As per usual, August left her last class and made a beeline for the library, keeping her eyes directed downward in the halls. She didn't really know too many people, and not making eye contact made it easier for her to get from place to place without getting flustered and activating her ability. She made it to the room within a few minutes, letting out a small breath as she scanned for a place to sit. The sun was shining through the window against the far wall, which was very inviting, especially since she was somewhat cold, even bundled in layers of clothing. Gripping her books, she settled down in a chair by a table under the window, letting out a soft sigh as the warm rays hit her skin. Sitting here had definitely been a good choice.

She flopped her books on the table, quickly deciding to do her reading for biology first. As soon as she opened the page, she lost herself in the text, becoming unaware of what was going on around her. She probably wouldn't see anyone approaching until they were directly in front of her.

Odion fingered his old deck of cards in his hoodie pocket, eager to practice a new trick. The last time he was in the library, Chester had tried to get under his skin. Hopefully this time around, the other boy wouldn’t be anywhere in sight. Hopefully he was keeping fucking Cameron Osiris busy as well.

Turning into the library, Odi headed for his usual spot, and stopped short. Someone else was already there. Of course, when the library was practically empty, someone would be sitting at his favorite table. He really could’ve sat somewhere else, but he had grown accustomed to his spot, and though the frock of red hair had been an alarm at first, Odion realized a harmless, uninteresting little girl wouldn’t bother him. Besides, he was generally kinder to the fairer sex. Generally.

So he carried on and sat diagonally from her. Odion cast her a small smile before reaching into his pocket once more and taking out his cards. “Would it distract you if I practiced a card trick?” He asked in his British accent before settling in.

As predicted, August didn't even notice Odion approach until he was sitting across from her. A slight shifting of his chair made her gaze dart upward, and immediately she felt self-conscious. Oh, no, she had wanted so badly to be able to sit in peace....

Not wanting to be rude, though, she managed a tiny smile behind her blushing cheeks. "N-no, you can practice, I don't m-mind." She winced. Whenever she talked to strangers, her voice seemed to betray her, sending a stutter through her words. It wasn't that she was overly attracted to the guy or anything (although he was sort of cute, and he had a cool accent, and red hair!), it was just how she reacted every time. It got old after a while. If she knew her luck, she would probably be shifting any second now.

Tipping her head slightly so her hair covered part of her face, she directed her gaze at the stack of cards in his hand. "Um, w-what can you do?" she asked, realizing she was curious. Magic tricks were fun, and if he was any good at them, well... She kind of wanted to see.

"I usually sit here," he explained, not wanting her to think he was being creepy or anything. Besides, he was turning nineteen shortly and she was what? Thirteen? And well, she definitely wasn't her type. After what he'd done to Live, he wasn't keen on having a repeat. Odi smiled softly and glanced down at his cards. She seemed like a sweet person. He took her stutter lightly as he shuffled his cards.

Odion glanced at her, wishing he could meet her eyes with his dark blue optics. "Thought you said I wouldn't distract you," he said kindly, before fanning the cards out in front of her. Well, since she was asking... "Pick a card." His practice would be a whole lot better if he had someone to work with anyways. He watched her carefully, feeling nothing but ease around her. It was just nice to talk to someone he didn't immediately hate or know through affiliations. She reminded him of Sage.

August nodded at his explanation, realizing belatedly that he did, indeed, have plenty of of other tables that he could have sat at. "I-I thought it would be nice to sit in the sun," she replied, attempting a conversation since she hadn't changed or anything yet. Weird, it normally had happened by now. Maybe he wasn't interested in girls....? That was one of the only explanations she could think of. Almost instantly, she felt a little better.

She risked a glance up, meeting his eyes before dropping them once more. "Oh, um, I have all afternoon t-to study, really," she offered shyly. "And I love magic tricks." At least he seemed nice too! "Oh! Okay." Reaching out slowly with long, nimble and slightly trembling fingers, she picked a card on the right side. She pulled it to her, not sure if she was supposed to look at it or just hold it. "N-now what?" She had no reason to think anything negative about him, but he was already making a good impression on her, and she managed to calm down enough to offer him a genuine, if small, smile.

Odion took note of her Southern accent, often interrupted by her stutter. Perhaps he should stop deeming people uninteresting before he spoke to them. "I like the view," he said, looking up at her from beneath his eyelashes. "Are you cold?" Most people didn't like sitting in the very back corner unless they had something to hide, or were scared, or both. Odion had to wonder why she was here.

Noticing her sudden relief at something, Odion raised a questioning eyebrow, but didn't say a word.

"Wonderful," he said, eager to get the show on the road. "I know lots of tricks. Take a look at it and then put it back in the deck." Odion asked. He had to wonder if people he just met and did card tricks with, thought he used his powers to make tricks work. He never did. In fact, it was probably the only thing he was honest with.

After she replaced the card, Odion shuffled them again. The cards went from one hand to the next with expert ease, making the complicated shuffle look easy. "Is there a name to go with your pretty face?" He asked. Compliments usually worked on people, and Odion wanted to know this nice girl's name.

August glanced out the window, nodding slightly. "It's very nice," she agreed. The colors of fall were everywhere, painting the Hammel grounds gold and orange and red. At his question, she pulled her arms closer to herself. "A bit, y-yeah. It's always hard for me to adjust to the w-weather here, it's so hot back in Texas all the time." She bit her lip, offering more information than she had meant to. It wasn't like it was a secret anyway, though, from the way she talked.

Following his instructions, she peeked at the card - five of diamonds. She sat it back in the deck, crossing her arms in front of her once more and waiting with shining eyes to see what would happen. August did wonder briefly what his ability was, and if it had anything to do with his tricks - she didn't really mind either way, magic was magic as long as she didn't know how it worked!

Watching the cards being shuffled, she felt her cheeks flush again at his question, and let out a small, nervous laugh. "I'm, um, I'm August," she replied, glancing up again. "What about you?" She thought she recognized his face from the halls, but she couldn't put a name on it.

Odion glanced out the window. It was so easy to get lost in thought at this table. It was easy to think and great to have peace. He looked back to his company - she could use the space any time. "Your accent is lovely," he said, truly meaning it as his smile reached his eyes. There were nice Texan accents, and really, really bad ones. At least hers didn't make his ears bleed. They both had accents, it was something to bond over. Odion unzipped his hoodie and put it on the table, pushing it towards her. She could take or leave his chivalrous offer.

"August, pleasure's all mine." After a moment, Odion lifted the Queen of Hearts from the pile, a playful smirk on his face, "Martin". He still didn't like handing out his real name if he could help it. "This is not your card," he informed her, before reshuffling the deck and taking out a Five of Diamonds. "This however, is." His tricks were one of his strong suits, and he tried not to make mistakes when showing them off. It wasn't the trick he was going to try to master, but that one could wait when he didn't have an audience.

His compliments were making August slightly flustered again, and once more she was certain she would change - but yet again, she was proved wrong. It only strengthened her belief that he simply wasn't interested in that way. "Th-thanks," she murmured quietly, smiling at the ground. "Yours is too. I've always thought it would be n-nice to have an accent that isn't so... Twangy." The last word she purposefully thickened the accent to make it sound as country as possible, glancing up and widening her smile. She hoped he would laugh, or at least smile back. She watched as he took off his jacket and apparently offered it to her, and her eyes widened. That was really.... Unexpected. She felt bad not taking his offer, so she gently picked up the garment and draped it over her shoulders, feeling the warmth soak through to her skin already. "This is really nice," she murmured, fidgeting nervously. "Thank you. Again." This never happened to her.

She was all ignorance at his lying of his real name. "It's nice to meet you t-too," she replied, really wishing she could stop stammering already. She took a deep, silent breath, focusing on the card in his hand. At his declaration, she shook her head, smiling. When he showed the other card, she beamed. "It is!" she agreed, clapping her hands together in front of herself. "That's so cool. I would love to know how to do magic tricks." She ran a hand through her hair; this was the first time in a while she had been able to talk to a guy without being self-conscious about changing.

Odion smiled. "At least you haven't been called Ronald Weasley." Actually, he had been called Ron, but he got the reference. But just because he had a British accent and red hair didn't be he appreciated being referenced to a total moron who couldn't help himself. Yes, he had read the books. No, he didn't like them all that much. Where was Malfoy's side of the story? Or any other 'bad' guy. Odion had read too much into the books to really understand what the point of it all was.

"Of course, any time." It was a pun that she wouldn't really understand. Not just yet.

Odi was already getting used to how she spoke, and saw it as nothing but charming. He chuckled to himself and shuffled through his cards again, surprised she was impressed at such a small trick. She too easily bought into his game and Odion made a mental note to not let anyone get to her, like Romeo or Chester or any other moron in this school, so really anyone. Except Lani, and a couple other people he had come to warm up to. He kept shuffling the cards and looked at her for a long time. After his twin brother had shown up, his paranoia had gone up as well. But he had to tell himself it was ridiculous to think that just because they had a couple key similar features didn't mean they were related. That, and Dec wouldn't know if they had a little sister.

"Want to see another one?" He asked, finally snapping out of it. "Or should I leave you to your homework?"

Being a huge booknerd, she had read the series plenty of times through, and actually quite enjoyed them. She often liked to compare herself to Ginny, although she wasn't nearly as bold or brave or Harry-Potter-girlfriend material. In reality, she wasn't really like her at all, minus the hair similarity.

She tugged the jacket tighter around herself, hoping she wasn't smiling too much.

August really was easily impressed - she didn't know anyone that could do tricks, even simple ones, until now. There was a certain aura around people that could do it, and she felt almost honored that they had ran into each other. She didn't know how he was feeling about her already - all she knew was that she might be actually making a friend that she wouldn't feel self-conscious around all the time. Nevertheless, she wasn't able to keep his gaze as he watched her, and she toyed with her fingers, keeping her eyes down.

She looked up, however, at his offer. "Would you m-mind?" she asked, not wanting to bother him if he didn't want to. "I, um, I don't have to do this right now. I usually get stuff done way before it's due anyway." She grimaced; way to sound like a stuck-up overachiever.

Odion laughed too, looking down at his seated form. "I don't see the resemblance at all." Maybe he had the right accent, but so did all of Britain. Odi didn't think August looked like Ginny - Ginny looked like a horse.

There weren't any instances where Odion felt awkward for looking at someone for too long. He just didn't notice, not with his power being what it was.

He smiled at her, glad one of the two had a good work ethic. "Between you and I, I'm a bit of a procrastinator." Odion shuffled the cards again, before setting them down. "This one's called Robbery." And it was going to be a bit of a story. He lifted up the first four cards to show her that they were the Jacks. "These are the burglars," he said. He wasn't the best story teller so she would have to bear with him. "Now," he said, folding them back up into a small stack, "they decided to meet on the roof if the alarm went off." One by one, Odion stuck the Jacks throughout the pile, starting at the bottom and working his way up, explaining that the deck had a basement, and various floors.

"But the bell went off," he said, now that all of the cards were in a pile again and the Jacks were "robbing" the place. Odi knocked on the top of the cards. "And they all met on the roof, as promised." He said, lifting up the top four cards of the pile, to show that the Jacks were on the top, even after he'd placed them throughout the deck. He smiled, obviously proud of himself as he placed the Jacks in front of her so she could see that they were just your regular Jack.

August smiled at him, offering a tentative,"You're d-definitely better-looking than him." She had never really found Ron's actor all that attractive, even if he was a fellow ginger.

She shrugged at his procrastination comment, still smiling. "I tend to work more often than actually t-talk to people. We all have our ways." When he began his narration, she dropped her hands into her lap and watched with wide eyes. She didn't care if he wasn't the best story teller, she got the gist of it anyway, and that wasn't the most important part. When he got to the part of revealing the four Jacks, she grinned at him again. "That's awesome! Where did you learn how to do that?" She picked up one of the cards, examining it briefly before setting it back down. A small silver bracelet with a jewel-encrusted heart peeked out from beneath her sleeve, before she dropped her arm on the table once more.

"Thanks," she told him sincerely. "This is really a n-nice distraction." She had a tendency to work too much, as earlier stated, so it was good for her to take a break now and then.

Odion smiled broadly. Not a lot of people had just flat out told him that before. It was a nice gesture that he didn't let get to his head. "And you love, are a sight for seeing." No he didn't really like girls that way, but she was pretty, there was no denying that.

"I don't have a lot of friends either," he said. It wasn't such an uncommon thing, she didn't have to know why he didn't have friends, and that was because he was selective about who he wanted to be friends with and a total ass to those he didn't even want to look at. He flicked through the cards in his palm. "I taught myself," he said. Just like how he taught himself English, and a handful of other languages. Odion's sleeves were forever full of tricks. His sharp eyes caught the sparkly bracelet but his eyes flicked back up to her face quickly. He wasn't going to steal that, he wasn't going to steal that... not yet.

"I'm in here all the time, so just let me know when you need a break." Had he really just offered that? He smiled softly, he must've gotten distracted by the pretty object she was wearing. Odion sat back and glanced at his cards. "You're not curious as to whether I cheated with my powers or not? With the card tricks?" He asked, his dark eyes flicking over to her, an almost sinister smile on his face. Odion was always curious about the inner fabric of human beings, and he just wanted to know if she was suspicious of him at all. Not that that meant she wouldn't lie about it. Most people just didn't think like him. How safe was he around her?

It was rare that she felt comfortable around someone enough to offer something so boldly, but this Martin was making a great impression on her, and she wouldn't mind seeing him again. "That's cool," she commented, leaning her cheek on her hand, studying the deck once more. Maybe she should try teaching herself some tricks.... But no, who would she show them to? It was a silly thought.

His offer had her smiling again. "I'll keep that in m-mind. I just probably shouldn't get into the habit of watching your tricks all the time." She could watch magic for hours. His questions had her tilting her head, pondering his words. "Well, the way I see it, no matter if you used your powers or not, it's still magic to me," she replied. She didn't even know what his ability was, but now she was definitely curious. "So I guess... I just like it all being a mystery?" Noticing she hadn't stuttered for two whole sentences, she felt another wave of relief. She was getting better at this talking to people stuff. She wanted to ask what it was that he could do, but she didn't want to be rude - she, personally, never liked telling people her power was desire shapeshifting. It made her feel.... Wrong. Because she was so opposite of what her power was meant for.
