The Basics
Name: Myo (family name) Kaoru (given name)
Nicknames: Oru-kun, Kaorunyan
Age: Seventeen
Orientation: Uncertain
Desired Rank/Job: Student
Powers: Shapeshifting, Kaoru is limited to shifting into inanimate objects. There are quite a few things he can change into without a thought, but everything else requires a reference picture or the actual item. His one big set back is that a single part of his body won’t shift back into his normal form from time to time. Writing notes with a pot handle as an arm is pretty hard.

Eye Color: Dark Brown
Any Piercings? Left earlobe, double pierced
Any Tattoos? A cartoony Maneki Neko on his inner right arm
Any Scars? None
General Appearance: Kaoru, as you can tell from his name, comes directly from an Oriental family. Though his mother is Japanese, he takes on the trademark appearance of a typical Korean boy, which is passed on by his Korean father. All his friends back in Korea and Japan had considered him a "pretty boy." His hair comes down to about his ear and is styled in a trendy way. Porcelain would be a fitting word to describe his skin tone seeing as how he’s neither a peach colour nor a ghastly white colour. His cheeks take on a pink colour from time to time and his pale complexion makes it more noticeable. He stands at about six feet three inches, which makes him look a little lanky.
He tends to dress very subtly, considering most Korean and Japanese fashions appeal to such. Most of his clothes he still orders from his favourite stores. Knitted pullovers or cardigans, a heather grey pea coat, khakis and dark wash jeans are typical in his wardrobe. On bad hair days he’ll haul a toque or beanie over his head. During the winter he always has a knitted scarf around his neck, no matter what. He wears a baby pink cat shaped pendant on a golden chain, and he has never taken it off. He gave the pendant to his little sister when she was born and before she passed away she offered it back to him so she’d “always be close to his heart.”
Personality: Oru-kun is definitely what people would call the “strong, silent” type. It’s not that he doesn’t like to talk, he just chooses not to. Offer him a conversation and he’ll surely talk as much as he finds needed. He’s also what you would call… well, a pervert. But it’s in a subtle way, much like the rest of his personality. Plus his charm and pretty boy looks seem to make it come off as a cute quirk than the piggish trait it actually is.
He tends to scare a little easier than other people and when he’s frightened, instinct is the first thing to mind. Kaoru’s instinct? Turn into a toaster. Though he does have a very good handle over shifting randomly sometimes he just can’t help it. Especially when people jump out and him and yell boo! He’s also what you’d call a sly fox. Using his charm to his advantage makes some things just a little easier for him.
Because of the death of his sister when he was 13 his already protective nature has almost quadrupled. For those he’s close to and for those he doesn’t even know, he’d be willing to put himself in danger if it could help. His strength and training in taekwondo make him capable of doing this.

History
Kaoru’s birth was not planned. In fact, Kaoru’s birth put his family in danger. Some time in September of the year 1993 Myo Gi (known as Park Yung Dae at the time) and a group of other rebels fled the nation of North Korea. Gi and a few others of the group moved on to live in Tokyo, Japan. Gi, after a loan from a support group situated in Tokyo, moved into a small apartment and landed a job as an accountant (with what little training he had received in North Korea.) This is where Gi let Akutagawa Yui, one of his superiors, and they claim it was love at first site. They got married two months later, which was quickly followed by Yui’s pregnancy with Kaoru. Gi moved up the business ladder quickly and he finally had the life he had been dreaming of.
The group of rebels were under suspicion that caused the legal name change of Park Yung Dae to Myo Gi. In August of 1994, Myo Kaoru was born. The family of three lived a fulfilling life, switching back and forth between their house in Japan and their summer home in South Korea. Around the age of 6 Kaoru learned one of the most important pieces of information in his life time. “Kaoru, you’re going to have a little sister.”
Later that year, Myo Meiko was born. Kaoru was instantly attached to her. As she got older, Kaoru became closer and closer to her. He thought she was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen, and he truly loved her. By the age of 4, Meiko’s health started to deteriorate. After extensive testing, they discovered that she suffered from end-stage pediatric heart disease. They gave her medications and she underwent surgeries upon surgeries. But nothing was helping. Even though there wasn’t a very good chance of her survival, they placed her name on the waiting list for a transplant. In the summer of 2007, Meiko passed away due to heart failure.
Kaoru was devastated. Despite the siblings age gap of almost 7 years, Meiko was his best friend. His parents tried to send him to counselling but it was of no use. The death of his sister had literally broken this once strong, independent young man into a blubbering fool. He dreamed about her constantly. She was standing just out of arms reach and he was running. Running and running and running. But his fingers could just not reach her. He screamed her name over and over, though his cries were cutting his words off. His parents rushed into his room in attempt to comfort their grieving son, but all the found was a big stuffed cat. The big stuffed cat that had belonged to Meiko, and was buried with her body. The three of them never spoke of the incident again, and Kaoru tried his hardest to stop it from reoccuring.
The family, after going through yet another traumatizing event, decided that they simply needed to get out of Japan. They packed up their belongings and were ready to set off for America when a young man showed up on their front door step. He explained how he was a scout for The Hammel Institute, and his job was to find meta-human children and aid them with their powers via their schooling. But after a glance around their box filled house he suggested Kaoru to enrol at the Vermont location of their school. They finally set off for their new home, now in Pilot Ridge, Vermont rather than San Diego, California.
Kaoru now lives in his own apartment in the Pilot Ridge. With permission from his parents, of course. His parents had moved back to South Korea, but still love him dearly. They fund his housing and all the things he needs to survive on his own. Occasionally, they even come to visit. He has a firm control over his power and also over his emotions towards the death of his sister.
Roleplay Example
Well, didn't this turn out too well. Kelsie could (barely) hear Tivia and Meagan up in the hallway. There goes Plan A. There was no chance she could run upstairs and into her bedroom without being caught. Even though hers was the first in the hall, Tivia and Meagan's doors are followed soon after. There was no other way out. She didn't want to go wait outside, that was just plain stupid. Because she was too weak to shift, therefore causing her to drop her shifting, she could no longer climb her way up to the roof easily and slide through her window. She was stuck between two shifters and a hard place.
Deciding that she had no other options, Kelsie sat herself on the tallest suitcase. Letting her eyes travel around the room, she realized she didn't really remember a lot about the layout of the house. She remembered where the rooms were, but not what they looked like. She could easily tell you the order of rooms in the upper hallway, and that Tivia had a freaky hidden library thing, but she probably couldn't tell you what they looked like.
After living in the Conman's single-family house for so long, she wasn't quite used to the large, open space either. The ceiling in the room was so high. The Conman's front door led directly into the living room. Taking more then four steps in would case you to tumble over a sofa. The staircase was long, twisty and wide. The stairs back in Seattle were narrow, straight and short, containing around 6 stairs. Their whole house was often cluttered with mail and toys, while this house was rather clean. It would probably take her a little while to soak it all up.
Kelsie was brought out of her train of thought by the sound of someone's feet thudding down the staircase on the opposing end of the hall. The stairs that led into the kitchen. Atleast they didn't come down the front stairs… Her eyes flickered to the stairs. Had they of come down the front staircase, they would of run directly into Kelsie. She let out a long sigh and pulled her hands into the sleeves of the sweater. For the first time in a very long time, they were going to have to turn on the houses heating system. Damn humanity, and its stupid need for heating or a/c.
The sudden feeling of someone watching her sent shivers down her spine. Her eyes were slowly adjusting to the darkness, a fault of being human. Even though she knew the light coming from the kitchen would temporarily blind her, she let her head raise in its direction. The white light that flooded from the kitchen blinded her, leaving her vision covered in green and purple dots. "Arggh…" Kelsie lifted her hand slightly to shield her eyes, but not high enough to hid the figure that was standing in the doorway. Meagan had heard her and came down to check things out.
Standing up quickly, Kelsie suddenly felt awkward. "I… Uh… It's late… Uh… Didn't wanna… y'know… wake you…" Her voice was shushed and little, but she knew Meg could hear her. She could feel the warm tears pooling in her eyes and sliding their way down her cheek. The hand shielding her eyes from the light went directly to her face and wiped away the tears. She could feel her lip starting to tremble slightly. After taking an uncertain step forward, Kelsie stopped. What if Meagan thought she was imagining things? What if she simply turned around and walked away?
