This was the second time that Joshua Bernstein and Janice Adams had advertised for an intern.
This was the first time they had bothered with an interview.
It had seemed so safe, accepting the sole applicant. He had been a Hammel senior, and his resume had been so well presented. How were they to know that someone else had written the resume for him?
How were they to know exactly what the name Vincent Verax meant?
This time would be different. This time they had arranged an interview.
They had come into the office on a Sunday for this occasion, not wanting the distraction of real work to be done. Fortunately their applicant, one Niko Gallo, had agreed.
Josh had to resist the urge to pull out a cigarette as they waited for Niko to arrive, fingers inching towards his pockets longingly. Surely nobody else could be as incompetent as their previous intern, but that didn't stop the anxiety at this remotest of possibilities.
He glanced at the clock, then towards Janice.
"Do you think this one will be able to keep his pants on in court?"
