The Art of Losing (Vincent V, Janice)

When Vincent had signed up for the internship program through Hammel, he did so only because Sammy dared him. Neither one of them thought he would actually get the spot, because if there'd been an interview, he wouldn't have lasted two questions. When he learned that no one else had applied and that by default he got the job, Vincent had punched Sammy, then whined to Moe. He didn't want a job, really. It meant less time that he would able to hang out with his friends, less time spent bothering Moe, and generally having to do things that involved his brain.

Moe, however, had seemed very excited about this. Vincent completely neglected to tell him it was a dare gone wrong and Moe had prattled on about how this made Vin so much more responsible. There were some other words too, but to be honest Vincent was just staring at his thighs the whole time.

When it came time for him to show up for his first day, Moe had surprised him by buying him new clothes, telling him that he'd never get taken seriously if he showed up in leather pants. To be fair, Moe kept Vincent's traditional color scheme of black and red, and the clothes looked good on him (It was a pinstripe button down shirt and pants), but Vincent was incredibly uncomfortable. It was written all over his face as he was shooed out the door and grumbled the whole way to the office.

He was still looking rather upset when he arrived, pushing open the door with his elbow, his hands stuffed in his pockets. The only reason he hadn't rerouted along the way was because he didn't want to disappoint Moe. Unfortunately, this does not mean he's willing to control his mouth.

Vincent nodded his head in Josh's direction, starting things off with a simple, "Sup?"

The intern wasn't quite what Josh had expected, considering the snakebites and the asymmetrical hair cut he was sporting, but that couldn't be held against someone his age. After all, Josh's college years could be considered wild by some definitions, and while his own tattoo was rather low key and Sean had only had pierced ears he was sure that if they had been young adults in the present there was a high possibility there would be more ink and metal on both of them.

So he gave the young man a welcoming smile and smooshed his cigarette in the ash tray on the coffee table before standing and offering his hand. "You must be Mr. Verax." He chose not to comment on the intern's less articulate greeting; he probably hadn't had any speech classes or coaching on how to present himself in an office setting, but he had plenty of time to learn. He would mostly be dealing with paperwork rather than clients, in any case, so eloquence wasn't a necessity.

"Janice! Good morning." He returned her grin with a nod and then waited patiently while she launched into a preamble about the job. When she was finished he added, "I'm Joshua Bernstein and this is my colleague, Janice Adams. We're happy to have you on board with us."

The kid looked a little...glum, to be honest. And he had strange hair. But really, Janice wasn't all too put out by strange hair or strange piercings (as the boy had both). She was a little mystified by how bummed out he looked right now. Maybe he was just nervous. That would make more sense. Janice couldn't understand why someone would try out for a job that he didn't want. That would just be stupid.

Janice flashed a welcoming grin at Josh before training it at their new intern. "Well, we're glad to have you on... Vin, you said? Cool." She glanced at Josh, "Shall we get started on what you'll be doing here? It's not too hard, we promise."
