather uncomfortable for him. He had to hide himself though... and although it was uncomfortable, it wasn't as uncomfortable as uncomfortably scrunching the wings against his back inside a jacket.
At the school he was a fairly average student, had trouble making friends though. For the most part he had people he talked to that sat next to him in classes. His height, coupled with his wings and claws, tended to make him more intimidating than he actually was. After a time, he got used to the wings, and then the tail, and he had learned over the years how to be careful with his ‘claws' although they helped him get a little more talent with using them without cutting others or himself. The only class he ever really excelled in was Cooking/Home Ec., and he was mocked merciless for it (by those brave enough to mock the giant of a teen). After graduation he moved back to the city to be close to his mother and get a job.
The next few years were relatively quiet for Kane as he got a job working at a small convenience store where he used to run errands and taking cooking classes at night. When he was about 27, a teenager came to see him while he was at the store, explaining that she was a student at the school he used to attend... and his half sister. He got to know her for a few days before she went back to school, keeping in touch with her. That following year, he started working at a nearby restaurant to start picking up a little extra money. He ran into a little bad luck at this restaurant, and was mistaken by one of the patrons for a man she had seen killing a woman several days previously. He was arrested by the police, and taken in for questioning. His DNA matched up with the evidence from a crime scene, but he was kept in a holding cell for further investigation.
Looking through his file, they found out about John, who Kane himself didn't know about. They hunted down Kane's brother, and brought him in is as well. During his processing they found a knife covered in dried blood on him, and quickly discovered that his fingerprints matched some from one of the crime scenes. Kane was released from custody and John was taken into prison, and put on trial. He is currently on death row awaiting execution.
Kane had a harder time after he was released. He'd been fired from his new job as a cook for being arrested while he was there and his old job went under after the old man that owned it died. He lived on unemployment for a while, searching around to try and find a job that would take him. The city was full of unemployment, and Kane couldn't find more work. He spent some time taking some classes at a small culinary school, before his funds began to run dry. Not wanting to try and get money from either his mother or anyone else he knew, so he called his old school seeing if he could get a job. He took one working in the kitchen, and has more recently started teaching a cooking class.
Roleplay Example
((A recent post from a Pokemon site I am on))
Sarah had her hair put back in a ponytail as she walked out to the swamp, Cherry following behind her, bouncing along the unfamiliar, and rather bad smelling, path. Sarah was by no means dressed as a period accurate ninja, mainly because she couldn't really afford an outfit like that that she'd want to use to dredge through the swamp. She also wanted to get a Kendo sword to use, but she'd have to send her mom a note about that and she'd still really wouldn't want to just use THAT in the middle of the swamp either. Still, what she had was fine for the character. She was wearing some eyeliner that made her eyes seem a little larger, and with her mouth and nose covered by a scarf it was hard to tell that it was Sarah. She’d considered dying her hair black too, but she hadn’t thought about this character very much yet so she wanted to go out and “play” her first.
Holding up her hair were two needles her mom had given her that she'd used during her days in the Fuchsia Gym. She had a long black scarf wrapped around her neck and covering her mouth and nose. She could breathe fine, but it was helping to block the smell of the swamp, at least a little bit. Her shirt was a white martial-arty vest she'd used when she used to be in her mom's class, its sleeves had been cut off after one particularly rowdy session had practically ripped one off. Sarah had opted to take them both off rather than repair it because she thought it looked cooler. To make up for the cold, she was wearing a black jacket, unzipped but it was the middle of the day so it was a little cool, but not exactly cold. For pants, she was just wearing some form-fitting black pants, and she was cheating on her shoes because she wasn’t going to walk around in the muck with tabi or something like that on, so she was wearing some boots, and she also had on a pair of black gloves.
Cherry was somewhat confused by the change of appearance, and probably wouldn’t have thought that it was the same person if he hadn’t seen her getting changed. It was a lot like how he changed in the different seasons, but she seemed to become someone new entirely. Still, it didn’t bother the little grass type very much, he was just happy to be out and about. He didn’t like Sarah’s room very much, it was cramped (at least compared to the outside), and she got mad at him if he got into mischief inside. Out here she didn’t seem to mind at once, so he could have fun out here if he wanted to. He jumped forward, running a little ahead of her and peering into the muck of the swamp. It looked rather icky, and he didn’t really want to walk in it. He looked back at her, hoping that they wouldn’t have to walk through it and they were going to stick to the path. It looked like it’d be fun to make someone fall into it, but he wasn’t all that thrilled at the prospect of getting in it himself.
”Don’t worry about it Cherry, we’re not going in the muck, at least not right now,” she said, making her voice slightly deeper than her normal one. She couldn’t really decide on it just yet, but she’d stick with this one for the moment. She looked at the sun overhead, thinking that they’d left the dorms about an hour ago, so it was probably about lunch now. ”Why don’t we stop for lunch before we go a little further in?” she said, to which the Deerling responded by nodding enthusiastically. She set her bag down on the ground, pulling down her scarf a bit and revealing a dark purple shade of lipstick. She set down a plastic-wrapped egg salad sandwich for her, and unwrapped the plastic on a paper plate with some veggies for the Deerling. ”Eat up,” she said. She looked down at the other two pokeballs hanging from her belt, thinking she should let them out for a bite to eat too, but was a little hesitant.
She’d won them off the school’s auctioning system, which meant they probably wouldn’t be all that happy when she let them out. Still, she’d have to let them out sooner or later, and perhaps the prospect of bribing them with food would keep them from attacking her. She picked up the pokeball containing Samantha, her Ekans, first. She’d grown up around Ekans. He mom’s two strongest Pokémon were an Arbok and a Scyther (which totally didn’t influence her decision to buy the two of them at all. Nope), and the Arbok had a couple of dozen Ekans babies slithering around. Most of them were given away as graduation presents to her mom’s students at her classes. She shook her head, pushing the thoughts out of her head. She wasn’t Sarah right now, she needed to get into character. She was Akame, a ninja coordinator. Sure Sarah could stick around for some input and such, but she had to be Akame right now. She tossed the pokeball ahead of her, Samantha appearing when it hit the ground.
The Ekans stretched as it came out of the ball, its narrow eyes looking ahead for the human that’d caught it. She didn’t find them, and instead her eyes fell on the female trainer in front of it. She hissed, annoyed and confused by the situation. She looked around, not seeing any other Pokémon but a Deerling, who was munching happily on its salad. Perhaps this trainer was her opponent, and the Deerling was her Pokémon. She darted forward, preparing a poison sting to strike the grass type with, not caring to listen to its trainer’s instructions. Akame blinked as the poison type went on the attack towards Cherry, and quickly lunged into the path of the snake Pokémon. ”Stop!” she commanded, the purple snake stopping just short of hitting the trainer with the poison sting. She looked around, not seeing any sign of the other Human. What’ssss going on here?” she said, looking suspiciously at the Human.
”I’m your trainer now, this is Cherry, one of my other Pokémon. I’ve got something for you,” she said, reaching back and managing to just reach the bag, pulling it over, looking through it for a little while. All the while the snake Pokémon watched with its tail ready to strike, while Cherry seemed blissfully unaware of how close he’d come to being attacked by a Pokémon he was weak to almost twice his level. Akame pulled out some tinfoil wrapped food , unwrapping it and setting it down in front of the Ekans. It was her mom’s special recipe, and it was the favorite snack of all her poison type Pokémon. She sat up slowly as Samantha sniffed over the food. ”It’s food, and I’m sure you’ll like it.”
The Ekans stopped sniffing after a second and promptly latched onto the ball of food, starting to swallow it down whole. Akame was used to the behavior, and had purposefully broken the food up so she wouldn’t try to eat the entire mass of it in one sitting. She looked cautiously at the ekans, who was too preoccupied with the food to care about the Deerling right now. ”This is Cherry, he’s also one of my Pokémon, if you attack him, I’ll be putting you back in your ball and you won’t be coming back out for a while,” she said warningly. Samantha didn’t give much movement that she heard her, but she was too preoccupied with the food to do much of anything anyway.
She looked nervously down at the ball holding the Scyther. Hopefully he wouldn’t be as aggressive, she was faster than an Ekans, but trying to fight a Scyther was just about suicide. Even if she was just trying to block it or something. She reached into the bag and pulled out the last of the Pokémon food, a very sweet jam-thing that they’d had that they’d said that bug types loved. She figured she’d give it a shot, she could always just return him and feed him when they got back to the dorm if he didn’t like it. She opened up the jar, the sweet aroma quickly filling the air. Hopefully Kendo would be more interested in it than attacking, if it was so inclined. She flipped the pokeball up before tossing it over a little further away from her.
Kendo emerged from the pokeball, looking around, a bit disoriented. “Scy?” he said groggily, blinking a little as he looked around. Then he took a sniff of the air, his eyes immediately shooting open and looking around wildly. He spun around, seeing the human holding the jar and moved over, his tongue darting into the jar and licking up the jam. Akame did her best to keep the jar balanced as she placed it in the bug type’s blades, listening to him hum. The thing was so happy he was practically purring!
”Well, so much for you being a violent killer,” she said, patting the Scyther (who seemed to be trying to shove his whole head into the jar)’s head before walking back to her sandwich. She finished eating it carefully, trying not to get too much lipstick on it. When she was done, she picked up the scraps from the others and returned them to her bag, managing to pry the jar away from Kendo, who was in the process of licking the jar clean. “Well, that wasn’t so bad,” she said, looking down at Samantha, who looked too stuffed to move. So much for training her… hopefully Kendo and Cherry, who was now bouncing happily around the Scyther, who was doing his best to follow the bouncing grass type with his head, would be up to battling whatever they found. She picked up Samantha’s pokeball, returning her and looking back at the other two.
