As a child and teenager, Ferris had consumed printed media at a truly astonishing rate. While well off, his mother had spent a great deal of money on his education and Ferris felt that burdening her overmuch with his wants was inconsiderate, becoming an enthusiastic patron of the public libraries. And one of the things he'd checked out grocery-bags-full at a time had been comic books. He'd made a note of comics he'd checked out that he might want to buy later on in life, and now that he was back in the States with disposable income, he figured the time had come. In Europe, American comics had been as expensive as they'd been rare, and for a guy on a bike, toting around a growing collection of comics wasn't an option (and mailing back even ten comics at a time for his grandmother to store had been even pricier). So it was with a great deal of glee that he found a comic book store reasonably close to a busline and made his first pull list.
In the short month he'd been home he'd accrued seven short boxes full (including the three from his grandma's house) of back issues and half a shelf of graphic novels and collected volumes. And maybe an action figure or two, but the Halo chief was totally guarding his plant and the New 52 Flash on his chest of drawers was decor.
Happily, one of his days off was Wednesday, aka New Comics Day (Unless Monday or Tuesday Was A Holiday). The weather was super (it was a fifteen minute walk from the bus stop to the store) and the newest issue of Hawkeye was in. Bro!
"Pizza Dog!" Ferris whisper-exclaimed. He'd always known that the star of Hawkeye wasn't the Avenger but the one-eyed, pizza-loving, ex-mafia mutt. The dog's name was Lucky, but... dude, he was even called Pizza Dog in the blurbs. He was Pizza Dog. Or... maybe Pizza Dog was his secret ID like Hawkeye was for Clint. The idea of a labrador with his own secret identity was so incredibly cool that Ferris had to stand back to savor it. And Ferris was totally buying two copies of the Pizza Dog issue.
Comics bought and loaded into backpack, he went to peruse the limited but still impressive selection of action figures. The Arkham City Nightwing was very tempting.
