Getting Ready for Christmas Day (Josh)

“Consider it done,” the telepath promised the other man. It was hardly an imposition to go to Michael’s or a similar craft store on an errand for cookie cutters. The errand would likely take no longer than a half hour, and he knew that Josh would appreciate it. That was all of the motivation he required. That it would result in cookies was merely icing. Sean made a mental note to do that this weekend, and unlike with Josh’s suggestion regarding the chore list, to actually tend to the errand this weekend.
“So we can make chocolate chip cookies if you want.” He wanted his partner to understand that since it wasn’t particularly complex to do so, they could thus make chocolate cookies, or any other type of appropriate cookie, that the younger man might desire. It would be a good weekend. Considering what he knew that Saturday and Sunday’s “treats” contained, it would be a very good weekend.
The conversation turned serious, as his partner reflected on his assault last year and the recovery spent in this house. While his gratitude was appreciated on one level, Sean maintained that it wasn’t necessary. He set his coffee mug down and shook his head as well, denying Josh’s insistence that he hadn’t been obligated. Perhaps not legally obligated, but morally and through their relationship, there had only been one course of action. “You’d been hurt; you’d needed me. Of course I wouldn’t leave you to recover alone.”
Of course Josh had been welcome here for his recovery. The telepath hadn’t thought twice about opening his home to the other man, or to preparing meals for him, to providing companionship when he desired it, and leaving him alone otherwise, to administering his medication and driving him to medical appointments. That had been part and parcel of being needed, and of wanting to aid Josh through his recovery.
Besides, he felt better knowing that Josh was under his protection; whether or not that had been of real assistance was a matter for debate.
“You don’t owe me your life.” That type of inequality had no place in a relationship. As it was, he still wished that he had gotten to Josh earlier so that he could have prevented the injuries and the trauma in addition to ensuring his continued safety.
The telepath move one hand across the table, reaching for Josh’s, as he sought out the other man’s eyes. “And I’m grateful for you too.”
