((Backdated to Saturday, June 16th))
Every year the LGBT Center just outside of Pilot Ridge held a prom for the youth who used the facilities. It was held before graduation so as to offer an alternative to the proms held by the local high schools, as many of them were not necessarily safe spaces for young people under the QUILTBAG umbrella.
Every year, Sean Neville and Benjamin Rhodes, along with several other volunteers, plotted and planned snacks and decorations and themes.
This year was no different.
Last year's theme had been, according to Sean, Angels and Demons. This years was Under the Sea, complete with streamers floating from the ceiling in varying colors of blues and greens, and slightly crinkled paper murals along the wall to make it look as if they were under the ocean.
The DJ, however, was playing songs without an aquatic theme.
You couldn't have everything.
Although Josh had been a resident of Pilot Ridge for two years now, this was the first year he had chaperoned. Last year there had been drama, and the year before he had only just moved, and so this was the first year that chaperoning had been a viable option.
He was surprised by how many people were in attendance, though heartened, as well; it was nice to have proof that so many young people felt comfortable enough with themselves to come out; he wouldn't have, at their age. And the chaperons, as well, warmed his heart, helping the local youth with such fervor.
He was quite pleased, even if there wasn't alcohol available. A pity, but then again, alcohol tended to bring out his naughty side, and they were supposed to be good examples for the students.
"Is it unethical if you tell me if any of these kids are yours?" He whispered to Sean. By which he meant, did any of them attend Hammel.
