((OOC: This takes place on the night of Friday, April 13, the day after Josh’s actual birthday.))
Josh had turned fifty-two; that, in and of itself, was an event, since birthdays always were for Josh, and Sean tried to go all out for the other man. It was the first birthday that they were celebrating together as a couple, which made it all the more special. The telepath wanted to do something particularly memorable for his partner, because he could, and because they would have all night to reap the benefits of a day well-spent.
Thursday, the actual day of Josh’s birthday, had been a little more low-key; Sean had cooked enchiladas and other Mexican dishes, since he knew that Josh enjoyed them. He had also stopped off at Burger King, like last year, to pick up a crown for his partner to wear.
That had, of course, all been a placeholder for the real birthday celebration; on a Friday night, there were so many options, even in Pilot Ridge. After all, they had Burlington, and if they wanted to go all out, Boston. Moreover, Sean had an advantage because, while he could read Josh’s mind, the reserve wasn’t true; that had allowed him to plan in peace.
When Josh had returned home from work, the telepath had greeted him with a smile, an embrace, and a warning that he had fifteen minutes to change into comfortable clothing because they were going out. While the attorney changed, Sean had donned his leather jacket as a favor to his partner, and he had grabbed his wallet, his cell phone, and his car keys.
When Josh had come downstairs, changed into more appropriate clothing, Sean had greeted him with a blindfold, and a promise that Josh could choose the music for the car ride.
The telepath had taken particular care in guiding his now blindfolded partner down the front steps and into the car; he had buckled his partner in, made sure that he had all of the arrangements, and then they were off.
Sean assumed that the length of the car ride, and then the music when they arrived, would give away their destination, but that was fine; this was all good-natured fun. He helped his partner into the establishment and then into the booth in the corner that he had reserved. Once Josh was settled in, Sean pulled off the blindfold, leaned in to press a kiss to his partner’s lips, and then said, “Happy Birthday!”
The club in Burlington had seemed an excellent choice when deciding where to spend Josh’s birthday night. He hoped his partner agreed.
