When Numbers Get Serious (Josh)

Sean nodded in affirmation, because he was quite sure. The telepath didn’t hold to the same conventions regarding birthdays as many people, certain not in relation to his own birthday. While he might make pull out all of the stops for Josh’s birthday, he did so because his partner enjoyed parties and being the center of attention. For himself, Sean was happy to have a more sedate day, and a cake baked by Josh certainly fit the bill. Having a store-bought cake fit the bill. “Besides,” he reminded the attorney, “you know I like baking with you. Frosting the cake together could be fun.”

It had been his suggestion to bake cakes together for Halloween. And, if the frosting got a little out of hand, then he could most certainly enjoy his birthday. He smiled to himself at the thought of frosting on Josh’s lips.

Sean hadn’t intended to confuse his partner with his remark, but he did think they needed to temper their conversation, given that they were in public. He still wanted to adopt, and he was happy to have this conversation at home when they were both sober. Also, when they weren’t focused on Josh’s birthday, since he didn’t want to switch focus to him tonight.

However, now his partner was shoveling brownie sundae into his mouth like a steam shovel, and the telepath shook his head to himself. After a couple of sips of his mudslide, he resumed eating his cake, until he had polished it off.
