Flowers and Cards: Hurricane Eye (Josh)

The telepath was aware of the fact that his friend wasn’t enthusiastic about having to wait until Wednesday to check on him, but there was nothing that could be done. He had obligations to the students, to the other faculty, to Claude, to Hammel, and he couldn’t shirk them. Not in the aftermath of this; not when this was his responsibility. And while he dearly wanted to explain all of this to Josh, he knew he couldn’t; he didn’t want his friend to worry further. Still, he wanted to placate the other man – in a more effective way than promising to have Vincent drive him home –and thus he offered, “We could have supper Monday night if you wanted to come over.”

Sean nodded in agreement; they had effectively settled the matter of dessert for their lunch date later in the week, and that was fine with him. Regarding the question, he gave a small shrug of his shoulders. “It doesn’t matter to me. Whatever is easier for you to get.” Since Josh would be charged with the task of procuring them, he could make the decision. Sean ate both types happily.

The footsteps stopped outside the door, and a moment later the door opened. Ethan Wechsler stood there with an uneasy smile on his lips, and appearing otherwise exhausted. It had been a long day in the ER for him, because of the group with which Sean had been a part. He immediately took in the coffee cups and doughnut box and admonished, “You really shouldn’t be eating that.”

The telepath turned to greet the younger man and ushered him further into the room. “I needed the glucose boost. And I’m feeling much better now. Any chance you can unhook me?” He gestured at the heart monitor and the IV drip, neither of which were necessary at this point.
