The Basics

Name: Aki Shinrah Welland
Nicknames: Well, with a name like Aki it can’t get any shorter. She never really had any nicknames. Go ahead and make one up for her. Maybe it’ll stick. I doubt it.
Age: seventeen
Orientation: Heterosexual
Desired Rank/Job: Student
Powers: telepath
Control: Well, Aki doesn’t have really any control of her power yet. She has a “long ear” as she likes to say, and can hear thoughts from people who are pretty far away. She usually just hears everything as snatches of this and that, and sometimes whole conversations if people are thinking really loud. The only way for her to hear a whole mental conversation is to be touching someone [which she hates] . She can communicate with people mentally if she knows them very well only [so far]. She wants to learn to be able to talk to everyone mentally. Aki can transfer images by touch, but just barely. She has the least amount of control over this because she’s afraid of practicing. She hopes to be able to focus in on one person far away and hear them, maybe even talk to them but that doesn’t seem possible now
Drawbacks: Well, headaches, ranging from little ones to full blown elephant stomping, dinosaur fighting migraines. Aki has a mental shield like swiss cheese, so any other telepath or empath can see what’s going on inside her head. She can’t really lie, just bend the truth a little bit. This is because 1) she’s a very blunt person, and 2) since she can hear the thoughts of people around her she has always thought lying was a waste of time. She never bothered trying. Also, when she touches people she usually learns more than she wants to know. She tends to pick up on peoples stray thoughts and answer thoughts and questions before their asked.
The one side affect she doesn’t talk about is her nightmares. At night her mind pulls in all the stray thoughts and swirls them together along with her own memories and she gets horrible nightmares.

The Details
Hair Color: kind of coppery red brown
Eye Color: greenish grey
Any Piercings?three cuff earring on her left ear and two on her right as well as multiple studs. And her belly button is pierced
Any Tattoos?nope
Any Scars?yes, mostly from practicing parkour. She does have a scar on her back that is very pale and spreads in a thick line. It’s as long as her back and is about four inches wide for the whole length. This is a giant burn mark from when she was in a fire.
General Appearance: Aki is a small girl with a relatively slight, kind of lithe body. She stands at five foot three and weighs about a hundred twenty pounds of taut, well honed muscle. This active girl may look fragile for a moment, but moves quickly and easily. She is definitely not afraid of being active, and her chosen activities aren’t exactly the safest either. She carries herself in a way that says she is definitely proud to be who she is and won’t let anyone bring her down. She’s definitely pretty, but chooses to ignore it. If someone wants to say it let them. She’s usually not interested.
Aki’s hair is a kind of reddish brown that looks coppery in the sunlight. She leaves it down often, but always has a pony tail for it for when she goes running. Her eyes are a kind of slate color with a mossy green tone in them. It’s really pretty. Her face is sort of shorter but slightly pointed. Her whole posture is usually filled with either sarcasm, laughter, or mischief; or a mix of the three. Her ears almost always have some kind of earrings, usually cuffs or studs. Aki tries to stay away from anything that dangles. Her skin is a healthy deep hazelnut stretching over her frame. Her fingers are long, although her nails are kept relatively short. She has a birthmark on the back of her neck that is a dark smudge.
Her style of clothing is simple. Jeans and a tee's are good, usually in reds, blacks, and gold. She tries to stay away from blue and green. She has a leather jacket she wears sometimes that is really scuffed up. And you can almost always find a pair of gloves with her, whether on her fingers or sticking out of a back pocket. For shoes she wears lightweight running shoes and her favorite are a pair of Puma’s she got recently. Scarves are rare as well as hats. She’s not one for fancy clothes because she likes to be able to move around easily. Most don’t know it, but Aki has to wear glasses. She prefers contacts when she can get away with it since she tends to lose her glasses when free running. Jewelry is almost always zero except for earrings.
One thing about her is that she doesn’t really follow fashion. She wears whatever she feels like, whether it’s ripped holey jeans or a hollister tee. If she see’s someone else wearing clothes she likes she’ll usually ask about them. That’s just how she is. Aki doesn’t care what others think about the way she dresses.
Personality: Aki is one of those people. A troublemaker. She always has something to say about everything, and sometimes it can be quite….colorful. She’s spicy, defiant, bold, stubborn, and doesn’t usually accept no for an answer. Things just always have to be her way. She can be a bit hot tempered at times, which leads her to be extremely sarcastic, or to start fights. Well, she does that for fun sometimes, but also when she’s angry.
Her temperament could be described in just a few phrases.” Act now ask questions later”,” throw caution to the winds and dive in headfirst”,” maker of snap judgments”,” quick to make stupid decisions”, and “if you don’t want to know the whole absolute truth then don’t ask the question.” . She’s not really all that patient with people or very organized with most of her stuff. Many things annoy her quickly, like flakey people who aren’t real and stereo types. She tends to be irascible at times, and will snap your head off. Her temper ignites pretty quick.
Some of the good things about her are that she likes to smile despite being sarcastic and has a pretty good sense of humor. Aki doesn’t care what people think about her. It really doesn’t matter what people say because she likes to do crazy dangerous things and she’s going to break rules whether people say she can or not. Aki takes surprises in stride though and is good at thinking on her feet. Usually she uses that when practicing Parkour. This girl seems to show no fear and is a bit of an adrenaline junkie. She has to have the next bit of danger and quick. She likes to piss people off and thinks her best feature is her sarcasm. Aki is a punctual person, hating to be late for anything. Timing is a big part of her mindset, the seconds ticking away like a second heartbeat. She is always timing the thing she does, some kind of internal clock telling her how long things happen. At times, she see’s things in a slower motion, which is good when she’s running through buildings.
Some bad things are her mouth, which is always getting her in trouble. She can’t lie because it’s stupid and useless, and usually doesn’t try to. Other than her sarcasm she’s a blunt person, cutting right to the quick of a discussion. Sometimes this can be painful for the person she’s talking to because she doesn’t sugar coat her words. Aki says exactly what she’s thinking. She hates it when people dance around the point with words. Another downfall is her tendency to pretty much blatantly ignore authority. Ya, she’ll try to listen. Kind of. It might last for a day or so but then she’ll be back out doing something dangerous that will most likely land her in the hospital. She doesn’t like rules, ignores them, and does a great job at it. It often lands her in detention or something else, doing boring things that completely bore her to death. Another downfall is she’s the kind of person who is quick to get into a fistfight. She has no problem with people saying anything about her, but she has rules. Like, you don’t bring family into the matter. You say something about her family and she’ll take you down swingin’. This is especially true if you say something about her sister, who she loves with a passion. Aki’s also a show off, and the queen of eye rolling.

Secret:Aki is a closet hacker and code warrior. She’s gotten really good at working with code and computers, but doesn’t tell anyone. Even so, she’s almost always tuned into to whats going on around campus because she can access everything she needs gossip and news wise online. She hasn’t done anything to screw with the Hammel AI computer system…………yet.
She also never told anyone that she doesn’t know how to swim.
Probably her biggest secret is her nightmares. Most of the time she dreams of when she was younger and was in the fire, but there are plenty of other horrifying nightmares. She never talks about them, and acts like they don’t happen.

History
Aki is a city girl, born and raised. She was born in Cincinnati Ohio on May 18 1994 to Jeremy and Lena Welland. From birth, the girl was indoctrinated into the sights and smells of the city, and the sense of excitement and danger. For most of her young life she was a little hellion. Aki was hard to keep track of, and constantly ran off baby sitters who were too tired of pulling out their hair. Ya, she was a rule breaking toddler. Cribs didn’t hold her very well and once she learned heavy things broke doorknobs it seemed nothing could stop her.
When she was three her younger sister Taeloc was born. She was kind of a sick little baby who needed a lot of attention. Aki didn’t understand this, but she did know that mommy said she had to love her little sister over everyone. So she did, and that how it always was. When she was four she started preschool, which was an absolute disaster. She was constantly fighting and yelling and doing all sorts of bad things. Her parents were stern with her, so she settled down for a bit, but that didn’t last long. Kindergarten came and went without too much trouble, except she broke some kids arm by accident pushing him down the slide. First grade she acquired bumps and bruises and being sent to the office, but not much else.
It was in third grade something in the cityscape really caught her attention. Free runners. She saw them in the skate park on some days, jumping all over the trees and climbing equipment. To the little eight years old it was the coolest thing she had ever seen. It latched deep down into her brain and she made it her goal to be able to do that. Her mom thought the interest came from watching too much tv. None the less her mother tried to get her involved in all sorts of physical activities. She was in tae kwan do for a few years and jazz dancing, but got sick of both. By sixth grade she was back to trouble making and running on the walls at school. She was smart, so she was always asking science questions to try and understand how to do all sorts of cool things. Tealoc seemed to be the exact opposite. While Aki was a little mischief making snarky kid Tealoc was a sweet young girl who liked helping people or reading. Even so, the two girls were the closest of friends that there could ever be. Tealoc got in plenty of fights defending her younger sister. You just didn’t mess with her, and that was a rule.
Aki discovered her power completely by accident when she was thirteen, and if she hadn’t both she and her sister would probably be dead. Tealoc was sick again and staying home, and no matter what her mom said Aki was not going to go to school and leave her sister alone. It just didn’t work like that, because her sister came first. No one really knows what happened, but a fire started in one of the apartments near them. It spread rapidly and blocked the way out for Aki and Tealoc. The two girls were terribly frightened, but Aki kept a quick thinking head. She kept her sister towards the floor and draped wet towels over both of their heads. Outside people were screaming their heads off and inside the two girls were screaming too. In the room they were in one of the ceiling boards gave way, falling. Aki covered Taeloc so she would be burned, but In the process was burned very badly herself. The pain was horrible, and she screamed, both physically and mentally.
It didn’t take long for other meta humans to show up because no one in the area could have missed that mental scream of pain. Some people didn’t believe it, but it was true. They got the girls out of the fire and on their way to the hospital. Two things came out of that. A very healthy fear of fire and knowledge that she could call for people with her mind. At the hospital Aki was identified as a meta human and treated for the extensive burns on her back. Once she had recovered she went to Hammel where she could learn to train her power. Of course, two things stopped her. Worry for her sister and mischief making. She paid moderate attention in class but never really bothered to train much. It was boring to her.
When she was fourteen another two things happened. Her grandmother died and her sister came to Hammel. Her sister was a bit young, only eleven. Grief seemed to make her power come to life, which was seeing the connections between people. She saw the threads connecting to her grandmother fade away one day while they were visiting. People thought she was asleep, but she had died. So Taeloc was tested and found to be a meta and sent to Hammel. Even though it was a horrible thing the girl had each other and made it through. Tealoc really buckled down and worked hard. She was really smart and kept good grades, and worked with her power. A good kid, and just as always, opposite of Aki. It got to a point where Tealoc almost always knew what her sister was doing, or what she was going to do. If someone asked her she probably knew, even if she didn’t always tell.
Now Aki is seventeen and has decided maybe she really should start working with her powers some, because they are seriously not in her control and need some help. She can barely control what she hears and is afraid that her nightmares are going to get worse if she doesn't start to learn.
Roleplay Example
Her slatish green grey eyes glanced around the empty school grounds. She should be in class right now, but history was boring today so she didn’t care. Besides, she did need a break. The girl would swear inside and out that the teachers had been trying to turn her brain to soup lately. Aki closed her eyes, trying to figure out if anyone was near. She felt thoughts brush past her consciousness like soft fingers, worrying about getting papers graded. Probably a teacher then. She tried to bring herself all back home before anyone noticed her. She was safe in her hiding spot, for the moment at least. There was always the slim chance that she would be discovered.
There was a service ladder not that far away that would lead her to the wide sloping roofs of the institute. Not a good substitute for the city, but good as she was going to get to practice with. The slanting roof had dark shingles in some places and in the oldest places slate tiles. Those were the ones she had to watch out for. If she wasn’t careful then she would end up sliding right off when a stray tile came loose. She took a breath in, gleam in her eye. The air was still and it was bright, perfect for free running. Aki carefully checked her light braid to make sure it hadn’t come undone, and that it wouldn’t once she got into motion. Once that was done she glanced around again. Roof, roof, windowsill, ladder, window leap, roof. She counted it out in her head.
Only a moment after her feet launched her soundlessly into motion and she thanked her mother a thousand times over for tae kwan do and jazz. Her body hurtled through the black and white landscape, brain ignoring the colors, making everything seem surreal. The edge neared her and she counted down the steps. Aki’s eyes watched where she needed to jump. There was a short hop and she glided across the windowsill. Her gloved hands grabbed the ladder and she swung around onto another windowsill and leapt.
Her body glided through the air in a leap of faith, moment seeming to last forever. The next second she tucked her feet in and rolled onto the roof in triumph, continuing on. It all seemed so easy today!
GET OFF THAT ROOF! A voice roared in her mind and out loud. She stopped, momentum pulling her too far forward. One of the tiles came loose and she started to fall. Instead of panicking she slid down, one hang grabbing a stray ledge with all her might. Her other hand joined it and she kicked off, grabbing a branch a few feet away from her From there she could simply just hit the ground at a roll and be okay, which she did.
“What are you thinking you foolish child! You could break your neck!” She didn’t know this teacher, so she stood there weight on one leg and rolled her eyes. She already didn’t like him. Great. Fun’s over. He grabbed her arm and dragged her along, his thoughts loud in her brain. He was cursing in a steady stream about teenagers and their stupid dangerous tendencies, and Aki even learned a few new phrases to add to her vernacular. She wasn’t in the mood for being touched either. She didn’t want to know what he had been doing and didn’t want to go to the office right now. That would just put a crimp in her day.
“ Can you not think so loud? You’re giving me a headache the size of the moon.” She said in an unamused, blatant voice, earning a new slew of uncomplimentary thoughts and a verbal scolding. Ah well, they can’t all be nice people she thought to herself.
